Morning all.

*Wipes Linda's face* Stephen's kiss was a bit wet.

Hope you have a lovely day Linda, are you doing anything special?

Think I'll have the poached eggs on toast today Stephen, thank you.

Shelly, I wish you lived a bit nearer me, you could have helped me with that chest of draws........... LOL

Your husband is a very lucky man, how would he cope without you?
Did your son get home safely?

It was the last in the series of Barra last night they gave a party for father John Paul he had been there a year as their priest. although born there.

The senery last night was really lovely. The cloud to all this is they are trying to make it into a consevation place, which will mean all the people on the isle will loose their livelyhood and they are a true community and already conserve the fish and take only what is neccesary to live on.
the post office is the smallest in the country. they make their living on fishing and holiday makers mostly
.
I pray that the goverment will change their minds and let these poeple carry on with their way of life peaceful.

Rita,

You would need to visit the Hebrides and other Islands to fully realise the way of life the people have. It is like another world in many ways. The beauty is outstanding and the people so nice.

The other side to that is that there are many social problems caused by the remoteness and cost of living. Young people have to leave the Islands to secure employment and University and College Education. Many never return.

Alcoholism and depression are major problems. Suicide rates are high.

Affordable housing is in short supply. Houses being bought up and used as Holiday Homes drive prices sky high. Locals cannot afford to buy them.

Yes ! Paradise.......but at a cost.

Morming everyone,
I hope I'm not too late for brekkie.
Happy birthday Linda!

Stephen the fact about the battle of Culloden I remembered reading in one of the books I read within the last 6 months. Like you said that is one of the benefits of reading. You learn something!

I've got to go shopping but only to buy food!

The Island of Barra didnt seem like that most people we saw lived on the
island and lived off the shore and sea diving from shell fish and kept chickens. lambs cows things like that. most of he young people did leave
barra and work across the mainland and many came back when they could get work.
It is not a place for young people as there is not much for them to do. but they still had little dances and had a band and held meets in their little hall.
It would not be a place for me. but for those who grew up there must be a paradise except during the winter months. which we know are very hard. but why must a goverment step in to change the lives of these proud people when they are doing no harm to anyone.
They hold sailing compitions and keep their lives busy.

I saw a political debate on TV a few nights ago infact I stayed up till 12 o clock as I found it so interesting and the leader of Scotland parliment spoke out and I agreed with most of what he said. . he did tell the English people to stand fast about the NHS and said if Scotland and Wales can have free perscriptions why couldnt the English have them as well. at that time I wished I lived in Scotland. Lol
I dont pay for my perscription.

My friend came round with the new baby to give me a birthday card !!! He is less than 3 days old, he looks gorgeous and will be spoilt by his older brother and 2 sisters.

Hello everyone

Happy Birthday Linda, have a lovely evening, hope hubby is feeling better.

thanks for the piece of birthday cake, yummy

It's my big sister's birthday today too, and my OH's tomorrow. I'm making a cake for him, I usually buy one from the supermarket but I decided to make one this time, just a Victoria sponge with icing on top and a few candles, I can't make a cake big enough to put all the candles on lol

My OH went back to doc's yesterday as he's still feeling under the weather, he finished his course of antibioctics for his chest infection but still feels tired all the time, doc sent him to hospital for blood tests and to make an appointment for xray for kidney stones, he had them about 3 years ago and had them blasted but doc thinks he's got more.

what a lovely daughter you have Rita, sorting out a holiday for you all, someting to look forward to.

Evening All !

I've been shopping with Mrs Stephen..........and survived ROFL

Accidents !

When I fell off the roof, I staggered into the house where my family were sitting watching telly.

'Did you not think of coming to help me?' Says I.

'We saw you going passed the window and thought you were joking' was the reply

Serves me right for being a practical joker at times.

Time for tea.

Motown
I didnt know that about the Leper colony my fathers fathers family orignated from Devon Hontion district I can go back 8 or more generations back to 1600 . I never came across that . Great Grandmothers family were Quakers from Ufculme first one I found was 1680 they came from Hemlock. They were part of The Society of Friends from East Devonshire. many are buried in a place called Spiceland a Quaker burial ground I have the offical list of births marriages and deaths.
for the Ackland family.and other in that Quaker society.

When I lived in Ealing we went to the smallest church in Perivale St Marys it held about 20/30 people and they had long windows dotted about with closed parts these were were the Lepers worshipped they are called them Leper windows.
My daughter was married in that little church in 1971 and many of the guests had to stand outside to listen to the service. I think she was the last person to get married there ?

Rita,

What a great Family History you have uncovered. You must have spent many. many hours researching.

A great legacy to pass on to your own family.

I have still a lot to do on my own tree, double checking the validity of the information takes ages.

My dear lady I have managed to trace back via the Spanish Armada sailors that landed in Ireland to a Princess Navara of Spain. Yep ! She is of Royal Blood. Treats me like a servant. ROFL
