On the original image of the 1911 for Frank Snr, it has....

Industry or Service with which worker is connected.
Manager - Bioscope Trade.

I thought you might be interested in this....

A Bioscope show was a fairground attraction consisting of a travelling cinema. The heyday of the Bioscope was from the late 1890s until World War I.

Bioscope shows were fronted by the largest fairground organs[1], and these formed the entire public face of the show . A stage was usually in front of the organ, and dancing girls would entertain the crowds between film shows[2].

Films shown in the Bioscope were primitive, and the earliest of these were made by the showmen themselves. Later, films were commercially produced.

Bioscope shows were integrated, in Britain at least, into the Variety shows in the huge Music Halls which were built at the end of the nineteenth century.

After the Music Hall Strike of 1907 in London, bioscope operators set up a trade union to represent them. There were about seventy operators in London at this point.

Hello again,

I am now having trouble locating Clifford Kershaw. I unfortunately have no idea of his DOB or year of marriage. I do know that it would have been after 1911 as he is not mentioned in the census. I also know that Clifford and his wife (Edna i believe?) adopted a daugher.

Does anybody have any top tips for trying to find somebody when you have such limited information (as this is not the only person I need to find that i know about but have no information about!)?

many thanks
Tina

Is it possible that Clifford was actually his middle name?

After 1912 mother's maiden name is included in the GRO index.

You can look for free on this site:

http://www.freebmd.org.uk/

I looked for a Kershaw baby with a Lane mother, as I didn't find him with a Lane mother when I searched for Clifford Kershaw.

Hi again. Could anyone give me any tips as to how I can find someones marriage without sending for several certificates. I am looking for the marriage of Edith Kershaw who was born in Manchester South in 1908. She is the sister of Frank Weyton (1909), Edmund Clifford (1911) and Eric Gilbert (1914) Kershaw. Her mothers maiden name was Mary Lane. I believe she went to live in Scotland at some point but don't know if it was before or after her marriage (although would guess after). I have found 4 possible matches in either Manchester South or North but don't really want to send for all 4 certificates if possible. I don't even know if she had any family. Thank you.

If this is her birth you need to be looking for Edith E Kershaw in
the marriage listings. I have been through the Lancashire OPC
and can't find one listed for her there.

If applying to the Manchester office,...

You could order the marriage cert on condition it has the correct age (give or take a year or so) and father's name.

Hi are you sure Edith married?

there is a tree on ancestry which says she died in 2005, there is no spouse listed for her. It also has details for Edmund Clifford

Thanks Tempest. No! I'm not certain she married. Suppose I sort of took it for granted. Will take a look.
