Like Sallie laptop problems, just read this , so very sorry to lose our dear friend Huia,
I shall miss her postings and all the lovely photos , condolences to her family

I haven't been on GR a while ( problems with my laptop ) so was shocked and saddened to read the news that we have lost another lovely friend. Huia will be greatly missed by all of us on here. Condolences to her son, daughter and all her family.

There will be a celebration of Huia's life on 11th January, 2017 (her birthday) at 11 am. I worked it out to be 10 pm on 10th January, for we friends in the UK. Maybe someone in Papakura can print out the messages left on this thread and read some out, there will be an open floor for folk to share their memories and tributes to Huia.

Huia's daughter has said on fb how comforting she's found all these messages, showing how loved and respected Huia is. The obituary says that Huia died last Saturday 10th

I feel bad that I neglected Huia a bit of late, but she knew she was in my thoughts. I sent her Christmas card off over a week ago, wonder if it arrived in time?

Huia's son Peter has written on fb that altho Huia was alone when she died, he thinks it must have been very sudden as she didn't activate her alarm which she carried/wore. He praises her determination to cope and live as full and active life as possible without having to face downsizing nearer the town which Huia wasn't looking forward to doing.

A sad task for the family to deal with now, with all the family tree info, and those wonderful photographs to sort out and save.

Huia lived life to the full, and has left a multitude of friends as well as her family, to miss her and never forget her.

Having met up with Huia a couple of times, I can tell you all she was as delightful in real life as she was on the threads on GR. We originally met up to discuss Genealogy and she was most amusing. The second time we met up was to go shopping for our Liz for her birthday as Joyce (Dutch) has reminded me that Liz's birthday was coming up. We had a delightful morning shopping around.

Apart from this Huia's knowledge of her local area knew no bounds she would put up photo after photo of the history of the area and she also had a blog about it. The area where she and Phil built their lovely home was not that far from where some of my family history in NZ began and we were able to share this information.

I had always thought we would meet up again and I would pop up from where we are living now or she could come down to me but that was not to be.

It is so very sad and her fellow hospice workers and all of those that knew her in Papakura and surrounds will really miss her.

Oh my.!!
It was only 11 days ago when Huia was so full of excitement at getting some family details.
