Thank you so much Dea, HeyJude and Chris Ho for all the added information.

HeyJude, I have checked the deaths of all the other Ernest A Alexander born about 1892 and all their death are accounted for.

So even though the year of birth gives abt 1892, I do think that 1943 death is a possibility.

Chris Ho, the British Merchant Seaman record you posted is definitely my chap.

On the 1911 census, he was living at 128 Lyon Street, Southampton.

Might be worth £9.25.....remember, the information on the death certificate is only as good as the informant.

My mum was the informant for her mother's death and she reported her year of birth as 1889 when it was actually 1888.
