I've looked at page 724 and I'm none the wiser. I thought I knew but I don't think I really do.

Thank you both ---I am a numpty

I did look at the census page and took the W to read M -- for married -- when in actual fact there are two other things I should have noticed

a) the abbreviation used by census taker was Mar

b) I knew her mother was a widow -- else I could not have read the will her dead husband made 6 years before
