I have mixed feelings about the programme.

I found it interesting, although not one of the better ones.
My OH is from Belfast and knew too well about the problems with the religious divide.

Like Joan, I thought why didn't her cousin just tell her, as she obviously knew.
But don't forget that it also serves as advertising for Ancestry.

Von, I love 10 Puppies and Us .... I have that on the recording box ready to watch :-D

Joan, I found that irritating too lol. Also the lack of any mention of 'Dr' Gilmour's wife and children after his death. Having gone through bankruptcy and moving to Ongar, I felt they deserved at least an acknowledgement of what happened to them.

Von

Von Report 24 Aug 2017 21:57

Not the most interesting programme for me. Everything handed to her on a plate.
She made no attempt to do any research herself.
Can anyone remember his wife's name?

Von, I think it was Elizabeth, I paid a bit of attention when they mentioned him being in Liverpool because my friend's tree had Liverpool Gilmours. Elizabeth was from Bucks?

I, too, found it irritating when she ran her fingers along the line as she read. Very strange.

I wonder what happened to the women in the family because there was no mention of the Meredith nor the Gilmour wives. Again, very strange.

Surely the programmers could have found a few minutes for the women so we could get a more rounded picture. :-D

For me, this episode and Lulu's episode had a certain lacklustre about them.

Whole series is a bit bland really. Some of the stories are interesting but most is pretty much run of the mill stuff that all of us have found in our research.

Am in agreement with IGP nothing to keep me interested.

There was no mention either about the grandfather on her fathers side.

I fell asleep during the first part - enjoyed the 2nd part but found her irritating. She reminded me of the girl called Jasmin they killed off in Holby City.

Because of clashes of programmes I have only just seen this week's episode from the recording box.

Again, it was ok, but nothing that exciting about it.

The best part for me was seeing the lovely shot of the ponies with the old Carmarthen Jail in the background.
I was born in Carmarthen, grew up in a nearby village, and went to the Carmarthen Girls Grammar School.

Many a time I climbed Jail Hill from the train station:-D
I also remember being assisted down it, after a few too many in a Carmarthen pub, when I was 18 ;-) :-D

From the WDYTYA Forum

The next episode of Who Do You Think You Are?, starring Noel Clarke, is showing on BBC One at 8pm on Thursday 31 August.

Noel, a Doctor Who star and acclaimed filmmaker, goes to Trinidad to find out more about his family history. From there he travels across the Caribbean and traces the story of his family back to times of slavery.

Nudge up from the WDYTYA Forum

The next episode of Who Do You Think You Are?, starring EastEnders actress Lisa Hammond, is showing at 8pm on Thursday 7 September on BBC One.

Lisa starts by trying to discover why her paternal grandfather, Harry Hammond, never spoke about his experiences during the Second World War. On her mother's side, she's always thought of herself as a Londoner through and through, so she's surprised when she uncovers roots in rural Wales.

I enjoyed the one tonight
Don't watch EastEnders so not heard of Lisa Hammond but she was very natural and interested in all the research that was done for her

I have just watched last weeks offering, i.e. Noel Clarke. he was not well known to me, but have probably seen him in something on the telly.

Found it interesting. Loved seeing the different islands in the B.W.I (British west Indies) as they were called, as Noel followed his ancestry through the generations.

He ended up in the birth place of his 4x greatgrandfather, (born c1821) on an island, he and I had never heard of.

Noel was an only child, hardly knew his father, and had seen his paternal grandmother rarely.

The island bought very mixed news, from finding out that his gggggrandfather, Glasgow was born into slavery, (I wonder how I would have felt if I had got the same news about one of my ancestors) to then finding out that Glasgow became free, (when all slaves were freed), and then became a landowner.

Noel even got to meet loads of cousins, and saw the impressive grave of the aforesaid ancestor.

It bought home to me how close the time (and the fact ) of slavery. Hope that he stays in touch with his new found family.
