Well I just typed a wonderful message, and the Hub went doolally. So will try and remember wot I wrote.

Waitrose do a vast array of whiskies, Scottish and Irish. Bought a bottle of Islay for husband. Cost me about 20 quid. Husband said it tasted like liquid peat. So that was a score up the Swanee.

Love the old films. Used to sit and watch them on Sunday afternoons. Bette Davis, Joan Crawford, David Niven, Errol Flynn, Myrna Loy, Frederick March.

Try to talk to girls at work about films, they dont know what I am talking about.

I am younger than them.

MORNING ONE AND ALL.

I would set out the breakfast things, but I cant remember what they look like. If I was to go back and see I would lose this message.

Couldnt sleep, so got up. Gawd what a morning. It is dark, cold, and pouring with rain. Turned on the tv to see if there is anything worth watching to kill and hour or two before I head up Oxford Street. And the answer is nothing. Lots of ads for records, beauty and fitness regimes, and general twoddle they cant sell at any other time. I fancy a bit of Miss Marple with Joan Hickson, but no such luck.

Hope you are all well. Back later on some time today.

Have a good day all.

Morning All !

Maddie....you're up early !

As we say up here......It's Dreich this morning.

Glad I'll be working indoors for a wee while.

Then to finish off Granddaughters Birthday Celebrations we are having a party in a local hall for all her friends from school etc this afternoon. That should be great fun..

Nothing like the laughter of children to brighten up your day.

Tonight my wife and I are going to an African Traditional Christening Celebration. Leman, the dad, has promised that we will see some marvellous Tribal dancing and a whole lot of other interesting cultural rituals. He expects around 150 guests to attend. African food is on the menu....that in itself will be an experience. The festivities are from 8pm until 2am.

Have a good day.

Dame Shelly......did you go to bed at all?

Stephen2009

Stephen2009 Report 23 Oct 2010 07:11

Marilyn......

That Whisky won't get any more mature. It's got to be in a wooden Whisky cask to mature.

DRINK IT !

Well at least share it with some special friends.

It's probably worth around £30 ...how does that compare with your purchase price?

Morning all.

It's dark and wet here as well Maddie, don't think it'll get any better as the day goes on either. I needed to do some work in the garden - loads of dead-heading and cutting back to do. I'll watch DVDs instead. Enjoy your shopping at Oxford Street.

I think we can safely say that Stephen won't have a boring day today.

Have fun at the birthday party Stephen and tell us all about the Christening celebrations when you get the chance. I didn't know African Christenings were such a big occasion, mind you - I don't know any African people, so that might have something to do with it.

I haven't been to a Christening for years, the celebrations usually go on all day but I've never been to one that had entertainment.

Yeah Marilyn, I meant to say that to you last night...........about the whisky, once it's in the bottle - the years don't count.

Where are the rest of you on this dark and gloomy day?

Jean, hope you're managing to cope with the treatment.

Morning All,

Didn't get woken up until 8am ......not bad for the young ones its usually 6am.

Stephen talking of numbers, whats your 2009 mean ? would it be because you joined genes in 2009 ? just curious & nosy.

That whisky was a gift from a Doctor & wife friend when they came to stay from London He has a good choice of wine that's for sure, has a boat and goes sails to France regularly.. must ask him to stay again ...LOL

Maddie the sun is SHINNING again here although it did rain during the night.
Shelly will not be pleased that I have her sun, as it shines on the righteous.!!

Going to get kids breckies ....

Hi Pauline....we posted the same ish ....

How come you always get sun down there?

Do you know Marilyn..........I didn't even notice that Stephen had 2009 on his name, how observant am I?

Looks like it could be the date he joined.

Did it take you a year to find us Stephen?

It took me about 2 years to notice Mo had Kent on her name, in fact I didn't notice, Mo had to tell me.

Round 1. Building work finished for the day.

Round 2. Shower, dress and off to a Birthday party for my lovely wee Granddaughter, Darcey. A big 5 year old now.

When daylight came my prediction was proved correct.

I told my wife I could SMELL snow when we were going to bed last night.

Guess what ?

The SNOW has arrived on our local hills.

Probably as much as 2" on the tops tailing off down to just about 1000ft above sea level
.
Might take the GrandChildren up to the snowline tomorrow so they can sledge and throw snowballs.

This is the earliest that I have seen it arrive for many years.

It only vanished at the beginning of June. The latest it has stayed in a long time.

