Left the coffee flask and bacon sarnie at home by accident but a grateful patient gave us a £20.00 tip specifically for lunch as we spent ages with her OH. I will remember next week though. :-D

I have been using powerline adapters for about 3 years now and they are indeed a good way to run a network throughout the home without the need for cabling. Although I have a Wifi router there are some rooms in the house where the Wifi signal being received is too weak to ensure uninterrupted continuous connection.

Just one snag with your plan however. With just 2 adapters you can only use the house electrical circuit to transmit the internet to one remote device such as a computer, Xbox ect. One of your adapters (The transmitter) is connected by network cable to your router and then plugged into a power socket close to the router. The second adapter (A receiver) is then plugged into a power socket close to your second device and a network cable connects that adapter to the device. That is why what you have purchased is called a starter kit.

If you wish to connect more devices to your network you need to purchase additional adapters + cables and use them as additional receivers, plugging them into power sockets close to the additional devices and connecting them to the device by network cable.

For example at home we currently have a setup using 5 adapters. The transmitter adapter which is in the hall by the router. One adapter is in my study for my computer, another adapter is in the spare bedroom where Mrs J has her computer and 2 adaptors are in our sons bedroom, one for his computer and the other for his Xbox.

The adapters I use have a transfer rate of 200bps (The ones you have ordered, a faster 500bps transfer rate) which is adequate for our needs as all of us can be using the internet on our computers at the same time without any drop-out problems.

Isn't modern technology wonderful. :-D

I must say I liked Jaxs cafe persie and quite fancied the prime rib...why have I never seen it in England?

The best steaks I have ever had have been in Vegas and the prime rib at the Mirage was to die for yum yum

I had an excellent ham steak in Savannah Georgia. I have also had a couple of decent steaks there. But some of their roadhouses would do a minced up chicken or veal concoction and shape them like chops... cover them in crumbs and cook them... then there was the instant potato... they would hollow it out with a soup ladle and pour gravy on it... these were at the bus stop cafes when I traveled by Greyhound bus.

I watch a load of rubbish late at night and have been watching this American program called Diners,Drive ins and Dives do you get that?

Some of the food looks ok but most look like everything they can think of thrown on, which would make a terrible mess trying to eat it. Gravy is a white sauce over there, where as ours is brown.

Having worked in a few restuarants I found it amusing when Americans came in and ordered a Prawn cocktail or prawn skewers between them as they thought they were going to get some huge plate of food. Having been to the states I had to tell them this was not the case :-D

Whats a Ham steak is it like Gammon or like the Ham you get on a breakfast dish?

I had already had a look at your one Sylvs and she looked nothing like you...

and saw the other one and thought I would do that tomorrow..

Jax... to me Ham steak is like gammon... the one I had in Georgia was very thick and it had a T bone in it... I was impressed..

I use British Gammon recipes sometimes when I have cooked ham steaks.. there is one that has a pineapple and corn sauce which my father-in-law rather liked.

When I was a teenager here in NZ Chinese restaurants would just serve you one big plate of whatever you ordered.. you could not get little dishes of this and that. So while others ate a plate full of Nasi Goreng or whatever I would have a ham steak and salad. I prefer where you share and pass the plates around etc... we were so behind the times.

The Sylvia Hotel is a lovely old hotel

when we first came here, it was the place to go if you wanted a quiet drink in a comfy bar ............ most other bars were the "gunslinger" beer parlours that you see in old movies

............ the servers would dump the glasses of beer on the table and hope none of them spilled!

If one person at the table wanted another beer ......... everyone got one.

One night I ended up with 6 beers lined up in front of me!


I don't drink more than half a one ......even back then!


But the Sylvia was very civilized!

Ham steak is like your gammon ........ but you never get pineapple with it.

the US has some weird and wonderful dishes ..... and HUGE meals.


Canada has many more British-style meals in their diners and drive-ins

Liver and onions is a very common meal to find up here .......... and it is usually surprisingly good!


One weird thing that you get in Canada is on the Prairies

Practically every Prairie town, not matter how small has a Chinese cafe ..... that dates back to when the railroads were being built across the country and Chinese labourers were brought in to do the dirty work. Some of them would set up a cafe and or a laundry ..... and then stay when the railroad crews move on

But the cafes then began to westernize their dishes, so that the local ranchers etc would come in


so the meals are served not in individual dishes in the middle of the table for you to help yourself, but each person will be served a plate containing everything they have ordered .... so you'll have chow mein, fried rice, prawns, sweet and sour pork, etc, all on the same plate



and then they pour GRAVY over it all :-S :-S :-S :-S

In one of our city streets the Chinese ran their opium dens in early Auckland.. There were also a lot of Chinese lived in Arrowtown etc for the gold mining and lived in some terrible shantys... and when the sun went down in the gully there it could even be buddy cold in the summer.

A friend of mine... her grandfather was one of the Chinese in Auckland's notorious past...she is the eldest of four girls and remembers going there as a child.

I will put a variety of Chinese foods on my plate but I don't pour gravy over them...

I will have a morning glory muffin... no idea what it is but sounds nice...

A lot of them it seems!


The first one I opened made me blink - it seems as though the food served there is of a ......er........um........sensuous nature :-S


Second one was a gay bar with a robot called Cynthia who serves the drinks :-S


I gave up after that! ;-)



I have a vague idea of what Jonesey is on about - simply because my daughter has gone on about weak signals etc.etc. Let's hope Gins doesn't miss the advice in her normal morning rush...........
