Goodmorning , Is my wife’s family really linked to Samuel Crompton the inventor of the spinning mule. They come from the right area, and there are some Crompton’s in the tree. But I can not seem to get any more information. |

Thank you Dea. That's the family, I did not know anything about the youngest child James, perhaps he died at a young age. I Its a shame Mary's parents were not living with them. Oh well. |

Gael, That sound very possible. Great Lever is very close to Bolton & Farnwoth. I wonder if they are on the 1871 census. |

Does her marriage certificate give her address? |

This looks like her with elder step-brother, Thomas. |

Hi Christina, she was a domestic servant in Newport street, Great Bolton on the marriage cert, the witnesses were, Martin Delaney & Mary Ellen Quinlan. It also states on the cert that James Crompton (farther) was a Carter, Timothy Quinlan (James Quinlan's farther) was a tailor. James Quinlan was a grocers assistant |

When I first met my wife, who's family still lived in Bolton at the time. that was the same story, "we are descendants of Samuel Crompton you know". They said that one of Samuel's children or Grandchildren married below their status and was cut off. who knows, it is possible we are related. Thanks Joe |

Is there a wedding record for James Crompton to either Ellen or his other wife that might help find his parents. or perhaps a baptism record. |
|||
|
Joseph | Report | 25 Jul 2010 17:24 |
I can not find a wedding record for James and Ellen, nor can I find them on the 1881 census, but as yet I can not see a death record either. |
