Yesterday we heard that Ressie, a Canine Partners assistant dog which we puppy parented from November to June, is to be matched with a disabled person next month.
Ressie came to us at 10 months old and was the first one we had parented.
There were several things which she was very poor at (and some which were very good) but we were unconvinced that she would make the grade when she went off for assessment, so to receive an email saying she was to be matched was unimaginably joyful.
We wish her a long an happy life with her new companion.

How lovely and I bet she will be so appreciated by the person she's going to! You obviously did a better job than you thought with her. It must have been a bit hard seeing her go though.

Awwww! Well done!

Ressie is a golden retriever born New Year's Day 2013.
She lived in Chigwell, east London/Essex border from 8 weeks old until 10 months when we took her over.
She is a typical mid goldie colour and thought that her purpose in life was to eat, sleep, chew things she shouldn't and get lost in the woods (her recall was appalling).
I think she must have spent a lot of time in shops and coffee shops because she would pull on the lead out in the street but behave perfectly in shops and just settle under the table in cafes and restaurants.
She is very docile and excellent with children of all ages and a Downs relative.
We introduced her to as many situations as possible, car; buses; trains; machinery; and so on so that she was not fazed by them and taught her basic commands (list of 35).
She will be able to help a disabled person by opening doors and cupboards, picking tings up. pushing puttons for a lift or traffic lights; pulling clothing off; and loads of similar tasks (See the Canine Partners website).
When we gave her up for assessment on 23rd June we brought home an 8 week old male goldie, Kennedy, who was so white I nicknamed him Polar Bear.

just been reading the website......I wonder if our Rose would be interested.....worth a read for anyone who can't keep a dog but would like to help in the training or walking of one.

They need fund-raisers (it costs over £10,000 to train a dog); puppy parents (full time volunteers); foster parents (to take a trainee dog for a short time whilst the puppy parents are away); administration volunteers; and so on, so any offer is appreciated.

It must be so hard to let them go.

Heard yesterday that Ressie has gone home with her new Partner, Jim.

Unfortunately Kennady has been unwell this week but after three trips to the vet is on medication and is now considerably brighter.

Wow, you must be so proud Brian. Congratulations after putting in all that hard work, time and effort.

I tried hard with ours as a pup and take my hat off to anybody who gets them to behave!

So well done, you will miss her so much. Thank goodness for the new dog, good luck with him, too!
