Do you think the posters proposed by Labour (showing Howard and Letwin as flying pigs, Howard as Fagin) were anti semitic? Were they in bad taste or harmless electioneering?

In my view they were at best in very bad taste following the holocaust events recently. I do not belive they were the sort of posters a govering party should even consider. If this is the judgement of our lords and masters then I do not think they are fit for office. I would expect far better of elected politicians who should be aware of the feelings of all their constituents. Bob

The first showed the faces of Howard and Letwin superimposed on the bodies of flying pigs. It is well known that both are jewish and that pigs are seen as unclean by the jewish religion. Bob

I would say probably ill-judged and tasteless rather than blatantly anti-semitic.

Yes, I do think these posters were anti-Semitic and in very poor taste. The timing of their appearance is also highly questionable, given the Holocaust memorial day. Given the fuss over a poster in the past depicting Tony Blair as the Devil, I think these should be withdrawn and apologies offered. CB >|<

I haven't seen the posters, however, I would be astounded if those responsible for them hadn't realised the connecton that would be made (whether they would admit to that is another thing - "pigs might fly" indeed).

I don't believe the poster was intended to be anti semitic, but it's typical of politicians to be thoughtless, careless and just seeing one angle which was obviously pigs might fly, it should be withdrawn. Pat x

anti semitic??? I don't really follow politics (or even watch the news - too much bad stuff) which is probably why I have never heard of anti semitism! Can someone educate me and tell me what it means please? Jack <feeling thick> x

Jack, Anti-Semitism is hatred of Jewish people. It's what led to the persecution of Jews and the horrific slaughter of millions of them in the concentration camps during World War 2, which has become known as 'The Holocaust'. CB >|<

Maybe the retaliation should be Tony and his cronies in kilts, as New labour seems (no, not seems, it is) dominated by Scots, even if some have "lost" their accents.

Not anti-semitic..... bad taste, yes, anti-semitic, no! I didn't even know they were Jewish! Besides, didn't one Rabbi (in the Mail at least) state that he didn't think they were anti-semitic? It just a slander campaign. Wait until the Tories get theirs in order, they'll be just as bad. Politics doesn't seem to be about issues anymore, just about making fun at the other party. Chloe

Yeah Chloe, Can't wait for the Tories, there is so much they could do but they will do something just as stupid, hopefully. Think all that making fun was a favourite in the 1970's I remember a lot of very important issues were thrown by the wayside, I reckon the Tories are the best at it though. OK just my opinion that is. Pat x

I wonder if the advisers/designers were the same people that ill-advised Prince Harry?
