It will help when helping a newbie, but how long you have been a member is rubbish really.

I have just mentioned this on another thread that although I have been a member since 2007 which meant I just added my name. I did not use these boards until jan 2010 when I decided to do my tree

you and Jax have both been busy!

Jax, yes I guess so, I actually joined in 2005 but it shows 2006, not to worry.

It must be me, it's a bit harder to find things (of course it may just be too eraly in the morning and Sylvia I think I have caught your horrible cold so feeling a bit like death warmed up!)

Now am I being mean?

I made my tree private on anc*stry a little while ago its not huge just 300 but accurate (I think)
I have just had a message from someone who shares the same gt gt gt grandfather. He has'nt asked to see it but want to know how we are related which I will tell him...but if he asks should I share when his tree is public , so any Tom Dick or Harry will then copy which then defeats the object of it being private.

Jax, maybe only send him info he needs and explain that you have sensitive information on it that you don't want shown on the internet which is perfectly reasonable. :-)

My tree is private on ancestry ....... I do not open it to anyone these days.

What I do is type up the branch that is the mutual one, giving all the information that I have



BUT ........... I think that you can invite someone to see a Private tree as a guest.


I can see someone else's tree that she has as Private.


Not sure how to do it

click on Family Trees, Click on Help

enter "inviting people to view tree" in the Keyword or Phrase Seach Box (upper right)


It should be the first answer that shows.
