Find Ancestors

My appologies if all this seems confusing!!

Ive come across a problem and I don't know how to go about finding the answer.
Apparantly my great grandfather Albert Edward Barringer had a son from a previous relationship/marriage from my great grandmother. The son was named Ernest Albert Edward Barringer and I have just received his birth certificate. The certificate gives his birth date as being 02 December 1901, his father is Albert Edward Barringer, as I thought, and his mother Rebecca Elizabeth Barringer, formerly Bridge. However I can not find any marriage for Albert and Rebecca. I have found a marriage record for Albert Edward Barringer and a Georgina Butt in 1898 Woolwich, Kent. I have seen the marriage banns record on ancestry and it gives Albert's father as being John Barringer, which is the same name as my great great grandfather. So part of me thinks that is the right one, but the name doesn't match. I have also found a death record for a Rebecca Bridge in September 1903.

I am also struggling to find a marriage between Albert Edward Barringer to my great grandmother Annie Elizabeth Dean. Their first child together was Alfred LG Barringer who only lived for a short time. He was born in June 1911 so I am presuming that they married prior to that year, but maybe after 1903.

Any suggestions on how I go about finding the answers??

Sorry, I thought I had included that info. Ernest was born in Woolwich. Albert was also born in Woolwich, but died in Kent, so I am prsuming that his marriage would have taken place in the Kent area.

Albert's parents were John and Eliza Barringer nee Dean. Albert's second wife, my great grandmother, was also his cousin. Albert's mother was the sister of Annie's father!

Perhaps they never married

Edit: three Barringer-Greenfield children born Dover area in 1930s. Won't list them in public forum as they may still be living, but they can easily be found on Free BMD.

Thank you Kucinta, I didn't have knowledge of Earnest's death but I did know about his baptism and marriage details.
I am more interested in the marriage/s of his father, Albert Edward Barringer to Rebecca Elizabeth Bridge and Annie Elizabeth Dean.

Is there anyone else who might be able to help me out with this conundrum??

I am especially interested in finding out if my great grandparents actually married or not. Taking Ernest Albert Edward out of the equation, Albert and Annie had 6 or 7 children. Annie went by the name Barringer, but I have not been lucky in finding a marriage record for them. It maybe that I have been looking so hard and just missed it??

It looks very much as if having married Georgina he the wasnt free to remarry . they have registered Ernest as if they were married but then Rebecca died in 1903. He was still separated from Georgina so couldn't marry Annie but they set up home together as a married couple,
There is only the one marriage record for him which is to Georgina Butt
Divorce wasnt an option at that time and many did go on to make bigamous marriages .at least he didnt do that!.

I am inclined to agree with Shirley,

I have had a good look around and that seems the only explanation.

I have also compared Alberts signature from the marriage cert to that on the 1911 and they DO look very similar.

I am sure it must be the same one - We need to find out what happened to Georgina?

cant see him and Gerogina on the 1901 census .wonder if she decided to go bake to her maiden name and remarry.
