Mo, when we were little, we use to put a blanket over the upturned clothes horse and it made a great tent. We only had bottles of water though, we didn't have pop.
When I was about 10, my friend got a real tent, she was posh because she was an only child and her mam worked as well as her dad. The rest of us in the street came from big families and only had one wage coming in.

Has anyone got room for any big spiders ? last night was my 6th one this time in the bathroom he was too big to go down the plughole so he went down the loo. I put a thread out for help. how do I get rid of them. back came a couple of replies telling me to lay conkers on the floor and the spiders will go away. it appears to be an old remedy. the only thing is I am looking for a conker tree. so tomorrow I will have to walk around the lake and see if there are any conker trees about. I have big oak trees and elms around here but no conker trees.. I cannot believe how big these are. and where they have come from.? I keep looking about incase I am near any.
well I have got my gear together ready for this hike one part of the Bitten Hills is Lava so I understnad that will be black like in Italy when I went to Pompii but surely Stephen would not take us over that it will be the green and heathers we will go.? I had to cut my toe nails as I could not get my hiking boots on I found my old Land Army socks in the drawer so they will go on under the boots. If the weather is like it is now here then we will be alright.
No I dont snore and I dont pass wind. Lol
Love Rita

I get the feeling none of us had wealthy parents..............lol
Looks like we all had to make our own tents.
Rita, I hope you don't bring any of those spiders with you, check your bags before you leave - just in case one of them has sneaked in.

Went outside to get some washing in and heard some caterwauling, well sort of semi tuneful singing, Michael Jackson's Earth song, I think it's called. I peeped over the hedge and saw two little blond lads singing their hearts out and doing the actions that go with the song, obviously huge MJ fans. I watched them for a few mins and then spotted a very pregnant lady coming towards them, one of them said Oh here's Mum, I was having some special time to myself lol She came nearer and spotted me and I said how the singing had caught my attention. We got talking and the boys were very polite and cute, one 5 and one 3, seems her Mum lives further up by the supermarket and her flat backs onto the field as we do, and the boys had watched the corn being sown and saw it grow, but missed the harvesting the other day. Now tho they can run in the field.
They apparently really love MJ so I told the Mum there is a prog about him on tv tonight around 11pm on Channel 4 - she will record it for them.
I ended up giving her some baby aloevera and money plants and a spider plant baby too.
Maybe I was talking and hearing two future popstars lol
Lizx
Not fussed about which caravan but must admit I have started snoring lately! I don't do the other thing tho and will lay off the beans and cauliflower to make sure!

Marilyn, my nan still had her Anderson Shelter in the back garden. I never liked going into it, it had loads of spiders in there. But I was friends with a little boy along the road, and we would dig worms up, from behind the shelter, cut them in half and eat them between us. Oooh yummy. ( YUK) Apparantly I was only five at the time. I know there food rationing was still on at the time, but I must have been starving to have eaten them. LOL
Were going up to the windy city, the windy city is really pretty, but it aint got what we got, no siree. I am still getting my vocal chords sorted out.
I went camping when I was in the girl guides in Malaya. Now thats a place for spiders Rita, and of course snakes We would sing Ging gang gooly gooly gooly,(cant remember the rest) round the camp fire, and we HAD to eat sausages and beans. We had a very noisy night, and it wasn't from the wind outside.

Mo,
We loved our Anderson , my brother made us kids a light hanging from the top from some wires attached to a battery , wow we thought that was the bizzo. Yes we had spiders loads of them that's why I'm frighted of them even now, but we had such fun playing shops that we got my brother to check for spiders before we entered ..LOL
One day a stray cat came in over night and gave birth to kittens so my mother stopped us from going in as the cats all spat on us being wild ... and until the kittens were old enough to leave we had to stay out....
Happy days ....LOL

Thank you Yvonne for the bit about Steve my son in Law.
I had a late night last night last night sat in bed till 3 o'clock reading a M&B book as I watch for spiders. I have never been like this before I think it is becuase they are so big and heavy.
I bunged all the overflow holes up before I went to bed and put disinfectant down the plug holes before putting the hair catching cover over the pluig holes. It is getting a night mare now. I will be pleased to get away for the weekend.
we had an air-raid shelter in out little back garden my Dad put thick concert on the floor to save the damp when it rained he then put a rubber sheet down. we had bunk beds a little table a hanging latern and some shelves for books we spent many hours in that, Mum brought us reading books and puzzels to do. The door was a heavy wood and took two of us to lift it to when we got in the shelter. we had an incendary bomb land on top one night and the ARP came and told us to get out we went to St Marys school Hall for the night at the time they thought it was a bomb and did not explode. inside our house we had one of those shelters that went on the floor like a wire cadge with pretected shields over. my Gran used that as she would not go into the Anderson shelter. I never know how she managed to crawl into that Gran was born in 1870.her friend from next door went in there with her.

