Gins... Do you always have prednisone handy... for JB?

Dea and I both know what it is like...

Gee

Gee Report 24 Dec 2011 07:54

prednisone...never heard of it?

JB has salbutamol and a brown preventer, corticosteroid

Dea

Dea Report 24 Dec 2011 08:01

OOhh Ginns - Yes, make sure you get something for JB before he gets any worse!!!

Luckily, my 'lovely' Doctor lets me have prednisolone and antibiotics to keep in the house so that I can take them immediately when I need them.

I then go and see her when I have finished the course and she checks me out, then gives me another prescription to keep in for the next time!

Not all Doctors will do this though but she knows that I will only take them when absolutely necessary.

JB will most certainly need something to keep things under control !

Let us know how you get on with the 'Doc' <3

I take it when I get an attack and it alleviates and I use a spacer and ventolin puffing in and out. You can only take it for a short while but it is excellent (for me) ... the ambulance guys were impressed that I had presence of mind to take it and with that and me puffing and blowing and then their nebulizer administered at home followed by another couple and I ended up home same day. If I hadn't done that straight away I would have been on the floor and out of it :-(

Otherwise I take flixotide preventer morning and night.. :-S

Like Dea,

I have Prednisone with me all the time... My doctor is the same she knows I won't just have them for the fun of it... besides if you take them for too long your body will react and your pulse will race etc.

It's prednisolone here Gins.

They are steroids.

I take them as a course of tablets to sort things out when I get really bad - usually for about 10 days.

There is a 'newish' inhaler (turbohaler) called Symbicort which is actually brilliant! - Unlike the others, it is strange because you cannot feel or taste it so you think you haven't had any but taken twice a day it makes a real difference.

Depending on how controlled his asthma is normally, it might be worth asking about when this whooping cough problem has been sorted.. I found that I didn't need the 'preventer' inhaler and at hardly any salbutamol unless I had a bad 'flare-up',

Just popping by to wish you all a Happy Christmas, despite the health worries some are facing.

Gins- when you get to the hospital, do tell the receptionist that they have been in contact with whooping cough and make sure they are put into a side room so there is less chance of infecting other people.

Fingers crossed that it turns out to be a bad cough, and nothing else.
