Thanks Shelia , Maria - Across the ditch - and Flowerpot

Will take all your suggestions on board - and hope that something turns up

Marilyn was not on her mothers DC -her Uncle was and since died - and her cousin has no idea were she went after her mothers death or that she had children

As you say may have remarried and changed the name

Thanks All

Thanks, I've messaged Jean by clicking on her name, so hoping it reaches her!

I also found a more recent (2016) request/search with the same information on another site, Curious Fox, and have messaged there also. :-)

I posted on this thread a couple of weeks ago, so just to update William has been 'found' and connected with family who have been looking for him!

However, we are still looking for Juanita (Juanita Ann Francis Gill, b. 1954, Hammersmith, London, UK. Parents were Marilyn Croft and James Francis Gill, married in Croydon, Surrey, UK in 1953.

William last visited his sister in Cheltenham, Gloucester, UK, he thinks when he was in his 50's (he's 64 now.) He says that Juanita worked and lived in a nursing home. William is also keen to see his sister again, but has no means of contacting her. We've tried the phone book for Cheltenham (and wider area), and are following a few J Gill leads.

If anyone has any connections in the Cheltenham area, or has any info please message and let us know! Many thanks.

Does William know if his sister was single when he visited her?

Did he visit her at her home/workplace? Or meet her elsewhere?

Nothing online for her apart from her birth.

There was a Juanita Ann Frances Wilson in Lockerbie, Dumfriesshire in 2013 ER., aged 65-69 (I think that means age in 2019-20?).

That woman married Mr Wilson in Ayr in 1964 under the surnames Hoole or Andrew - so maybe not your Juanita - but the forenames are a big coincidence.

That woman was not born in Scotland, and has not died there under any of those surnames.

EDIT:

NO - silly me - she can't be your Juanita unless she married when she was 10 !
Ah well, back to the drawing board.

I don't suppose William remembers the name of the nursing home?

Peter

Peter Report 10 Feb 2020 19:19

We know that she wasn't married when William last saw her, but she was seeing a guy who was a Policeman apparently.

He doesn't know the name of the home, but he says that she worked and lived in the game place.

It was within walking distance of the coach station, so I've called a number of care/retirement homes within 20 mins walk based on a few landmarks William has given me (we've been on Google maps looking at street view.)

No joy so far but still searching!

Hi,

I've just joined because I think that the father of Juanita and William might've been my grandfather - James William Frank Gill (known as Francis) - who immigrated to Perth, Western Australia in the 1960s.

I've sent a PM to Jean - let me know how I can help.

(Please note that I've only taken a one month subscription so post something public in case I miss it!)

Daniel

It might be a good idea to try to contact Peter. His post is much more recent.

He is not related to this family - he was merely trying to help William, with whom he was in contact

Thanks for the suggestion. I did contact Peter but I've also had a response from the original poster and she doesn't think that it's the same person. Nevermind - coincidences happen!

On the other hand -
presumably Jean doesn't know for sure - she just thinks he's not the same man, maybe because of the other middle name William.

Have you researched your grandfather's life before he emigrated? Where and when was he born? What was his father's name?

It's interesting (though possibly another coincidence and a total red herring ) that the James F Gill who was born in Exeter in 1928 had the middle name Frank:

GILL, JAMES FRANK [ mmn Watts per FreeBMD ]
GRO Reference: 1928 M Quarter in EXETER Volume 05B Page 86

but was called James Francis at marriage
[ * IF* that's the same person , and of course we don't know, as Jean didn't tell us what the marriage cert gave as his father's name. ]

and you say that your grandfather's middle name was Frank, but he was known as Francis.

At the risk of going off in a completely wrong direction, here's the probable marriage of the parents of the man born in 1928:

Marriages Jun 1927 (>99%)
Gill James Watts St. Thomas 5b 154
Watts Nellie Gill St.Thomas 5b 154

James's wife Marilyn Croft, born 1932 Wandsworth, is the only Marilyn Croft born anywhere near that year, in England.

Ancestry suggests that this could be a remarriage [ if she and James divorced and she reverted to her maiden name ?? ]:

Marilyn Croft

If your grandfather didn't marry Mildred Croft, it isn't the same man.

When and where was he born?
