Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 13 May 2025 20:00

Just washing up at the sink and watching the deer up the garden when something caught my eye. It was a fox on the west lawn so I went out the front door and mad a noise and it ran away but so did the deer.

Good morning all. 8 degrees this morning and still sunny. I have an opticians appointment at 11.15 so am pleased that it is not raining as Cynth is out today so I would get wet walking. going to be a hot walk I think.

Morning AnnG and All,

Sunny and hotter today here I think. My car issue is getting more complicated and the garage wasn't happy as they have now been told differently that the part for my car that they were told would be delivered yesterday will now have to come from France! They are going to wedge the window so it won't fall down so I can use it in the meantime and I can collect it at 10.00am. I'd better get ready now. Good luck with your eye appointment AnnG.

Sorry Mel I was out at the opticians so couldn't let anyone know. You should be able to get on here on your tablet which you seem to have done. Not sure why you can't get on on your main PC though.

I had a problem again this morning before 0730 getting on here.

Mel voicemailed me as I was driving to the hairdresser and it's double yellow lines so I couldn't stop and I thought OH must have a problem and need me home so I daren't drive into the hairdresser's carpark and waste time as you have to park and go inside the gym to get a code to get out again. I managed to park further on in the cafe carpark, saw it was Mel and she just wanted me to let you know she has no internet and said an engineer was coming on Monday. I couldn't post till I just got home as I don't use GR on my mobile and didn't know the password. It looks like she has been in contact on a tablet though.

I was in the opticians an hour. I was quite impressed as, as well as the lady on reception, he now employs a young man who is obviously IT trained as everything is now computerised. All seems very efficient. . very little change Just a very small increase in close up to be able (I hope) to read very small writing. Needed glasses though as mine are 3 years old and also needed new ones for the computer. It will be at least three weeks wait now. the ones that suited me best were very light stainless steel frames with a blue trim.
:-D I told my sister that the frames were very light. Ahe asked me what I meant by light so I said 'not heavy'. seemed to satisfy her. She is inclined to be picky over what people say on facebook.

Annx Report 14 May 2025 14:41

That's good there was little change with your eyes AnnG and your new glasses sound nice. It seems like the new young man may have got them up to date with the IT.

I had good intentions of popping to a garden centre this afternoon to get some plants for some more of my pots, but since lunch I feel more like a nap which is something I never do in the day! I'll pay a bill and do some admin for a while and see whether I go then.

I have sent out some photos of roses in the garden this morning. It seems that Jake's style of pruning has paid off!!!, that combined with the weather I guess.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 14 May 2025 14:58

It is 21 degrees here at the moment, much too hot in the garden to do anything out there.

Annx Report 14 May 2025 15:08

The roses are beautiful AnnG and look so healthy as I said in my reply.. Yes it's too hot for gardening here too.

Evening all,

We went shopping today as there were things we had run out of mostly salad and fruit ,we called at tescos for petrol and a bit of shopping then on to Aldi for a bigger shop ,then Roys for more compost and a couple of new pots , I needed to repot a couple of Hostas into bigger pots .

Ann thats annoying having to wait for the part for the car window but at least you have the car until it comes ,did they know how long it was going to take to come .

Looks like Mel managed to post using the tablet earlier , not to long for her to wait to get the problem sorted .

Anng your Roses are pretty ,mine have plenty of buds and I can just see a little colour on one or two buds but none in full flower like yours .

Very hope you had a better night's sleep and feel more with it today .

I forgot to say yesterday we called in the butchers and Jake actually served me first time I've seen him serving in the shop even though hes been serving for months .
Its his birthday next week ,I think he's twenty but I must check the years go so quickly .

What a nuisance about your car Annx. At least the garage have done a temporary fix on the window. Thanks for letting us know the situation with Mel. I am a bit confused how she managed to get on Genes on her tablet if she hasn’t got any internet but I expect there’s a simple explanation.

Yes, AnnG’s roses are lovely aren’t they? It’s good that there is not much change to your eyes and I like the sound of your “light” glasses.

I got a bit of sleep last night so I am feeling quite a lot better today - not 100% yet but getting there. OH had his post op check up this morning and they seem pleased with him and are going to do his other eye on 24th. I wish I had the option of going to this private clinic as an NHS patient for my cataracts. The whole atmosphere is so pleasant and calm but unfortunately I am booked on the hospital waiting list.

When we left the clinic we went to Dunelm which is nearby and looked for some bits and pieces but didn’t get much. We did buy a largish black plastic bin with a lid to replace a bin in use in the garage which OH managed to break. Don’t ask how!!! While he was paying I wandered to the end of the store where there was a book shelf. You could take a book and just put a donation in an AgeUK box. I got OH a good hardback that looked new so put a reasonable donation in the box. While waiting for OH I saw someone take a book and just walk away. I think that’s mean. I know some people don’t have much spare cash but most people can find just a few pennies. While we were in Dunelm I thought of Mandy as I walked past a shelf of pretty balls of wool. I bet she would have bought a couple.

As Dobbies garden centre was on our route we had planned to stop there next but Mr Forgetful drove straight past so we just carried on to Tesco, also on our route home. Here we bought OH a shirt. So he arrived home with a new bin, a new shirt and a book and I arrived home with…..nothing. It’s the story of my life, lol.

