A question for all the wise and wonderful people .... just got an email from Ancestry offering me FTM for 42.89 with a 6 month free premium

Majority of family come from Northern Ireland.

Many of Irish records have been destroyed and I need 1800's and prior info.

I have some family members who died in WWI and the blurb on Ancestry indicates military service records can be obtained.

Questions ...... What Irish records can I get that are not available on FSO and what service records can I get. And the biggest Q is it worth it

I don't really think that Ancestry can give you much help on Irish records R

I don't understand when you say they ofered 'FTM' ??? for ................

You CAN get certain ww1 service records certainly but you can ask us on here for these!

If it is Irish records you really need, I am not sure it is worth it !!

Perhaps others can advise?

Cyns just brought back memories of the 2 room school I attended (picture at calhame.ca) where all manner of things were drilled into my head.

12 inches 1 foot, 3 feet 1 yard, 5 1/2 yards 1 perch, 40 perches 1 furlong, 8 furlongs 1 mile. We all had to memorize and recite this many times.

I remember that too - it was all listed out on the back of the red exersise book that you had to do all your work in !! :-D :-D

What about the times tables. 16 ones are 16, 16 twos are 32, 16 threes are 48 etc. don't think the kids today would be capable of any of this.

The only extra I can see is that he was born in Ballymoney!

Is that a different place to Ballymena??
