Morning all.

My Mum went to a convent as well in Peckham she loved it.

When I lived in West Wickham we would sometimes hear the airplanes from Biggin Hill especially when they had the air show up there. I know thats not the same as all the time but I can imagine what it must be like.

You seem to be very busy at the moment Annx with all the loft clearing out that you are doing. The thing is I start doing things like that especially with clothes and then I think I will keep that I might just wear it again and put it back. Then I never wear it again.

I use jars of sauces with some of my food especially if doing some quick chicken dish or some pasta dish.

I wonder how hot it will get today 17deg. that would be lovely would be nice to see some sun though.

Hope the problem with your tooth and gum sorts itself out soon Pat it must be really painful. Are you on any antibiotics?

BBL

Does anybody remember Alpine fizzy pop, they used to deliver it door to door in an opened back truck, this was way back in the 1970's.
the choice of flavours was massive, my favourite was pineapple.
The pop was in glass bottles which I think had a few pence return on them. Those were the days !!

Hi Flowers and welcome to the thread.

I don't think I remember that name but we had a Corona man call. Don't think they had pinapple flavoured drink though. Just the usual Cherryade, Orange, Lemon, Cola, Cream Soda, Appleade etc. Maybe dandlion and burdock oh and shandy.

3d back on the bottles.

Morning All,

Hav'nt caught up with posts yet but had to see what Flowers had to say.

Taken me an age to get on here today having to sign in three times.

Welcome Flowers to the thread. I am the same as Mel I remember Corona man coming round selling the drinks in glass bottles with some money back on them. I also remember when the milkman came round in a horse drawn vehicle the milkman was called Harry but cant remember the name of the horse. I also remember a man used to come round in a van who we used to call Ken the 'eggman' because he sold eggs etc .

Thats it now I will start remembring things now it just takes one comment and it triggers a load of memories.

All I can say is 'happy days'.

Thanks Frank for jokes made me laugh where do you get them all from?

rs when they come over and sometimes the whole ground shakes.

Oh the first part of my post has'nt come out!!!! I shall start again :-|

We had those big jets come over last week. We used to get them over on a regular basis but they closed down a base near us and now we only get them occasionally. I have to put my fingers in my ears when they fly over and the ground shakes sometimes. The chickens hate them. I think they think it is a BIG BIRD :-(

Morning All
and Hello Flowers.
I have never heard of Alpine Fizzy either.Just the man who delivered Corona.I think it could have been the milkman but not sure about that.

Denise ,my Sister has an Egg man now.He just sells eggs. They leave an empty egg box on the doorstep if they want more eggs and put the money in the box.Living in a village and only having a post office with small shop,we had the Fish Man,The Butcher Man,The Veg man,The Bettaware Man,and `The Man from the Pru lol.Oh and the Mobile Library. My Nana used to love it when that came as she had a good old chinwag with the other elderly ladies.

It is so warm now even with a breeze. No sunshine.I wonder if we will get any.
I think it is time to stock up on Antihistamines again.Chester seems to be getting itchy.I heard someone cutting their lawn the other day and that is a sign that we will soon be sniffing and getting itchy bits :-S

I reckon Frank will be swanning about baring that chest of his today and down to shorts or underpants :-D :-D ;-) ;-)

Coffee time .BBL

Welcome Flowers.

Where do you hail from, and what age group. over 60 or under. you don't have to say exactly :-D :-D :-D

Denise, The e-mails come from all over. An old school friend in Australia another in Kent. Most of them make me smile, I hope none offend anyone. :-0 :-0 :-0

Nice calm morning here, No sun but no wind either, thank goodness.

Flowers, please feel free to jog us old un's memories. I think we have covered most things from the war years up to recent times . But will always have some recollection to any items mentioned.

Ann, Ros is going to a class for jewelry making on 8th March. £30.00 for a days tuition. Is that too much ???? She has had a lot of stuff come this morning from QVC beads, thread, books with instructions.

I meant to tell you all that I bought a new kind of Pears Soap the other day. It is Pear's Oil-clear with Lemon Flower extract and is a beautiful sea green colour. Smells nice but I hav'nt tried it yet.
It is also Dermatologist Tested.

So will see how it is in the shower I think.

