Gin,

Fanciful stories!

Those you would expect from someone who at an early was dragged kicking and screaming from the stockbroker belt to the wilds of West Wales. There to be raised amongst cows, pigs and other assorted beasts of the field. Forced to do the work of 10 men before having a breakfast of raw turnip and carrot juice. Having to walk 7 miles a day to school dressed only in a used potato sack. Now after leading a life full of Christian belief and general bonhomie being forced every evening to stand beneath a lamppost on a draughty street corner hoping that some half blind or demented soul would actually be desperate enough to consider parting with the meagre sum of 50p or 2 fags in exchange for her favours.

But not from our Fanny. Every word she utters is the truth and nothing but the truth.

My Grandmother used to organise coach trips down there and I remember the pier in it's former glory.
It was like fairyland to a little girl with all the lights.

Talking of grandmother I found a book that she helped to research at WDYTYA. It was about Eltham and there were several pictures of her in it.

I think most of those who arrived for the lunch-time session are 'flaked out' in the 'gazebo thingy MC, or under a table somewhere.

The others will be arriving to 'arouse' them soon :-D

Southend and Canvey Island used to be miles away when I was a kid and I only lived in Romford. The only holidays I had as a child was to Canvey, now I live a mile or two away I never go there.

What a fantastic find LK, the book with pictures of your grandmother in.

I always think that when we live close to somewhere it is the last place in the world we go to. I think its a case of being able to go anytime so end up not going at all.
