Can any one help me trace Amelia Winter nee Hawkins. She married Absolom Mid? Winter..... 21st Octber 1861 at Alverstoke Hampshire. They then disapear off the face of the earth. I think HE may have been navy or army and they have gone abroad ! Can anyone discover WHO her parents were? and if they did go abroad.

I found this marraige on IGI. Basically I am trying to follow the family of William and Ann Hawkins who appear to come from Wickham Hampshire. But they disapear from there by 1851 census. Could be they moved to Alverstoke.

Hi All,
This looks like the Hawkins family I'm looking for. Theres another sister Harriet Hawkins b. 1835 Wickham who married at Alverstkoke 26th June 1859 to Emaual Shepard. I am trying to trace what happened to the family.... brothers and sisters of my gr gr gran Frances Hawkins from 1841. I thought if I could find her brothers and sisters I could find her in 1851 1861.

On the 61 census Absalom & Amelia are living next door to the Hawkins family. Parents William & Ann with children George 22, Frances 20, James 17, Charles 15, Thomas 12 and John 9.
(I changed the spelling of Frances, it was Francis but daughter.)

Just noticed you say that Absalom & Amelia married in 1861 but on the 61 census they have 2 children Amelia 3 and George 4 months.

I either took the date down wrong or IGI have it wrong.....but not to worry got there in the end. Yes it look as if Amelia is living next door to her parents, and my gr gr gran Frances is there. I grateful for your help.

Yes looks like the older William and Ann might be the grandparents of Amelia.

Hi Mary,
Thats interesting about Amelia (grandaughter) Midwinter with grandparents. May be why her parents went to Alverstoke to marry. There were other members of my family from Wickham getting married at Alverstoke and they had children already..........maybe the vicar at Wickham did not hold with marrying people who had children before they married.
