I am one of the guilty ones who accidently posted twice when i thought I,d closed my original thread . thenI thought i,d be better to seperate my original request for info about unmarried ggrandma +father into 2 seperate threads as it would be different research , How does that sit with searching ethhics ? Some people are bound to make mistakes when using threads for !st time .Thanks for putting out that reminder

Dea

Dea Report 18 May 2012 20:32

Glad you found it helpful Alisoun.

I noticed your threads and saw that you had been given good advice regarding them and had acted upon it!

Well done for responding. :-)

We do indeed, all have to learn!

I was also guilty of such things when I first started :-(

Just take advice and read the other threads until you find your way around - we are all happy to help you if we can.

Welcome to the boards.

Best wishes,

Dea Xxx

P.S. - It is not the 'searching ethics' that are the problem, it is just that when you start a thread on a particular person or family, in order to help you find the answers, we do not just 'go and find it'!

What we do is to look at that person and try to follow them through all the census's, look at all the other family members, explore births, deaths and marriages etc. in order to try to get to know the family so that any info we find can be checked against all these things to be as sure as we can that the info we are giving you is correct.

If then you start a new thread on the same person, or on a close family member, people will do these same searches all over again when in fact all this had already been done and was probably on the first thread for all to see.

This is where the problem lies as people are wasting their time finding it all over again when, if it was all kept together, they would see it all at a glance.

This makes things much easier for us and you, in turn, will probably receive your info much sooner.

Hope this helps you to understand.

Hi Alisoun

Dont worry, we all have to learn, and this thread is not about you

Its just that new posters dont undertand that posting twice, makes for duplicate research

You can come out of the 'naughty corrner'

OH had the car in for service about 10 days ago. They said there was more to be done, so he took it in today

Just over $1,000 (say around £450) to add to the $700 (ca $300) 10 days ago. GULP!

OH says it was time for a major service ................. it's a 2006 model, and we have around 93,400 km on it.

PLUS .......... the mechanic found signs that some small animal had found a cozy place to sleep in a rather inaccessible place around the engine ............. droppings etc .............. AND attempts to chew wires.

Looks like it was a squirrel ............ and probably happened while we've been up at the cabin.

OH has to clean out the mess with the vacuum cleaner, and then take it back in to have the affected wiring replaced.
