I hand delivered some cards under cover of darkness this evening. :-D

I was a noggin when I first used these boards. Kept watching the board roll over and wondering how some 'messages' had over a thousand replies in that short space of time and no one had answered mine..............doh....... :-(

I also used to go back and scroll through the board to find my post - I didn't know about My Threads. :-S

and before Gins gets the chance......

yes

I'm still a noggin.... :-D :-D

AmazingGrace08 Report 14 Dec 2011 22:08

Morning all...

Yesterday I posted that I was going to try and track down any family members of a stack of photographs etc. that I had purchased from a clearing auction.

Well my first discovery was that two of the postcards photo things were of an actress. I made contact with someone on A..y and they have sid that she is their second cousin, so no probs I can mail those off.

BUT...I must be having a stupid week and I cannot find anyone else...

Does anyone, for instance have any ideas how I could go about tracing the following person:

I have a baptism certificate for a Job Matthews, baptised March 28...something Day (I can't read that) and then someone has written 1880. It is signed by a C H something, Vicar of Bickley and is for a Catholic church.

I don't have any experience in searching for London people..any ideas?

I lot of the documents I have seem to relate to a John Henry Matthews,
or a Tilly surname unknown. There are a lot of pretty cards and postcards to TIlly from mother in Bromley Kent and a nice card from a N Mummery. They are pretty old I would guess maybe very early 1900's or a bit later. I am not sure how to date cards and postcards. I would assume that they must have emigrated out to Victoria at some stage...

It just seems a shame that such old things well over 100 years ended up with a stranger.

There is also a load of things for a William Andrews & Sons, Ironmongers, Beechworth, Victoria, I can trace some of the family but haven't found anyone with them in a tree or anything. Do you think if I contacted the family history group there that they would want the dockets? They are all from the period 1880 through to 1895.

Any ideas....I seem to have lost all my thinking processes lately :-(

Gracie,

Why don't you put it up on GR or Ancestry threads on Facebook... as not just GR people etc see these and it might reach a larger audience.

I must do something about my speed reading... I read Vicar of Dibley instead of Bickley. :-) :-)

Hi Persie, I will do that, but I knwo that everyone in this group knows a lot more than me, so I thought I would try here first!
