I have only looked at what scotlandspeople shows online as a parish record and there is only Catherine Brown`s fathers name not James`s father I dont know if I apply for the actual record if there would be anymore info than that as I am not used to scotlands records

Not all parish records give the names of the bride and groom's fathers - it varies from parish to parish. The actual image may not give you any more detail than you have.

Kirriemuir is closer to the parish of Eassie than Dundee.

There was also a James born in Parish of Eassie

JAMES HAY
Birth:
Christening:
02 FEB 1804 Eassie And Nevay, Angus, Scotland

Parents:
Father: JAMES HAY
Mother: JEAN OGELVY

Eringobragh1916

Eringobragh1916 Report 14 Aug 2011 11:52

The Hay's were in the "Eassie and Nevay" Parish Angus back in the 1600's

Margaret Hay spouse to John Nevay of that ilk, par. of Methie 13 Jan 1615

Eassie and Nevay is a parish, which lies in Angus Council Area, some 6 miles (10 km) southwest of Kirriemuir and 8 miles (13 km) southwest of Forfar in Angus.

It is located in the old county of Forfarshire, which disappeared following the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1974.

1804 may be at bit to early as his death says 43yrs old in 1851 I know that only goes on what the informant says but the 1841 census says 30 yrs in 1941 and I would imagine that James or Catherine would have given this age I also realise that some people didnt know how old they were This is fantastic info that everyone is giving me I would not have a clue where any of these places are as I am in Australia I am sure between us we can track down either the birth or the right parents for James

I thing that one of these marriages will probably be one I will need but with James being born early 1800s they may be grand parents of James but I am keeping this record I just cant be sure because I would be looking for repeating christian names

rootgatherer

rootgatherer Report 14 Aug 2011 12:14

Remember that ages were rounded down to multiples of 5 for the 1841 census. So someone whose age is given as 30 could be anywhere between 30 and 34 years of age.

Potty

Potty Report 14 Aug 2011 12:16

Ages on the 1841 were rounded down to the nearest 5, so he could have been anything from 30 to 35!

Have you looked at the actual image of his marriage on scotlandspeople? That is an image of the original parish record which you can download or print.

gypsydescendant

gypsydescendant Report 14 Aug 2011 12:20

Yes I have just had a look at the 1841 cesus record I have and all the adults are either 0 or 5 except for children there ages are listed 1 to 14 on the page I have does this mean that the adults may not have know there age?

Potty

Potty Report 14 Aug 2011 12:23

No, they may have known their ages, but the enumerators who filled out the sheets which we see, were instructed to round adults ages down to the nearest five. Most of them did, but some did not.

On his marriage cert. it should tell you (or usually does) which Parish both the bride and groom belonged to

Iam looking at the Scotlands people copy I downloaded so I dont know if I would get more info if I applied for the actual record but it says and I quote Anno 1830
June 5 James Hay Blacksmith and Catharine Brown daughter of the late John Brown Mason both in this Parish June 19
other people who married on this page have got written in this Parish or in the Parish of Longforfarshire or Parish of Dundee
