OH came back yesterday from 4 days helping with his sister. Now it is just a matter of waiting for the end.

She is being kept comfortable, and pain-free. She requested to die in her own home, and the local hospice is helping with her care. It sounds as if it is all superb!

Morning all,

Just popped in to say hello while OH is picking up No 1 GD from nursery.

On Monday they phoned her Nan (DIL's mum) to come and pick her up as she was upset. She was cold cos their heating was broken!!

The building must have been freezing after a 2 week break they should have closed it.

Yesterday and today she was teary and clingy but must have settled as we didn't get a call :-(

Off to make lunch no babystitting till Friday :-D

Linds,

That is not good! - I am sure there are rules in place with regard to minimum temperatures required in places where small children are looked after.

They should not have had them there with no heating! :-0

I hope she settles back down again there soon, AND that the heating is now working.!!!

Grand-daughter had a friend over for a visit the other week and her mother picked her up from their house afterwards.

They were both quite 'oriental looking' but not obviously chinese or japanese. Son was a bit curious as to where they originated and so asked grand-daughter where 'J' came from. (They are quite good at the school and follow these places on the map and grand-daughter knows she has classmates from Nigeria, China, India, Australia etc. so he expected her to know).

She replied that her friend was English so son said that perhaps her mother was from another country?

'Russia' replied grand-daughter! - That didn't quite seem right and then grand-daughter remembered that it was her father that was from Russia which seemed to make more sense. Son said that perhaps her mother was from Korea??

Anyway, the other day grand-daughter came home SO excited saying 'dad' - 'I know where 'J's mother comes from!!' - 'Where' said dad?? and grand-daughter proudly announced...........

..............WIGAN !!!

Well, as you can imagine, son had to stifle his hysterics as grand-daughter questioned him on where Wigan was and what was so funny about her reply.... all he could tell her was that it was about 2 hours up the road!! ;-) :-D :-D :-D :-D

Perhaps you know her Cynths ???

Hi all

it's drizzling here ...... and the temperature is very mild, at around 7C

That's while most of the rest of the country is having very low temperatures.

Weird!

we went out to dinner last night, just to our local bistro

it was my birthday, and our "tradition" is that the birthday person is taken out to a restaurant that we have never been to, and usually that is an expensive one

But, I just didn't feel like a slap-up meal.

So we went to the bistro, and I had a lovely lamb shank with roast potatoes, asparagus, carrots, broccoli, and a delicious dark gravy. It was wonderful :-D

This afternoon, I go to the dermatologist to have the basal cell cancer on my shin scraped off. I'm not looking forward to that!

Hi,

I am expecting the next couple of days to be a bit stressful.

You may recall that my No1 son was diagnosed with a heart condition (WPW Syndrome) last April. Basically this is a second electrical contact pathway within the heart which causes an erratic and sometimes chaotic heartbeat.

Since then and now this has been controlled with Beta Blocker drugs taken daily but the doctors have decided that it is preferable to take more positive action. So he will be admitted at the Q.E Hospital in Birmingham tomorrow morning to have a procedure known as Ablation carried out. Basically this involves wires being passed into the heart via an artery in the groin. Once there the ends of the wires are heated by radio frequency and this heat "Ablates", (Destroys) the second electrical pathway. The procedure is carried out with the patient under general anaesthetic and usually takes anywhere between 3 and 5 hours.

Although the procedure is relatively low risk and is usually 100% successful, as any parent would be, I shall be on edge until he is safely through it and back home once again.

Wishing your son all the best with the procedure later today

We'll all be keeping our fingers crossed for him, and for you
