Hence the reason for the question marks.
You can never assume to pair names up.
Unfortunately in this case, wrong pairing.

Julia, Unfortunately this William didn't marry a Mary Ann please look at the top of this page.

Hi Mike,
Thank you very much, this is brilliant!
I am sure this will be the right marriage
eventhough no 'e' in Hierons.
Regards
Julia.

Hi,
Thank you for looking for the marriage MarieCeleste, it seems I will need to order certificates to maybe shed some light on this family.

Hi MarieCeleste,
Yes this is the death of William, Barker was his mother's maiden name.
No I have not reported the mistake in the census.
Regards,
Julia.

Have searched high and low and can't find a marriage record. Means one of two things:

- They never actually married. Surprising how many couples actually didn't bother back then. Always the possibility that one or the other was already married to someone else.

- His name on marriage has been terribly mis-transcribed by all sites

William's death was very recent before the 1901 so it's unlikely that Mary had remarried, definitely an error on the census:

England & Wales, FreeBMD Death Index: 1837-1915

Name: William Barker Hierons
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1849
Date of Registration: Jan-Feb-Mar 1901
Age at Death: 52
Registration district: Middlesbrough
Inferred County: Yorkshire North Riding
Volume: 9d

If Emily was born in Holy Port, it comes under Cookham.
Possibly she was illegitimate as not showing anywhere for Emily Hierons.

Fanny Hierons is showing for 1879.

Hi KathleenBell,
Yes I think this could be the birth of Rose(Rosina), thank you.
Hi MarieCeleste,
It looks like Mary re-married but I am not sure, someone else said it was a mistake? I will look for second marriage.
Thank you
Julia.

Have you found William on any census with Mary Ann?

Do you know what his occupation was, and when did he die?

Vera

Vera Report 26 Jul 2012 19:39

Holyport (pronounced Hollyport) is a village in the civil parish of Bray, about 2 miles south of Maidenhead in the English county of Berkshire.

Is Holy Port in Berkshire?

Julia

Julia Report 26 Jul 2012 19:34

Hi,
Yes the parents of William were William and Charlotte Barker.
There is confusion because Mary was wrongly listed on a census
as 'Bennett' but this was the next door neighbours Surname. This was when Mary lived at Ormesby or North Ormesby Middlesbrough. On a 1911 census Mary is living with her daughter Frances Rutherford, Mary is a Widow.
Regards
Julia.

MarieCeleste Report 26 Jul 2012 19:26

EDIT: - No, looking at the original it looks like they've copied her surname from the family above. Have reported error.
