I'm hoping someone out there will be able to help solve the mystery of Mary Ann Perkins, and her mother Ann. She is listed on the1851 census as the grandaughter of Mary Perkins widow, and in the household of Mary and her husband Richard in 1841. In both cases the place of residence is North Rauceby, Lincolnshire. I have traced her baptism in the PR's for North & South Rauceby on 13th May 1838 where she is described as the illegitimate daughter of Ann Perkins. Richard Perkins married Mary Bush at Rauceby in 1820, the marriage register gives both as single. They have children born and baptised in Rauceby, but no daughter Ann. The only daughter I can trace is Elizabeth, baptised at Rauceby in 1825. I am struggling to trace Ann and to trace Mary Ann beyond the 1851 census (her grandmother Mary died in 1854). I have come up blank on a birth registration for Mary Ann.
Can anyone help?

ErikaH Report 19 Feb 2019 21:35

Unlikely to have been registered in view of her illegitimacy.

Have you considered that Ann might have been a Bush at birth? Bearing in mind that the marriage of Richard and Mary wasn’t until 1820..............

Yes, that thought had crossed my mind, but the Rauceby PRs don't show any illegitimate Bush baptisms.

Maylon, I think you may have hit on something. Despite the fact that Richard Perkins is shown as single on his marriage to Mary Bush, there is a marriage of Richard Perkins and Elizabeth Silson at Rauceby in 1815. I'm about to search for a death for Elizabeth.

No burial for Elizabeth Perkins nee Silson at Rauceby and unfortunately looks like theOsbournby Burials Reg for 1813 onwards hasn't been scanned, or might even still be held in the parish.

Julie Report 19 Feb 2019 22:29

Louth is quite some distance from Scott Willoughby and North Rauceby, so I don't think it ties in.

I'm on the track of Ann, she married John Booth at Waddington in 1841, the couple are at Waddington on the 1851 and 1861 census data. Birth place ties up.

rootgatherer Report 19 Feb 2019 22:43

If it's any help, Edward Coddington was a witness to both the Richard Perkins marriages. It's not unusual for a widower to state "single" at a second marriage. It would depend on how the question was worded.

could be elizabeth died there

Julie

Julie Report 19 Feb 2019 23:19

I believe I have traced Ann Perkins through to her death. The main piece of the puzzle remaining for Ann is the death of her mother Elizabeth. I suspect her burial is at Osbournby, my next step is I think to see where the burials reg is for that parish is. I know that the Lincoln Archives have not scanned PR's that have been lodged with them in recent years.

I'm signing off for the night now, but can anyone shed any light on what happened to Mary Ann after the 1851 census?

Many thanks for your help so far.

You say Ann married John Booth.

A tree on Ancestry (tree owner: Sharon Hansen ) has a Mary Ann Booth, born 1838 North Rauceby, unknown parents. Married John Oldfield.

I don't know where the tree owner got the name Booth from - proof of her existence is only from censuses after her marriage.

I don't see an Oldfield/Booth marriage.