OH has a cupboard full of short sleeved shirts, polo shirts and Ts but has decided he now wants to wear long sleeves all the time. He has plenty of thick winter weight shirts so we sorted through his thinner, cotton shirts. Charity shop is getting 6, we’re keeping 2 white and a very expensive blue but they are wedding and funeral shirts, so he was left with 4. I’ve said he needs at least 8 or 9 as I am not washing and ironing more than once a week, hence the shirt from Tesco. In the next day or two we’ll go in to the only men’s shop in town which is expensive but their clothes are good quality and the staff are so helpful that it’s worth the extra cost. Once he’s kitted out with shirts, I’m going to make an onslaught on his trousers.

I’ve been cooking dinner while typing this post and it’s about ready so I had better dish up. Sleep well tonight everyone.

I still haven't managed to repot my Hostas Mandy as they are in so tight. I think I have an old carving knife in the garage somewhere that I used to trim the lawn edges next to the concrete path at my old house that might cut through the roots once they die down in the autumn. You managed to have a good shop today and it must have been strange being served by Jake. I can't believe he's going to be 20 now! How are his driving lessons and that written test going now? Chelsea must be a young lady now too. I was shocked to see how much the younger 'Owens' had grown on the TV prog. Young Violet already aged 14 and baking for the family.

I was so keen to not be late getting to the hairdresser I forgot to ask how long it would take for the car part to come. Steve probably didn't like to say in case he let me down if he was wrong! At least it shouldn't take long to do, but of course they will have to strip the door down again now. They've said not to slam the door, so I've told OH (the door slammer!) and he laughed and says he's not even getting in the car till it's fixed unless he has to! lol. :-D I'm being careful about potholes and road humps too.

The Buzzard has been back with it's mate today and flying very close to the tree where the Magpie nest is several times. It seems to be watching and waiting, poor things.

Annx Report 14 May 2025 19:09

Yes I was a bit confused about Mel's PC too Vera, but I would think the issue must be the internet connection to her PC. I remember having a disabled wireless adapter causing connection problems on just my PC once when I was doing those art courses. I don't even know whether her PC is wireless. My first thing is to switch off the router and restart it to see if that works!

I'm glad you got a bit of sleep last night and it's good the clinic was happy with your OH's eye and have booked him in for the other eye to be done. Has he noticed more wrinkles since like OH did when he had his done? I was well pleased when they sent me to the Spamedica private hospital under the NHS to assess my eyes for the cataracts to be done a couple of years ago. I suppose when Boots eventually agree to refer me it will be to an NHS hospital next time which, like you, I suspect won't be as good, with no free parking and a busy journey. I see you have had a busy day too, but with more shopping success for your OH! Yes, that did seem mean of that person to not leave a donation for the book, but I suppose they may not have carried any change. They could have asked the shop to hold it for them for a few days and gone back though.

SuffolkVera

SuffolkVera Report 14 May 2025 20:40

Annx, it was Boots that referred OH to Newmedica. They did give OH the choice of that or the hospital and he said he'd go to the one with the shortest waiting list. I wasn't given the choice because I've been having eye treatment at the hospital so they want to do the cataracts there. The doctors and other staff are great but the waiting area is dreary, the parking is expensive and you can't even get a cup of coffee at the eye treatment centre. There's also a long waiting list.

OH hasn't mentioned wrinkles (his or mine) but he's boring me silly by constantly telling me how bright everything looks.

Next door on one side we have really lovely neighbours who are usually very considerate but all afternoon the man has been hammering away at something in his garden and is still at it. One or two of the other people in our quiet little Close go to bed quite early so I am wondering how long the hammering is going on. What can he be making that requires constant banging?

MillymollyAmanda

MillymollyAmanda Report 14 May 2025 21:14

Ann Jake has another theory test I think he said this Friday, if he can just pass that I think the Instructor might put him in for a test because there's such a long waiting list now .
Yes they are all growing up we don't see so much of them now ,son always seems to be running one of them somewhere or picking them up .

Vera have you checked if they are OK next door ,he's not banging to get someone's attention is he ,seems strange to be banging this late .

SuffolkVera

SuffolkVera Report 14 May 2025 21:42

Mandy, this afternoon we just assumed he was making something but this evening I went to close our study window which is upstairs and overlooks some of their garden. I could see him doing something around his summer house. It has stopped now as it is too dark to see.

That’s a good point about him maybe trying to attract attention. I should have thought of it but it didn’t cross my mind. It’s unlikely that both he and his wife would be incapacitated and unable to reach a phone. Their daughter lives locally and they have our phone number and probably those of other neighbours. But I should have done a bit of discreet checking just in case.

Good morning all. cloudy here this morning so a bit grey but 9 degrees. We are not forecast rain but who knows I could get wet going to town for the chiropodist. I didn't have a bad night last night but nor so good as usual has been..

I meant to say about the roses. The large red ones in the first 3 photos were in this garden when we moved in, we have normally just let the plant be (It is only one plant. Each year it has had 2 or maybe 3 reluctany roses on it. It is about 35 years old. No idea why it is so full of blooms this year. I have counted about 15 and the flowers are large. It could be the weather but it is the first time it has been cut down so low. I bet this is its final fling and it will die now.
