Mo in Kent Report 26 Dec 2010 16:47

Good grief Pauline that is disgusting. Is it the reccession thats doing it, or is it the centre themselves not bothering to employ people.
Are the care workers employed by social services, or is it private care.
I know that down this way, the nursing homes in particular, are always advertising for carers. But the wages are really poor for the work and hours they have to do.
During the time my mum was in a care home, she had so many different carers, but I thought at the time that it was because she was so cranky at times, but I had a word with one of the care staff , and she told me it was to do with the management, not treating their staff very well, and nothing to do with my mum.

Hi all,
Have had a lovely day doing nothing. Perfect.
Marilyn, I have 4 grown up children, youngest 2 still live at home, eldest daughter has 3 children aged 2,3 and 9 and my son has a daughter of 6 who he has shared custody of. On a weeekday I look after 2 of them between 12 and 6 pm and pick up other 2 from school at 3.30. My daughter and her 3 always have their evening meal with us as her partner works late. On the nights my son has is daughter to stay they usually eat with us as well before going home so it is always busy here. I must need my bumps felt !!! Lol.
Sometimes I'm fit for nothing by the time they all leave but I feel lucky to have a large family and glad they still feel they want to spend time with us.

I am however looking forward to getting away for New Year with OH for 5 days peace and quiet.

Cath xx

Mo, it's a private care company but they have contracts with to Social Services. They treat their staff terrible, the wages are poor and the hours very long. A couple of weeks ago one of the girls was in floods of tears because she'd had to work 70 hours a week.

An 18 year old girl started working for them last Monday, she was only supposed to be working 37 hours, but within a couple of hours on the job she'd had phone calls telling her she had to work 50 hours. By Tuesday she was told she had to work 56 hours ..........by Wednesday she'd packed in. She lasted 2½ days!!!

The girl we had was great, but they made her work twice the amount of hours she wanted to work, she never got the chance to spend any time with her kids, so she left.

Cath, I think you deserve a few days peace and quiet from all those kids ............but you wouldn't be without them would you?

Cath2010 Report 26 Dec 2010 17:14

Hi Pauline,
No I wouldn't be without any of them. I love them to bits.

Jean, lovely names for new foals.

It's still a disgusting situation though isn't it Pauline. How on earth can they make them work that amount of hours, if they are contracted for less.
But then I suppose as often happens the contracts were not ready when they agreed to take the job.
They have got them by the short and curlies, once they start work haven't they, it's either do the job or leave. A nasty way to treat good staff, and so unwarranted.

Cath where are you going for your break away, is it somewhere hot and humid, or chilly willy.
Where ever it is I am sure you will enjoy it.

Oooh I feel better for that sleep.

I have missed most of Chrissy because I have been sleeping. lol

Crashed out again on the settee, and was only woken when I was being covered up with a quilt. Aaaah. Aint love grand.

I have only had two choccies, they made me cough. lol

Still we will look forward to having another couple of days off, and maybe eat a bit more then.

Please Marily has had Pete OK over the holiday, and you must have had your hands full with Brent Pauline, but nevertheless it is the time for families, big and small.

We have sheet ice along our road, still not gritting. If everyone just came out and did their own bit, it would be great. But most of them are arty farty go getters who wouldnt know one end of a shovel from a mustard spoon, so there is no chance.

Did Stephen come to a decision over contacting that new member of his family. I must have missed a few pages. I am sure he came to the right decision for himself. No matter how we all poked our noses in for him. lol

Pauline, have you managed to get that 'greige' colour for nails. I saw it in the big stores by Chanel, but it has sold out everywhere. Strange colour, but if it is the one you have to have, then it is the one you have to have.

You have to suffer for your art, darhlings.

Hello sleepy head, are you feeling a little better now honey.
I am not sure what Stephen decided about the family member, but I believe he said he has now got a photo of her.
O.k so what the flippin eck colour is "greige". Is it a cross between green and beige lol

Mo in Kent

Mo in Kent Report 26 Dec 2010 17:28

Oh stupid me Cath, you already told us, but I had forgotten yet again.

MotownGal

MotownGal Report 26 Dec 2010 17:40

Ooh Cath. Portsmouth. Bring a sailor home for me. lol

Greige is a mix of Grey and Beige. It it what was on the catwalk in the 'Fall'. Chanel make the original, but most of the other makeup houses have followed suit. Apparently it suits most skin tones, but we have not been able to get it for love nor money. I tried all the big cosmetic counters in the West End, and even the Boots stores, but nothing. Even Mavala who do good copies, had sold out.

Good job I didnt buy it really, I didnt get around to painting me paws in any case. lol

Hi everyone it is so nice tor read all your little snippets fo things you have done and what the family have been up to. Pauline I would have a go at the company the careworkers were employed by that is really bad.something should be done to give you the help youn need. perhaps your Doctors can help you sort something out.?

My daughter and son in law came this morning they had brought me a box of groceries. a box of Liqure chocolates. a large box of after 8 mints a box of Turkish delight a tin of cholcate biscuits and a box of crakers for cheese.,
they also brought me for christmas underwear from M & and 4 pairs black thick tights and stockings I had tin biscuits from the children Megan and Ryan and Charlie also sweets and a set of sprays (Charlie I use these ) I got a box of wooden scented pot pori as well. so I can say Didnt I do well.?
I told them not to buy me anything but they didnt listen.
They stayed till gone 2 oclock. it started to get icy again Steven slipped as he went to get into the car but he didnt fall, thank goodness.

I am looking forward to getting out in a couple of days. I get a bit of cabin fever if I dont go out every day. I always have a doss around HMV. I do like my music. I want Amy Winegum to bring out a new album, I do like her voice.

I bought Kevin an Alan Partridge box set, so he will be chuckling his way through that. I dont find it all that funny, but it is smileable. I got some 5th Avenue perfume, so that will keep me going for a while.

I usually buy the new Jean Paul Gautier in the basque bottles. They bring a new one out every 6 months. I have them lined up on my chest of drawers. All pretty little bodies in suspenders and basques. Fifi Trixibelle.

Rita it is pointless telling your family not to buy for you. They love you, so they buy for you. Tell yourself you are worth it. Cos you are.

Dermot Report 26 Dec 2010 19:05

Rita - be thankful for having such a caring family. There is another thread elsewhere describing the total opposite.

By the way, how did they know your underwear size? A recent survey mentioned on the radio that many husbands have no idea of their partner's 'measurements' or maybe they were just not confident in getting it right!

MotownGal

MotownGal Report 26 Dec 2010 19:09

A quick peek in the underwear drawer, or a look on the washing line might give a clue.

Pretty stuff though. Not the dreaded red and black scratchy, tarty, slutty stuff.

Luckily me bloke has a bit more taste. lol

GRMarilyn Report 26 Dec 2010 19:34

Hi All,

Dermot you are quite right too many families think its too much trouble to think about their love ones at this time of the year.

I'm going home tomorrow.....now that is something I'm looking forward to as I have
ate too much and need to loose some weight big time ..

I didn't get to meet Liz this time as my time was taken up with the hospital..
I'm sure Luz will read this and see why I didn't contact her.

Cath enjoy yourself on your break away....you deserve it.

Maddie that colour Greige by Channel I wouldn't put anywhere near my nails , Its horrible looks like a dead persons body just collected from the from the morgue !!
A soft silver beige colour looks great on toes in the winter.

Jean hows them foals ? have you given them your chosen names yet ?

I'm sitting down by the fire place with Lappy on my lap ,and a glass of red. how good is that ...?
