Quite likely his birth wasn't registered....no penalties until 1875 for not doing so. |

Presumably, the father's name came from Arthur's marriage cert......what was John's occupation? Or was he deceased? |

The only 3 Arthur Percivals I can find on the 1911 don't seem to match. I was going to look and see if Arthur might have had a second name or initial. |

The other Arthur you keep returning to is on 1911 with birth year 1870 and he had been married to Mary Jane for 15 years. From the info provided by Choccy, your Arthur married Charlotte Maria Bishop. So if you think this might be your Arthur you need to see if you can prove he had two wives ie when did Mary Jane die and he remarry. |

His pension records confirm he was in Devon in 1891; |

Possibly his Father was also in the army and Arthur was abroad with his parents in 1871 and 1881. One of Arthur's children was born in South Africa so this is quite likely to have happened. |

Hi Guys, yep the Arthur i'm after is Arthur P Percival but still can't find a birth record for him. The 24 Angel Street is in Manchester as the above census with all the people on it, but he's not listed there. My husband said i really need to go to a Manchester Library and look up Angel Street as there were probably more than one! Ta Emma |

Hi Cathy, |

This is a possible death for John given that he was living at 24 Angel Street in 1888 but wasn't there in the 1891 Census and was deceased by 1897. |
