Hi Renes, It's an extremely painful condition where the shoulder sort of freezes and arm movement is restricted. I had it a few years ago but was very fortunate that they gave me a cortisone injection which was fantastic. She has been told to keep it moving rather than rest it.

Very painfull like it has just locked. The physio I saw said they could put me under and manipulate it....did'nt fancy that.

I've been doing exercises for a couple of years (when I remember that is!!) to help prevent a frozen shoulder

............... I hurt my shoulder doing something (who knows what?!), and my physio believes that if you then stop using your arm to protect against the pain, a frozen shoulder becomes almost inevitable .......................... so he gave me these exercises to do.

you got a message C!

You must be really tired Cynthia. I find hospitals very draining even when I'm just visiting. Hope your daughters shoulder gets better soon

I have just been showing MIL how to search on ancestry freebmds etc... And how to order Certs.... I have said I will just copy her tree to her computer to start her off but she does not want that, she is trying to help her cousins as favour because her great great grandmother was Manx. She has been getting a real thrill finding great aunts.

Rens

I'm really grateful to my MIL. She lives with me. She used to be a hairdresser and had a salon in London in the 60's 70's. She did the hair of the actress who played Nancy in Oliver, so I never go to the hairdressers. She then had her own painting and decorating business so I have never had to decorate.

And when necessary she helps me with OH.

I think I got the best deal.

On the subject of a frozen shoulder I have had two and a whole lot of fun they ain't.

With the first one I had manipulation under anaesthetic (MUA) which itself was not too traumatic but it was only after I came round that they told me it would hurt like hell for a week or so afterwards, they did not lie! That was followed by physio which degenerated into a farce so I stopped attending. I decided to "invent" my own exercises and I found the most effective to be "Wall walking". Stand an arms length in front of a wall and "Walk" up the wall with your hands alternatively raising them an inch or so at a time. Obviously initially the affected arm is restricted and painful but push on and you will find that on each successive day you are able to move it higher than you could the day before. Eventually (In my case, about a week) you completely break the adhesion and you can raise your affected arm above your head once more.

The second time I recognised the onset of a second frozen shoulder (The other shoulder this time) I started the exercise straight away and in a relatively short period of time I was back to normal movement again.

A frozen shoulder is a strange affliction and medical opinion is divided on what actually causes the condition. Some say it is the result of a physical trauma, others, a psychological trauma and others, a immune system disorder. Whatever its cause it is bloody painful and apart from the pain the restriction of movement causes its own problems. In my case I had to change from a car with a manual gearbox to one with automatic as I could not change gear.

Well what an exciting time you have all been having. And this frozen shoulder stuff.....is this the latest craze!

Ate sooo much last I couldbt move all night...........going for lunch today and then need to make our way back before the temp drops over the pass

Is there any snow lurking around?

Cynthia

Cynthia Report 9 Jan 2011 14:26

Thanks Jonesey. She was told to 'walk' up the wall with her hands and to push against the wall etc. She also has Fibromyalgia and Asperger's Syndrome so the medical opinions are interesting. Her pain threshold isn't very high and she can make a drama out of crisis quite quickly so I have to be alert as to what is and what is not a crisis! Fortunately she doesn't drive but I can remember my difficulties in changine gear when my shoulder was affected.

No use coming in half way through Gins or you will lose the plot! As if!!!

Having a lazy afternoon after all the riotous excitement of last night!

Photos will be uploaded soon so you can get to see what I look like. Just sorting through some for the family tree and when I'm happy will put them up.

If I put photos on Facebook can I set it so only friends and family can see? Apart from the one attached to profile

jax

jax Report 9 Jan 2011 14:51

Cyn
There was talk recently on the MS site about frozen shoulder and MS being conected but it was dismissed . I'm sure there must be a connection with these sort of conditions as they seem so common, cold sores were another common ailment

Yes do "friends only" - not friends of friends - assume your family are all friends !!

I have set every option there is to "Friends Only" otherwise with friends of friends - there is an unending chain

Gins did a good link on FB which I followed and secured my page

I created an account to double check and I could not see anything - apart from - as you say profile - which is why a lot of people put baby photos up

I have also ( using Gins links ) ticked somewhere to mot accept friends request - but cannot/do not want to correct it as I may change something else inadvertently

Can't wait to have a good look - especially any babies - love babies and where you live - type photos
