JOHN ARTHUR HUDSON AND ELIZA HUDSON SIBLINGS DISAPPEARED WITHOUT A TRACE ROUNDABOUT 1885 JUST AFTER THEIR MOTHER ELLEN DIED. ELLEN WAS MARRIED TO JOHN MIRFIN AT THE TIME OF HER DEATH. JOHN AND ELIZA HAD DIFFERENT FATHERS. ELIZA'S WAS SAMUEL HUDSON AND JOHN'S WAS UNKNOWN. ELLEN HAD A SISTER, EMMA, WHO MARRIED A CHARLES ELIJAH HOLBREY OR HOLBERY, THEY HAD CHILDREN ANNIE, HARRY AND ELLEN. HARRY WAS STILL LIVING AT ECCLESALL BIERLOW IN 1991 AND WAS 17 YEARS OLD. ANY NEWS OF HIM WOULD BE GRATEFULLY RECEIVED. ANNIE WOULD HAVE BEEN 26 AT THAT TIME AND ELLEN JUST 13 YEARS OLD. WE ARE STUCK IN THE MUD RIGHT NOW SO DO HOPE SOMEONE KNOWS SOMETHING. |

This looks to be the marriage of Ellen Hudson to John Mirfin |

This isn't making any sense! If she was Ellen's sister how could she be called Hudson? |

So Samuel died in 1872 which is why he is Eliza's father but not John Arthur's |

Wow. I am overwhelmed by all you kind people helping to throw some light on the Hudsons. Many many thanks for all your efforts. The history as we know it so far starts with John Arthur's Mother Ellen. Her Father was Abraham Hudson, her Mother was Ann. Ellen had 5 sisters, Elizabeth, Ann, Jane, Caroline and Emma. Ellen married Samuel Hudson (same surname as herself) and they had a daughter Eliza born 1866. Samuel died 1872 and in 1875 Ellen gave birth to John Arthur. No Father listed on the birth certificate. Ellen married John Mirfin and they had a daughter, Mary, in 1879. Ellen died December 1884 and John Mirfin married again and moved away only taking little Mary . John Arthur and Eliza were not with him and his new family in 1891 Census. Eliza disappeared completely and John Arthur turns up as Maurice A Mirfin married to Elizabeth Spencer in 1898. But he cannot be found during the years 1885 to 1898. We are pretty sure Emma, his youngest aunt, married Charles Holbrey in 1868 but John Arthur was not with them in the 1891 Census. None of the other aunts can be traced. The missing years of John A could be crucial in tracking down who was his unknown Father. Sorry this has gone on a it but I thought it best to get it straight as far as we know after all your hard work for us.Thanks again. |

I guess just to say that if you knew John Arthur Hudson was in fact Maurice Arthur Mirfin it would have saved a good deal of time on my part at least ........... coming along after the work has been done and giving the information you have is not terribly helpful .......... |

chrissiex, I do apologise to you and all the other kind persons for not going into so much detail in my first request,, the family history is so tangled that it would have taken pages to list everything and we really needed information on John Arthur and Eliza from the time they went missing. John would not have been living with his suspected birth father as circumstances would not have permitted that .We have no proof but the details of his whereabouts during those missing years may provide some vital information. His stepfather John was previously married to a Sarah who died in July 1874 in Sheffield. We have the death certificate. . They were living at 38 Sarah Street, Sheffield at the time of her death and it is a coincidence that the name of the Street is the same as her name, hopefully it is not an error. Really sorry you have been put to any unnecessary trouble over this. |
