how do i go about seeing a marriage certificate ? i have found the registry of it but need to see the parents names. i know i might have to pay but i don't know where to look .

Some marriages in some areas show as photocopies of actual pages on sites like Ancestry.

Marriage certificates after 1837 should show father's name, but mothers are not named.

You need to register, if you are a first time customer, but that is free registration and only needed for a first purchase.

If you'd like to give the ref details, we might be able to find a transcript or image on another site.
As a rule of thumb, details from marriages in the last 75-100 years tend not to be available. There are exceptions.

i was doing well until one branch of my family was going nowhere so gave up about six years ago, just started again and have realised there were two families in the same area with all similar names and similar dates so suspect this is were i went wrong. this marriage certificate would point me in the right direction. This would be the couple in 1911 census and I think the daughter, Sarah Elizabeth, could be "your" Elizabeth , although her birth is registered as Elizabeth Sarah:-

The couple in Northamptonshire have a daughter called Molly E. Knowles and a son, George W. Knowles. I have checked their births but the mother's maiden name is Jackson, so not the family Gary is looking for.

I think the one found earlier is more likely to be the family.

To be absolutely certain the 1919 marriage certificate is needed.

i have all the info on the Fisher's , and when first married they were at the Nags head yard , its the knowles im having trouble with before that, that is why i need their marriage certificate.

if the George William (1898) in the 1939 record posted by Greyghost is the right one, then he wasn't born in Surrey, and therefore we have no idea which of several born in other places in 1898 he might be.

As has already been said, you need the marriage certificate but following on from the above post, I think this is Georgw William's birth.

He's listed as Willie on the 1911 census. The parents haven't filled in the number of years married but have stated 13 children born, 7 living.

From the GRO index the mother's maiden surname is Eaves but I can't see a marriage for them so perhaps one of his parents wasn't free to marry.