Must have been a bit crushed in that cage Rita.
I can't imagine what it must have been like for people during the war. I was born in a shipbuilding area and it had been badly hit by bombs because the Germans were trying to hit the ships. I remember seeing big gaps where houses once stood and my mam would tell me about the families who'd been wiped out by direct hits. Some of them had been her relatives and some had gone to school with her. So sad!
Rita, maybe those big spiders are just coming in the door, they might be forming a queue outside, waiting for you to open the door for them.............. :o)
Yvonne, you haven't seen our caravan yet, we're keeping it as a surprise.
What are we going to do if Stephen doesn't turn up?

Morning All Having a senior moment today Really thought I'd already added this morning. Well I have Little M all week next week as Mum has finally found a full time job after a year looking !! So I will be exhausted in the evenings, not used to this after over a year of only working 2 days a week. Hubby was sworn in yesterday at 3:00. So he has finally been called. It is a lovely morning here. Might get some "Spring" cleaning done. Get rid of some of the spiders Rita is obviously sharing !!!
Take care

Pauline I dont think those spiders are coming in the door as we have two sets of doors the first are worked on electric to open and then I have the flat door. so if anyone wants to come in after certain hours when the doors dont open altermatically they have to use the outside phone for me to allow them in (Posh. )
Gran never moaned about the shelter I always thought it looked like an animals cage like you got at the zoo. she had a matress in there and pillows. can you imagine two old ladies crawling in and out of that when the siren went every night. Gran use to say" That bloody old Hitler is not getting me out of my house unless I am dead. " If Stephen is not going to turn up we will have to draw a map I know the way as far as "The Isle of Sky" but after that we need a map. Lol and good weather.
My husband was born in St Pancras and they were bombed out due to the terrible bombing they had being near the Docks as well my father in Law was a taxi driver and failed the army medical so he became a Part time Fireman, I have somewhere his little book he had to carry about with his number and detail on. They had a terrible time in that aera ours was bad enough but nothing like they had. My husband went into The Royal Fusilers in 1943 and was posted to Egypt and Greece and France. Rita

Pack up your troubles in your old kit bag, and smile smile smile. Two and a half hours before we have to be at Fort William. I was very lucky, I got a lift up as far as Motherwell, with my son and his girlfriend. Now which way do I go from here. I've got my compass out, but now I am lost, HEELLPPP Stephen. Where are the girls, I thought Shelly was going to meet us Rita, Pauline, and Jean, what does this here caravan look like. Marilyn, have you seen the others.
Seriously, has anyone heard from Jean. I have not seen her on here for a while. I know she is still doing the thread for birthdays etc. I do hope you are o.k Jean. Can you let us know how you are love.

Hi all I was wondering if Jean was alright her threads appear but not Jean. did she have to go for chemo today ?
Yes I am ready. I was just going out the door when the telephone rang my cousin Doris sittting in he garden on the" isle of Sheppy "enjoying the sun didnt have her hearing aid on so I had to shout. she told me she has lots of big hairy spiders she put her plugs in her sinks and bath at night fills the sink with water. she said they come from the garden up the plug holes so girls beware ? also she said the Dragon flies come next it is the change in the seasons that does it.
My sister emailed me to say she found two big furry spiders in her kirchen big as baby mice so I told her try conkers. so girls be warned spiders are about. I sent two copies of my Dads life story we had published to Doris my cousin and she sent a copy to one of her brothers who when speaking to his other brother on the phone told Freddie( he lives in Scoland has lived there since 1954) he wants to read it now they are passing the books about the family Doris said she wants it kept for the family so it has to be sent around . I have five spare copies so I am going to send them off to them I have not told them yet..
Marilyn our Caravan had five bedrooms in it and has all the little luxuries incliuding a shower.but the caravan goes seperately as it is too big to be towed by a cor.
jus got to put my tablets in the bag and I am away forgot to tell you I am flying up to Scotland..
