For reference--is this Emma and children in 1851? It states that she is widowed. |

I think Auber is her maiden name as she regieterd her mum's death in 1858. She was Elizabeth Auber and she had a daughter Emma in 1813. |

Okay, who is George?? Is that Edwin Gore? It states in the 1861 census that she is widowed still. |

This may be the first son Edwin and his family now in 1871. |

Edwins sep 1840 birth cert says Emma's maiden name was Oxley. She was baptised Emma Auber only. I would have thought she would be easier to find in 1841 if she had a son. |

Sorry correction. Having just checked the cert it says Emma Auber formely Obey not Oxley sorry. Brain is getting overloaded. |

Ben, I can't find Emma or Edwin on the 1841 census. If it's there, it's under a misspelled last name and that's why it's not coming up. Perhaps you should obtain a copy of Edwin's marriage certificate to see what is stated on the record 20+ years later. It may or may not give you a clue. |

Ben, is it possible that you do not have the correct Emma. If Edwin's birth states that his mother's maiden name was Obey, then it's possible that Emma married into the Auber family. Why would she give a different maiden name if she wasn't married. |
