of Scarborough he was a fisherman in 1896 but do not know his born in 1874 he is on the 1881 census but he seems to disappear James Jowsey is on my granmothers wedding cert dated 1913 her name was Georgiena Jowsey (18) and she married Ernest Fenwick but she seems to have been in a orphanage in 1901 census bit of a puzzle really - can not find a death cert? thank you

There is this birth Births Mar 1874 (>99%) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jowsey James Scarbro' 9d 344 You say you know nothing about him, but where did you get the information that you do have i.e. 1896 fisherman scarbro'

you have your G/mothers marriage cert - her birth cert would give you the full names of both her paretns. Knowing this means you can find their Marriage. This marriage cert would then give you his fathers name and then finding the right family on the census would be easier as any information found wont be based on 'guess' work....Do you know who he married ? Maybe ? found all about his dad James Jowsey 1828 - 1906 but still nothing about my great grandad borne in 1874 nothing on any census aafter 1881

Thank you Sylvia this must be him all the different spellings Argh!!! Towsey Jowsery!! no wonder I couldn't find him - stil can't find any record of him marrying and having 2 daughters which I know he had -Well his name is on the wedding cert of my Granny Georgiena but at 1901 she was in a childrens home with her sister Martha. but no record of a mother (i have applied for her birth cert) or a wedding to James - thank you for your great help - good detective work :o)

Lyn .... you're welcome! I have fond memories of Scarborough ...... most of my childhood holidays from about 1946 through the 50s were spent there, and my family's connection goes back to my grandparents holidaying there in the 1920s. Quite a trip for them from Oldham in Lancashire!
