A song of Benbecula, my favourite Hebridean Island

The Dark Island

Away to the westward, I'm longing to be
Where the beauties of heaven’ unfold by the sea
Where the sweet purple heather’ blooms fragrant and free
On a hill-top, high above the Dark Island

Oh Isle of my childhood I'in dreaming of thee
As the steamer leaves Oban, and passes Tiree
Soon I'll capture the magic, that lingers for me
When I'm back, once more upon, the Dark Island
.
So gentle the sea breeze’ that ripples the bay
Where the stream joins the ocean, and young children play
On a strand of pure silver, I'll welcome each day
And I'll roam forever more, the Dark Island
.
True gem of the hebrides, bathed in the light
Like a midsummer dawning, that follows the night
How I long for the cry, of the seagulls in flight
As they circle high above’ the Dark Island

Oh Isle of my childhood I'm dreaming of thee
As the steamer leaves Oban, and passes Tiree
Soon I'll capture the magic, that lingers for me
When I'm back, once more upon, the Dark Island

Do a Google for 'Photos of Benbecula'

Time for tea and chilled Irn-Bru

Stephen I haven't done any weights yet.
I cycle for 1.5 miles, row 55m and use the treadmill for 15mins. I got as fast as 5 miles per hour :-D
I thought it was quite amusing when it said that it was the coolest summer for 20 years. Anyone could have told you that!
I'm listening to radio 4 now.

Pat,
Never mind a six pack.......just enjoy everything you do......when it becomes a chore.....give it up.......exercise should be FUN.
I see folk out 'jogging' and very few look as if they are having any fun....the pained expression says it all.
Have a great time at your Gym, you should make friends who have the same aim as you.

Good morning everyone, hope you are all well and enjoying life.
Sorry to have been absent for so long, I find chemo takes away my concentration, cant really settle to do very much of anything.
OMG, looks like I have lots of catching up to do, this thread has grown so much.
Only 5 more treatments, today and Friday, then Mon/Wed/Fri next week, then another scan at the end of the month.
Where has our summer gone? I had my heating on last night for a few hours it went so cold at teatime.
Has anyone done anything interesting or exciting?
Going to make a cuppa and some toast and catch up with your posts on here.

Take care and stay safe today.
Jean xx :-) :-) :-)

Hi all, another dull dark day. At least it's dry and not as cold as yesterday.

I've no doubt those big black clouds are waiting for me to go out of the door before they burst.

Shelly, looks like you missed Marilyn as well, we'll just have to grovel a bit when she comes on.
I think your Barber family are hiding from you, they don't want to be found.

Hope everything goes well for you Jean............. love the avatar.

Have a good day everyone.

Rita Report 31 Aug 2011 15:45

while the weather was nice and dry and the sun was shinning I caught the bus into Woking to get my hair done.
There was a young women on the bus who had a baby in a pram and her other three little ones sat at the back, and made one hell of a noise they were shouting and singing and arguing they eldest must have been about 6 she shouted at them to stop and they carrie don, I could hardly wait for my bus stop to come so I could get off.

when I got to the hair dresses they were packed out and there were only three girls on duty people where coming in and going out because they didnt want to wait. I had my hair washed trimmed and blow dried I felt better when I cam out of the shop. I walked along the Mall and brought myself a skirt and two blouses. little devil I was today.

I felt tired when I go back home but I am pleased I had my hair done.

I hope everyone is having a good day. I know Jean will not. but it will be another out of the way for her.
