Pat,
Thomasina the cat. That was the name of a cat in a film that my daughter loved to watch. It starred Patrick McGohan(Spl) and was filmed in Inverary, Argyll

Stephen I saw The three lives of Thomasina when I was 7 years old. I never forgot that film. The cat in the film was ginger but my Thomasina was black and white!

It's always seems a long drawn out thing with stones etc Yvonne doesn't it. The hospitals and doctors are never sure what way to treat them. And lets be honest none of us have very much patience, waiting to be a patient in hospital. Lets hope they decide what to do soon. Night Night god bless Yvonne.
Night Night Pat, sleep tight.

I thought that was a lovely poem Stephen thank you for sharing that with us. I have just been speaking to my eldest son MIKE who had his Kidney removed in January because he had Cancer. tomorrow he has another operation on his good kidney to remove the renal gland it is essantial. he now wears a SOS bracklet and carries a blue steriods card about with him.and a survial kit . so please think of him tomorrow in your thoughts. He is naturally very worried. the operation is not as long as the last one but we have our fingers crossed that they find his other Kidney in good working order.

Jean, what a breakfast, I feel full up at the thought of it. Morning everyone, sunny here today, and the wind has dropped. I was just watching the news and it said Obama's security guards covered the palace windows with their own bullit proof glass incase there was an attempt on his life, they must be worried. Having my ear syringed at 3.30 this afternoon, it is blocked, it makes me wonder what will come out. Have a good day everyone. :D <3 :D ;-)

Morning all
Thank you Pauline and Stephen for your kind thought for my Michael. I am on edge this morning and will feel better when it is over. and he is OK after this operation. do you know what he was worried about his job he loves being a paramedic I dont know what will happen now as he will never be able to lift people as he has been doing.
I saw the news that said about the body guards covering the windows at Buckingham Palace. I wonder what the Queen must have thought. ?
Have a good day. Rita

The Fairy Child.
‘Our sweetest songs are those that tell of saddest thought‘. (Percy Bysshe Shelley).
As a result of recent requests from my fans on this thread - both of them - I’d like to relay a little tale as I remember it told by my dad in front of an open peat-turf fire on cold winter evenings, in the dark countryside of east Co Mayo. That was long before a television set entered our home. Come to think of it, electricity in the area was relatively ‘new’ at the time - so now you know where I’m coming from! Begorrah!
I have recently seen alternative versions on the Net but I’ll restrict my narrative of this sad & strange story to my very limited memories of the early 1950s. The story itself is fairly short - so, don’t blink or you’ll miss it. If you are not completely satisfied, your money will be refunded. This does not affect your legal rights. The ‘best before date’ is not relevant. So, here goes.
Oh, by the way, I haven’t bothered to seek a super-injunction to prevent its reproduction on Twitter or elsewhere. MPs & their ilk are free to peruse it if they have nothing better to do, after having completed their claims expenses forms. I have no objection to my name being mentioned in the House of Commons either. In fact, the whole Manchester United team are very welcome to have a gawk at this gentle diatribe. So there!
In the Irish folklore, there was the belief in fairies & fairy children. What’s new! This related to where a baby was born perfectly normal as far as the parents were concerned. Everyone was very happy & the mother continued to do her daily household duties.
Suddenly one day, she looked into the cradle & was astonished that the child had changed. The belief was that such a child was a fairy child & the original child was taken away by the fairies. Some say that you can easily recognise a fairy child because they show signs of a beard growing. The same applied to baby boys too.
On Slievemore, the highest peak on Achill Island, off the Mayo coastline, there was such a fairy child. On the side of the peak, there was a famous landmark surrounded by trees & was considered to be a fairy palace or fairy fort. It would be a brave or foolhardy person who fell asleep within its confines.
This child was born near Slivermore & my dad’s aunt told him the story. The child never grew nor learned to walk or talk & it was left in the cradle for many years. Suddenly, one day, someone called at the house & said: “The fairy fort is on fire!” With that, the child in the cradle jumped up & flew out through the open door, heading in the direction of the fort where the fire was taking place & was never seen again.
There was also a tradition that anyone milking cows by hand in the vicinity of a fairy fort would, on finishing the task, dip their thumb in the bucket of milk & the trace the sign of the cross on the cow’s udder. Everyone practiced the custom - I did it myself. It claimed to protect the cow from the fairies.
As children, we were sometimes warned by our parents to be good otherwise the fairies would come during the night & take us away. I suspect awful things like this being said to us as youngsters made me what I am today - old, bald, over-weight, forgetful, continually pestering the local bus company with free travel passes & keeping an eye on the beautiful ladies who pass by. But then, so is my immediate neighbour who was raised in totally different circumstances. All he had to worry about as a child was Hitler’s doodle-bugs.
Anyway, there you have it. Wasn’t much of a tale, was it? A little better than the baby swapping outrage in Eastenders perhaps. I tried my best.
