A slow cooker is what you need for your casserole, my dad bought one of those halegen ovens dont think he ever found out how to use it, chicken looked nice in the picture though.

Will it not light with a match?

Yes, you've got to plan in advance when you're going to use them. If you cut pieces smaller you can have a nice casserole in about 4 hours with mine.

I've seen some newer ones with variable temperature dials but I think that's defeating the object, thought the slo-o-owness was the whole point for making meat tender.

My gas cooker has never had an ignition thingy ever, did they make them with one in the 60s???

Always have one of those clicker things you fill with gas, rather like a lighter but with a long metal thing sticking out which the flame comes out of...

As Jax says..Whats wrong with lighting it with a match or lighter??

Doesnt want to cook really, thats what the real excuse is

I have a slow cooker - which is basically a enamel non stick pan with glass lid - and it has it's own hot plate it sits on - I have had it for about 15 years !

It is great cause you can start everything of - on the hob

Brown the meat - ect - add veg add stock and bring to boil - all on the hob

Then stick on to it's little hot plate - and forget about it

It makes the best Venision hot pot. - Ever

I would never be without it

I remember when I had my first gas cooker rather basic not connected to electric at all, when ignition went found out it was because it was run by a couple of batteries.

I will have you know that Cyns has not had a takeaway but used the grill.

Anyway, for the last 3+ hours I have been sitting in the local A&E with daughter who seems to have a frozen shoulder or summat. She was carrying on so much about the pain that I took her there as I had had enough!

As for slow cookers, I bought my daughter one for Christmas because she tends to struggle with meals and I thought it would be easy for her. The first thing she said on opening it was....I didn't WANT a slow cooker! Hey ho, such is life with AS folk.

Will use my pressure cooker tomorrow Dea.

It has been such a looooooooong day and I am cream crackered as you can imagine.

Slow cooker is the only thing I can use if HID prepares it puts it in fridge then all I have to do is turn it on
