There are several trees on Ancestry that list the fostering of Doris and say she could have used several different surnames
One also says her last visit to bootle was c1931/2

The family have always thought that she was adopted in 1912 ,and she could of used different surnames dayer ,Edwards ,malenberg or Desmond ,also can't understand why she was adopted when her mum was pregnant at the time of the adoption ,and my nan ( Martha ) was kept ., especially after Rachel had lost a child Evelyn in 1905
Thanks for your help

Rachel must have been with Arthur Edwards in 1911, as this is the birth of their first son (per a tree on Ancestry) - although they didn't marry until 1927:

Births Sep 1911 (>99%)
Edwards Arthur T mms Plunkett W.Derby 8b 650

Trees on Ancestry say Arthur was Arthur William Edwards, 1883 West Felton, Shropshire.
I can see him on all censuses up to and including 1901 (variously Arthur, William, and William A, with varying YOB's) - but not 1911.
