Yes Jax !!

Things have changes a lot recently!

I used to believe in 'Customer Loyalty' but nowadays there is no such thing.

You really HAVE to change from one Company to another every year on all your bills. - It is the only way!

Very often, like you, you return to the same Company a year later but only because they give you a far better deal.

It seems that all Company's nowadays have deals for new Customers and the 'regular ones' pay so you DO have to leave them for a year or so order to get the 'new customer' deal when you go back.

Rediculous really but that is how it is nowadays!!!

we celebrated our 44th in August

are you as young as that, our Gins? ;-)

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 3 Oct 2011 17:52

we stick with the same insurance company/ies over here.

Car insurance ............... there is a provincial-run scheme that you HAVE to have, it covers basic insurance ........... and so far as we can see (although other provinces say otherwise), it provides the coverage at comparable rates. Then various companies offer extra coverage .................. all of them offer loyalty credits of one form or another. OH has renewd with the same one, BCAA (ie a connection with the AA) for about 43 years .............. and currently gets rate exemptions for clean driving, age, distance driven to work, and loyalty. I think it amouns to around 40% discount

House insurance is also with BCAA ......... very comparable rates, discount for having it with the same company, no claims (until the generator this year), fire hydrant across the street, smike alarms, alarm system, etc.

It really doesn't pay us to move around ............. although we do occasinally compare.

Mind you, we also don't these incredible high increase that you seem to get.

I should be able to resume doing breakfasts perhaps by the weekend

I still have only limited movement with my left arm ......... and so lifting the pans is not easy, especially with all that bacon that Dea and I eat. :-D

I also have a limit on weight lifted to 5 kg/10 lb for the next 6 weeks or so

The drain is coming out this morning, and that means I can start doing the exercises for mobility ........ which should be a little better by the weekend.

Meanwhile, you can look forward to a HUGE meal on Sunday!

Monday Oct 11 is Thanksgiving here in Canada (a month later in the US).

OH and I usually have our Thanksgiving dinner on the day ............... but a lot of people serve it on the day before

which is what I will do for you guys

so work up your appetites! :-D :-D

OOhhh - Lovely Sylvs !!

I am SO pleased that drain is coming out today !!!

You will be able to shower, which I am sure will be difficult but will make you feel SO much better !!!

It will be nice to have you back at breakfast time too, though Persie has looked after us most of the time in your absence!

I will do us something tomorrow morning as she is away!

I am REALLY looking forward to that 'special' meal on Sunday :-D

DO take care though, these things take time!!!

Lie about my age....how very dare you Ja..x

You all know how old I am...you have bad memories, I guess its the age!

I was a toddler when Syl got married

Insurers, what a rip off bunch they are, as bad as the banks me thinks.

Direct line wanted £1200 last year at renewal for home and buildings so I swapped to More Than......£245

....got a quote through the post last week from Direct Line and the premium has come down to just over £300!

I have made an appointment to have my hair washed and dried this afternoon :-)

Gee

Gee Report 3 Oct 2011 19:20

Ah bless Syl....it will be out soon x

Hair wash day...hooray. Its horrid having unwashed hair as it makes you feel like a scruff.....not that youre a scruff Syl

That said I only wash mine about three times a week as washing too often causes damage and grease. The more you clean your scalp the more grease it produces

Jonesey

Jonesey Report 3 Oct 2011 19:32

Another thing worth keeping your eye on is renewal of your motoring help cover provided by organisations such as the RAC. Mine (Family cover) became due for renewal on 26th September. They sent me a letter at the end of August saying that the renewal cost would be £99.50 less "Membership Savings" of £8.65, total payable £90.85. No need for any action, they would debit my card.

I rang them and pointed out that I could get comparable cover from their competitors for considerably less. A bit of argy bargy later and we agreed a price of £63.35. The cheeky so and so I was talking to said,"You rang us last year to argue the price". My reply was, "Yes because you tried to rip me off then as well, do so again next year and I won't bother ringing, I'll go straight to your competitors."

Evenin' all. Been quite a long day what with grandchildren etc. The weather turned out absolutely beautiful despite a grey start.

I didn't compare the car insurance this year.....I think I was a bit hassled at the time....really must remember to do so.

Ja...x, do let us know which Meercat you get...I have Alexander which my OH bought me for Christmas last year.

Sorry about your drain Sylvs..............hope it comes out asap. Anyone who didn't know what we were talking about may be thinking....Dynarod!!!

jax Report 3 Oct 2011 20:35

My insurance was with RAC when I rang to cancel she then said Oh I will look to see if we can do it cheaper....too late already took the Saga one after I saw a RAC comparison £300 less than they were trying to charge me

My car only did 300 miles last year but at least I can get in and out of it

My breakdown cover comes free with the bank account not that I have ever had to use it

Just been asked to look for some family of a 98 year old lady who never knew anything about her mums family who died when she was 4...I better get a move on :-)

Regarding hair washing !

I wash mine every day or I feel 'scruffy'

As Ginns said though:

The more you clean your scalp the more grease it produces!

I saw a programme on Television a few years ago which carried out an experiment on this - they got several people to volunteer to not wash their hair for several weeks (I think 6 weeks or so - It may have been longer ?) - they then came back on the programme wearing towels on their heads and when they took them off - their hair looked beautiful - It was said that if you didn't wash it, it got greasier, BUT, if you continued, it gradually got used to the situation and reverted to normal.

I am sure there will be details of this study on the net somewhere!

Anyway, in the meanwhile - I will continue to wash mine daily!

Why is your insurance so high then Gins? have you got points or had an accident?

I dont wash my hair as often as I used too as its hard work...maybe I will get it all chopped off
