Stephen why do they call Porriage Oats Quaker Oats as it is all confusing to an old lady like myself wondered if it could be todo with my Great Grandmothers ancestors who were Quakers or is it the name of the manufacturers.?

Morning All,

Wow ....Jean has been out shopping for NEW cups, I like those Jean ...Posh !!

I was lazy this morning got up at 9-30am, but it was lovely ..LOL

The Sun is out although it did rain during the night, don't think we have the same weather as Maddie says in London ......are you there in the gloom as Maddie says
Shelly ??????
Forgot the reason why Shelly is hibernating is because its half term and the boys are home .......

I'm out tonight for dinner at friends, so looking forward to that.

Rita...... I forgot to tell you in my last mail that there are designated opticians for Diabetics for a Eye test. from NHS as the letter stated I had a choice of 3 in my area mostly family owned no large Opticians like specky. So I can only assume they have special equipment ....... or more trustworthy.!!

Off for my bath ......

Excuse me (ME ) I have bone china cups with little rose buds on them a full tea and dinner service.
I have not used it for 20 years Lol. it is in the cupboard.
I use plain china cups with a flower on. my own beaker had musical instruments on all over it. was a present from Scotland from a friend and neighbour.

I am not thinking of writing my Christmas cards out yet Maddie I have written out some birthday cards this morning for next month.

I think everybody has some posh crockery that they don't use. I use china mugs for every day use but I've got my first ever china tea set (wedding present) in a cabinet.........along with my sister's first china tea set and my mam's first one. Mine's the only one that doesn't have anything missing. I never used it because I'm too clumsy. My mam's sister has a cabinet full of china she's never used.......including wedding presents she got when she was 17, she's 92 now.

The weather's not bad today, it's dry and sunny and not really cold. Windy though, thought my washing would have blown off the line while I was out........it didn't.

Still having bother with the wheelchair, think we'll have to get him a new one. It takes ages because it needs lots of special adaptions.

Marilyn
I have no room in my kitchen for my dinner /Tea set because all my cupboard space is taken up.

Pauline I have things mostly glassware given to me as wedding presents when I got married in 1951 some I have used but these are no longer used others have never been used. I dont like to give them away as people who gave them to me are still around even if very old. I often give one of my granddaughters one of them when she is going to buy and I say dont I have one of those you can have it.
.
I have a big crystal fruit bowl on a stand I use that everyday but it is so heavy to lift I need two hands even then it is heavy. but like to see it on my table.

Rita, my aunt has asked me if I want any of her china but I think it should stay in her family, besides............her 3 daughters and 6 granddaughters would be annoyed if they didn't get it.

It'll be lovely for your granddaughters to have something that you've had since your wedding.

There's something funny going on with the site. Whenever I write something. it goes back to page one of the thread. I usually keep it on 'Last Reply' but it won't do it today.

Methinks Telly must be good tonight.................................
.............................

WHERE IS EVERYONE?

Time we had a bit of Mad Nonsense again?

That would liven things up !!!!!

Trick or Treat at Buck House? Do you think HM would dress up and join in.

Perhaps we should ask Dame Shelly to do the approaching. She's probably on first name terms with most of the Royals.

That sounds like fun Stephen. When are we arranging it for. Do we have to write for permission, or do you think her Maj would allow it by word of one of her Dames, ie Shelly. After all once seen never forgotten thats our Shelly.lol

Stephen2009

Stephen2009 Report 27 Oct 2010 19:41

Rita,

Porridge Oats ?

Quaker Oats is just a Brand Name.

If you can get them Scots Porridge Oats are about the best.

'Real' Porridge are fine grains that are best left to soak overnight. No one seems to use them anymore.

In the mountains and the arctic with no milk I normally melted some butter or marg on my porridge. Without either of them then I would use fat. Needed this to keep the cold out and the energy up. Not everyones cup of tea.

In the croft houses, donkeys years ago, the porridge was made, poured into a drawer, then cut out and warmed up as they needed it.

Stephen2009 Report 27 Oct 2010 19:45

Mo,

Lets get Dame Shelly to do it. She's normally about in the wee sma hours !!!!

Halloween might just be the right time for it.

I don't need a Mask....my face usually does just as it is....folk think I'm already wearing a mask.

I wont need the false nose or the warts on my face Stephen, they come naturally. The hairs is in a tangle most of the time, just need to dust my broomstick, and feed the cat, and I will be ready to go at any time.

EVERYONE !

Get the Broomsticks, Cats and Magic Potions ready.

Shake out the Pointed Hats and Flowing Capes, the odd Toad or two, the big black Cauldron etc.

We will frighten the live out of everyone !!!!!!

Trick or Treat......that's childsplay.

We need something a lot more daring than that.

Any suggestions ?
