Hi Dea,

I would love to come have lunch with you all - just havent the time! When I get my desk top computer back [and am off this slower than a snail laptop] maybe I will take you up on your kind offer and come to breakfast! They do indeed sound yummy!

Is anyone into computers? and could tell me why my laptop is SO slow?? [will ask the chap who is fixing my desk top to have a look for me]

Lainie,

There are many reasons why some computers are slower/faster than others. The first and most obvious being the computers processor which can vary in speed to one another. Another is the amount of RAM that is installed, generally speaking the more your computer has the better will be the computers ability to handle the processors output.

Another consideration is whether the computer is "Choked" by having to deal with the detritus left behind by earlier installation or partial removal of programs or "Cookies" left behind when visiting websites. Finally the computers ability to connect to the internet via your router whether by direct connection or wireless connection (Download speed).

So much for the possible problems so what are the solutions?

Getting rid of detritus: Run a program such as "CCleaner", (Available free, just Google) to remove unwanted cookies and clean up your hard drive.

Defrag the hard drive: If you are using Windows as your operating system then you will find this by clicking "Control Panel" - "Accessories" - "System Tools" - "Defrag".

Hopefully you may find some improvement in the speed of your laptop after doing the above.

Finally check your download speed by going to www.speedtest.net and running a free test. Once your desktop is returned run the speed test on that as well and compare the results.

Good luck.

Just to add to Mr Jones advice. Anti virus can slow down your pc and never run two at the same time....they like to fight!

All else fails, save your data to an external HD and wipe your laptop....you may have some trojan that your anti virus is not picking up. But you would have to be very careful not to re load the trojan!

Make sure you have a disk or access online to reinstall the operating system before you do the above ;-)

Now we're a 'teckie' thread - is there no end to our talents? :-D

Wonder how Fans is getting on? Bet she's worn out - poor old dear.

Sat for ages with a bank advisor this morning whilst she tried to help me solve my problem with my ISP. She was really helpful and as bamboozled as I am.

Apart from that, just an ordinary Monday - I LOVE ordinary <3

Hi all!!!

Hope you are ALL doing fine??

Cynthia - yes, I love NORMAL and ORDINARY too - cant beat it!!

Dea - hope your 'little one' went on OK at school today?

Jonesey and Ginns - I have done all of that and am still awaiting to see if it all works!!! I may have to restart the computer for it all to take effect. Thank you for your help!

Ginns - I learnt the hard way with saving stuff - when my computer crashed I had not updated my family tree or printed/saved photos that I wanted. The chap who is fixing it has been asked to see if he can save my tree and my photos!! I will be devastated if he cannot save both or either! I want to kick myself for not saving them - I have a storage pen and everything - but was just too idle and trusting in the computer to do it. Over the past couple of months I even planned to print off my tree and photos - but didnt!!! Let my mistakes be a lesson for all of you!

Thanks Lainie but it was not 'my' little one who started school today but Fans's 'little one'.

Hope it went well for him !

OOOhhhh Ginns - I have one of those but I never use it though! - I think I did once when we first got it and I keep meaning to do it again but never get around to it !

It's a bit like my car - It has 5 gears but I only ever use 4 - there were only 4 when I learned to drive so I don't need the other one :-D :-D :-D

This site is running very slow tonight.

Mr H was left at school screaming and kicking a teacher at 9 am sharp by a NASTY NANNY... :-D

Picked up by Daddy and twins and taken to the park and then had a tantrum with Daddy cos he couldnt go BACK TO SCHOOL....Phew...He loves it....Yippeeeeeeeee......

All his sisters and parents gone home at last..Nanny kicked em out at 5pm cos she couldnt take anymore noise and mess.....

We waved em off very happily all 3 of us and went in for a rest in the peace and quiet.... :-D

Will have 6whole hours to catch up on here tomorrow...Ooops no I wont as his sisters and parents have eaten us out of house and home so off to the Co-op first thing....

Bed,night~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Ginny - Re your avatar - you have changed at least one of the words.

Why was that?

Was it rude?

If not, what was it??? - My eyes cannot be sure of what it says ;-)

Oh my goodness Ginns !! - I didn't realise that !

My car is about 22 years old now but 'goes like a 5 year old' !!!

Hubby's car is automatic so I did not realise they had SO many gears now!!!

Anyway, they would be wasted on me as I only need 4 :-D :-D :-D
