I was just looking into that Chris! :-)
On the 1891 census, Walter and Ellen have a son William
AIREY on original
1891 England, Wales & Scotland Census
Queen Street, Salford, Lancashire, England
Walter Aney Head Married Male 32 1859 Labourer Bolton, Lancashire, England
Ellen Aney Wife Married Female 33 1858 Tailoress Dublin, Ireland
Annie Aney Daughter - Female 12 1879 Scholar Salford, Lancashire, England
William Aney Son - Male 8 1883 Scholar Salford, Lancashire, England
Frances Aney Daughter - Female 3 1888 - Salford, Lancashire, England
I can't find a birth registered for a William Airey born 1883 Salford, Lancashire.
I though it might be this one.........
Births Mar 1884 (>99%) Airey John William Salford 8d 19
But I have checked him out and it's not him.
I need to put my thinking cap on! lol

Wonder if below Birth?, at bottom of first page on Navy Record, in 'blacky' patch!, says 'name given on entry to be adhered to, then what looks like 'although 9 May 1883?...
Image overleaf then mentions NZN Appointment.
(on Find My Past also)

I have just remembered........
On the top of the page of the Seaman's Service record I posted........
Above...... William Airey alias William Taylor...is written "Chatham"
So I wouldn't mind betting this is William on the 1911 census.........
William Taylor in the 1911 England Census Name: William Taylor Age in 1911: 28 Estimated birth year: abt 1883 Relation to Head: Boarder Gender: Male Birth Place: Manchester Civil Parish: Chatham County/Island: Kent Country: England Street address: 188 High Street, Chatham Marital Status: Single Occupation: Petty Officer 1Cl Royal Navy Registration district: Medway Registration District Number: 47 Sub-registration district: Rochester and Chatham
Household Members:
Percy Ansell 46 Laura Ansell 54 Lydia Swyer 23 Alice Newton 23 Florence Smoker 18 Edward Martin 37 Frederick Janes 22 William Taylor 28 <<<<< John Cauley 28 Harold Collins 27 Joseph Hitchen 24 Thomas Oldham 21 John Edmonds 24 Percy Joyce 21 James Hey Taylor 27 Edward Cornell 28
William was 9 years old when his mother died.......so I wonder if perhaps he was fostered out to a Taylor family and decided to keep that surname.

Oh, norty Maria Airey.........and there was me saying how well she did for herself!
William Airey on the 1901 census, appears as Willam Ancy on Ancestry.
Apart from Patricia hoping to find out what happened to Minnie Skeen, I don't even know if any of this information is of interest to her?
As there were no words of appreciation, I do believe I have wasted many hours of my time.
:-(