Hi Frank & everyone else,
I come from Leeds & I am 45 years young :-)
Maybe the Alpine pop was just a local company.
Enjoying reading all your tales . x

Frank

Frank Report 23 Feb 2012 12:36

Oh, another young one for my collection. You are younger than my own two children. The same age as Ros's oldest, our Gransons dad and two years older than her youngest. You will get use to hearing me refering to them (if you stay with us)

I think you might be right about the pop man. Dosen't ring a bell with me.

.
We had the milkman TED with his horse Molly. the bakers horse and cart, coalman, who we would run behind and pinch lumps of coal from his cart.!!!
I was a right little Bugg## Youngest of 10 with a twin sister. a pair of older twins, a brother 7 years older than me on the same day. The eldest were from Mums previous mariiage The oldest 21 years older than me. Didn't know about that till I was 22 years old.

It's surprising that you don't ofter hear of divorces back in the 20/30s It seemed it wasn't the done thing "You made your bed now lay in it" was the old saying. My mum often used the phrase, about other people. :-D :-D :-D

Sitting here in a pair of shorts, bare chested. as you guessed Jane. Don't want to go into the garden yet. Still very chesty and heady. If the weather continues might get out there at the weekend. Sun is shining now.

Ros is at Tesc#, I didn't fancy it. Had a shower and shave instead.

All set for Monday William, Hope the decoration looks O.K. Don't want that falling off, it might damage the floor :-D :-D :-D What do you buy for a lady of eighty.??? A young man of Forty. LOL LOL

See you later.

Afternoon everyone,

Welcome to the thread Flowers ,nice to see you.
I don't think i've heard of that fizzy pop either ,i think as you say it might have been just your way of the country .

We had the Corona man and the baker ,he would run !! he had his big basket over his arm and ran round all the houses ,we had the laundry man,he came and collected the sheets ,when they came back they had that little stripy bit of fabric stuck on them ,i don't know if it had a number on or some thing !! and a piece of paper pinned on with a safety pin , and we had the fish man on a friday .

Lovely warm day here ,been to As*a this morning , there was some pretty baby clothes ,i could have spent a fortune in there , but i was very good and only looked this time !!

That soap sounds good Mel, i like the lemony ones , i bought a bar of soap from Lid*'s the other week ,thought it would do just for hubby when he's been outside ,it stinks !!!!!! that went in the bin !! can you still buy Cam*y ? i haven't seen any for months ,i use to like that one .

Think i might go out side and do a bit in the garden , got to watch my back though .

Beautiful sunny day here, if this is what's to come, can't wait for Spring to arrive, walked into S.Harrow to the bank, it's about a mile or more, so done my exercise for today.

It's funny, living so close to Heathrow, RAF Northolt and the American air base we hardly ever get planes going over, their flight paths must by- pass us, I only notice a plane if I look up, never hear them.

I used to work for the Sales Director of Corona in the the head office which was all part of Beecham's seems like another lifetime ago.

Was going to get in the garden but it's a bit late to start anything now.

Hi Flowers, I don't remember that pop either, but no-one has mentioned Hoyes pop, which is what we got in these parts so maybe that was just sold locally too. The Hoyes factory was a few roads away from where I lived when we first moved to Leicester and I would pass it on the way to school. You could see the bottles on the conveyers through the windows......what a clatter you could hear too when the doors were open.

That new Pears soap sounds interesting Mel.....let us know what it is like. :-D

Frank, the cost of Ros's class for the day sounds very reasonable to me......some in these parts are as much as £89, but lunch is provided. Our teacher thinks that is far too much! :-0 I get some stuff off ebay, but there are a lot of good sites with a huge range.......'tis like being in a sweetie shop.....spoiled for choice!!

Well, the car showed 19 degrees today and I was boiling!! I think OH's car aircon needs regassing again as I ended up with the window open.

There was a horsedrawn milk float still operating in MIL's road until I was in my 20s. The chap didn't half shout at the poor animal, no wonder it always looked dejected poor thing. I can remember an ironmongers van coming round too with pans and brushes hanging up. We had a mobile chippy for a while too.

Afternoon all

Had a busy 2 days, Wednesday out with friends in the morning and babysitting in the afternoon, SIL late coming home last night and by the time the family had all gone, I had a rotten headache so went for a bath and an early bed.

This morning I had to go into Glasgow by train to look for some waterproof spray for OH cycling clothes, all the Outdoor / sport shops have disapeared in our town, and there's only 1 cycling shop in Glasgow that sells it. so of course I had to have a nose about the shops for myself while I was there. had lunch another shop then back on the train, bought a couple of dresses in Dor*thy Per*ins in the sale
