AHA - it was the father who was the shoemaker born in Wiltshire!!
Looks more like Swindon to me though.

when looked him up there was two entries for that name,but was the same family very miss leading.

I would still say the original looks more like Swindon.

He was an apprentice to Elias Ford Hutchings who was a Boot Manufacturer.

You're right Andrew - there were two Thomas Tucks registered a year apart in the same registration district.

Your best bet would probably be to get the marriage certificate for Thomas Tuck (the shoemaker) to get his father's name

possible as in one of the census records birth place is given as Swindon.............but as Ninjalady says you will need the marriage cert. to confirm!

These two were in the same registration district - Cricklade covers Swindon/Wootton Bassett, so the earlier IGI entry found by Catherine may well be linked into the family somehow.

Interestingly, the household on either side of this has a bootmaker living in it, so perhaps Thomas could have got his 'foot in the door' (pardon the pun) to the trade from there. Or perhaps his deceased father was also a bootmaker.

There is this death registered in the Highworth registration district - same district as the 1861 census posted by Catherine - for a Thomas Tuck, so possibly the child of Isaac and Jane died??

There is also a tree on Ancestry that gives a Thomas Tuck, marrying a Margaret A ? and living in Bedwellty - mother Elizabeth Maskelyne but no father given.

Either one of these 1861's could be a possible so I really think the marriage certificate is necessary to be 100% sure.