Is our wee Planet trying to tell us something?

See ya later......possibly.

MotownGal Report 23 Oct 2010 12:40

Yay, back home. Thank goodness.

Is it just men that can smell weather. My Dad could always smell the rain coming. Sure enough, within the hour, it poured down.

Oxford Street was MAD.

I went to get myself a pair of trainers/sensible shoes. Remember I told you I fell over at work, on a grape. Went down hard on one knee [call me Prince Charming] and really hurt my knee. Been having trouble with my knee, ankle and hip since. Doc said to give my feet support with trainers. Had an old white pair from gawd-knows-when, so got myself a new pair from Clarks.

Very sensible, Mum would be pleased. She always bought me Clarks or Startrite. Great clompy ones with a t-bar and a buckle. No matter how I scraped my feet at the swings, they wouldnt wear out.

Gonna crash out now, been up since 4.55, dont know why. Just woke and felt I had to get up. Going beddy bye-byes.

Talk later.

Mo in Kent

Mo in Kent Report 23 Oct 2010 15:43

I can smell rain coming as well, but not snow. But with my snozzle, I can't miss it. LOL

We have been to numerous Nigerian weddings and christenings, especially when we were doing the fostering.
They certainly know how to enjoy themselves, and we enjoyed the food as well. It's not to everybodies taste, but suited our palates.
The costumes they all wore were wonderful. Most seemed to belong to the same villages, and wore the same type of clothing,in the same colours.

Pauline, staying inside watching DVD's sounds like a good idea to me.
It's amazing what we don't look at when reading the threads, isn't it.
Like when Pauline, Marilyn and Shelly add little bits to their names, squiggly bit etc.
Unlike clever them, I had to add Kent to my name as there were other Mo's on the threads at the time.

My god Maddie, you are brave facing Oxford Street on a Saturday. It attracts
so many visitors at this time of year doesn't it.
When do the xmas lights get turned on there. Who have they got to switch
them on this year, do you know.

I hope you are enjoying the parties Stephen, and that the children don't cover you in to much jelly, and the like.

Has Rita been on today, I don't remember seeing her posting.

Hi Marilyn, Yvonne, Shelly, I haven't forgotten you all.
I will meet you at the Victoria meet Yvonne, it's a pity that Marilyn will be away. Still we can talk about her behind her back, and she wont know about it. LOL

Hi All
Back from Devon !!!
Thanks Marilyn from all of us, we had a great time. The Devon Cream Tea was lovely and the guided tour was really lovely.
We spent Wednesday up to Bude and then had a meal in Kilkhampton, and back across Dartmoor. Thursday we went to Looe, as Marilyn had the day before !! It is lovely and we had never been there before. Friday off to the moors again, Postbridge and Widecombe.
Today we came back across the moors then up the A303, A30 and then the M3. A good journey, don't envy the poor families going in the opposite direction................ down towards Devon.School half term.
Towels already in the wash.
Sorry I missed two important birthdays, so I send belated wishes to Brent and Mo. I hope you both enjoyed your special days.
I'll try to get back to routine tomorrow.

Linda :o) XxX

PS the weather was very kind to us. But very wet overnight and heavy downpours whilst packing our car and some of the way home............... but dry in Berkshire. Linda X

The best laid plans of mice and men.........

Out the window goes our night out at the Christening.

My dear lady is very unwell and just could not face the journey or being out so late. What a bummer, we were so looking forward to it.

She is currently stretched out on the sofa....doped up to the eyeballs...she.just can't be bothered with anything.

Neil Oliver, the chap with the Scots accent and long hair who does Coast, was at my Grandaughters party this afternoon, dropping off his wee lad, Archie. His son is his double including the long hair.
It's handy knowing Neil, when he has a new book out, my daughter buys it for me and nips round the corner to Neils house to have it signed. First Editions signed by the Author, magic. I have a collection of fairly rare books, in addition to hundreds of others.
It's a wee hobby of mine. And yes I do read them.

Keep on trucking !

See ya all tomorrow

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH.

I love Neil Oliver. I love his hair, and the soft accent. I loved him in Two Men in a Trench and I love him on Coast.

I feel quite sick with disappointment.

Two wet hot tears running down my face.

Walks off sobbing.

Bum. That was my posting earlier that I just deleted.

See - tears in my eyes.

Neil Oliver is my favouite ,I watch Coast .and have seen most of them ,two or three times. I never get fed up watching. as I always see something I had not noticed before.
