	Karen, Is that marriage a submitted entry on the IGI? Submitted entries are not always reliable - you need to check them against parish records. There is a marriage for a William Gracie to a Betty in New Abbey in 1788 but not to a Betty Patterson and the marriage was on 1/9/1788 - if you look at the image, it will probably show a whole page of marriages and you should be able to see all the marriages for that year. Edit: just double checked that marriage on scotlandspeople and it is for William Gracie and Betty Paterson (I spelt it Patterson yesterday!)
