I will say 'So he should !!' too !

Every since I have had all my health problems - my husband has been there EVERY time !! - No matter what !!

He drove me to the hospital holding my head when I was crying with the pain with my last serious problem! - I don't know how he did it but he wouldn't let me go anywhere on my own for ages !

That is what a 'marriage' or 'partnership' is all about - supporting each other no matter what !!

Just glad she is O.k. ! - when does she get her results?

C

we've had a couple of small outages a year recently, usually when we've been out, so we only notice it because the clocks are slow

......... but the last time we had one that was as fast and affected so many houses was about 15 or more years ago.

I do know I was alone, so it might have been around 1993 when OH and J were in NZ .................... that's when I decided to keep a torch in each room, having always having one by the bed for years.

I also travel with a small torch if I'm going to be staying overnight anywhere ............. a close friend gave me that tip.

I have a drawerful of candles ..... I did discover that previous time that those very thick candles do't give out much light 'cos the wick sinks down inside the wax as it burns. Look great, but not much light!

I had however hidden away most of the candle sticks!

This outage seems to have been due to a switch sticking in one of the relay stations.

I wonder how Fans is getting on - hope she is O.K. !!

I have candles in every room so if the light go out....

A tourch in every room sounds a good idea though Sylv....I have one at the back door but may be getting more!

Do you have blackouts a lot then?

Dea

Dea Report 17 Jan 2011 19:27

I have several torches throughout the house but unfortunately, whenever they are needed, I find that the batteries have been in there SSooo long that they have gone flat !!

I DO have lots of candles though (left over from all the problems in the early 70's (I think) ??

Gins

not really .................... but I learnt a lesson in that outage that happened when I was on my own.

I had to grope my way through to the ktichen where I knew I had a small torch in a drawer, and then I could go on to light the candles.

They are only small torches that I have, don't cost much, but are enough to light one's way around, go to the loo etc

I do check most of them about every 3-6 months to make sure that they still work.

We have some much larger ones in the basement that OH uses when working in dark places ..................... the main turn-off tap for the water for example is in the back corner of a big cupboard down there.

Nowt like getting hold of a big spider to make you use a good torch!

Dea

Dea Report 17 Jan 2011 20:00

OOerrggghhhh Sylvs !!!

I would NOT like to get hold of a big spider - especially the big ones that you have over there !!!!!!!!!!!

I will go out and buy more torches and batteries first thing in the morning!!!!!

You have REALLY scared me now !!!!!!!!!!!!!

OOOOhhh Yuuuukkkkyyyy Spiders !!!!!!!!!

My husband was once doing some d-i-y work in our bedroom - A BIG spider appeared on our bed so, hammer in hand - he walloped it !!

100's of tiny red baby spiders spiled oput, all over the quilt. !!

I had to strip it all off and boil it AND vacuum the carpet and everything else in sight !!!

I didn't feel 'clean' for years afterwards !!!

Since I spoke to you I have cycled round an island and been ten pin bowling.

I DO hope you are all impressed with me!!

Mind you, I was playing on my daughter's Wii. lolo

Had to drop OH off somewhere so nipped round to test out her birthday prezzie.

Hey Renes........sounds like you had a fab time. It would be very interesting to meet up but we would probably have to miss our Sylvs out

unless

of course

she is

planning

a trip to the UK???????

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 17 Jan 2011 21:41

I may be could be persuaded

................... although I swore on Friday that I was NEVER going to go by plane ever again

82-year-old lady went to airport in Calgary, for a flight to Vancouver. Went through that security gate, and it pinged. She had a metal pin in her leg.

So they sent her to go through one of the new body scans (don't know if you have them in the UK yet?)

She had said she didn't have any gels or liquids ......... but suddenly heard one of the scanner watchers shout "She's lying!"

They subjected her to a full, fully intrusive pat-down ....... and made her display the prosthesis she was wearing as a result of a mastectomy years ago.

She hadn't thought it necessary to mention it.

Neither have I, in the past

But these new scanners and the pat-downs are getting really really intrusive here.
