Well we managed to find somewhere to park at Desford and walked the short distance up the hill to the main road through the village. OH was flabbergasted at the crowds of people along both sides of the road as far as you could see. He thought there wouldn't be many that far from the city. Children were dressed up wearing crowns and carrying shields they'd made and had flags to wave. We managed to get to the front next to the road and the lady next to me who was another shortie had brought one of those small stools that fold up to stand on!! lol. The atmosphere was more joyous than I expected and white roses were being thrown as the hearse came by. It only lasted a few minutes but we were glad we went. Then we went home and watched it all on the telly. :-D We are watching Paul Theroux too, not sure I'd like to have to decide when they are safe to discharge!

I watched the first 2 episodes of Poldark one after the other so that really got me into it. Now I'd watch it just to see the handsome Ross! I must have missed about you going to the cinema Jane, but I often say to OH we shouldn't be sitting in a cinema if it's a nice day. I'll be interested to know how good the 'wet and forget' is on your patio. I want to try some on our block paved drive as the bottom of the drive slopes quite steeply. Pressure washing sends a small river down the road to our neighbour's gutter drain in the road and I worry about our debris blocking it.

I totally agree about some of the parents maybe being so keen on results their children get little time off. It was like that with some on that prog about the gifted children wasn't it. Did you see those parents in India the other day? Their children were sitting exams in a building several floors high and a photo showed the parents had climbed up and were hanging onto the window frames while they tried to help their children doing the exams!!

Oh dear Frank, what a night you had.....they say prawns are a likely culprit so maybe it was a dodgy one of those. Glad you are feeling a bit better now and hope a good night's sleep helps.

I bet that is sore Mel. Keep it nice and clean won't you and stick a glove on if you are in the garden.

That's good your mum is discharged again Gill and is feeling a bit better. It will do her good to stay with you, I imagine Sandra will enjoy having her stay too.

Morning all

I've been awake since 5am so I thought I would check my messages and read all your posts.

I had a house full last night my nephew and his partner and 2 small children were here along with mum Sandra and later on after work my OH so I didn't have much time to read all the post properly last night.

Mum's still asleep so I thought I would come online now before she wakes up to catch up on the thread.

Thank you Frank for your kind offer of sending an email about solid wall insulation. I didn't realise you could get it for free I thought that was just the cavity wall insulation and because I don't have a cavity I've never applied for help with any insulation. It would make a world of difference if I could get some insulation as it can get quite cold in the winter months. If it's government funded then I think they get fresh money for these things in the new financial year which is April, so quite close now.

Mum only lives a few minutes away from me Frank so when she returns home if she needs me I'll be there in a jiffy. She has a button she can press for help. Not sure what it's called but if anything happens with her being on her own she can press the button and speak with someone, they have access to her bungalow and can call an ambulance for her as well. At least that gives me peace of mind, they also ring me to let me know what's going on should mum not be able to get to the phone. The button is on a wristband which she wears all the time.

I love the little jacket Mandy. My girls are bigger than me now, it's so easy to forget how small babies are. It's so cute I bet he looks lovely in it. The girls are going to look lovely in theirs once you've finished them all. They are so lucky having a nan like you. <3

I like the picture you sent Ann. Sandra loves horses. She likes to see the pictures everyone sends.

Glad you managed to see King Richard III procession and that the weather was kind to you. It'll be an experience you'll never forget. I've recorded it so that's waiting for me to watch when I get some free time. I've recorded Poldark as well and I'm a bit behind on Mr Selfridge so a lot of catching up to do. :-D :-D.

Have you got through all your photo's yet Jane. How nice to find some with Johnny on. It sounds like you've had quite a few photo's to go through. Getting some albums to put them all in is a good idea.

Sorry to hear you've cut your hand Mel. keep it dry and clean. <3 <3 Hope it feels better soon.

Hope you're feel a bit better today Frank. Drink plenty of fluids you don't want to get dehydrated or you'll end up feeling worse. Glad to hear Paddy has sorted out your wall. That was nice of you to put some money behind the bar. It'll be a lovely surprise for him.

I've tried waking hubby up twice, he asked me to wake him up at 7.30 which I did then when I looked at the time it was 7.45 so I've had to go and wake him up again. He helps a friend in his garden and it's he first day back after the winter today so he doesn't want to be late.

Well I'd better go and make him a cuppa I can hear him finally getting up lol.
Thanks again for all your lovely wishes to mum xx

Be back later if I can <3

Morning all and evening Kim,

Not read Ann's or Gill's post on this page yet but just to say thanks for the pics Ann.

Not so bright here today with greyish skies but it is dry still.

Sorry to hear you have now banged your knee Frank. What a silly boy you should take more water with it!!

Oh has taken my plaster off and put a great lump of kitchen paper round my hand and stuck it with tape. It is so fat it is hard to use the mouse because my fingers don't reach the front now.

Frank Report 23 Mar 2015 11:29

Morning all, evening Kim.

I feel on top of the world this morning. Was in bed by 11.00 pm and slept right through till 9.00 am this morning. I turned over to see the time, and there was Ros with my cup of tea <3 <3

Carolyn and Ros are down the Garden Centre for the SALE, before going into town and getting odds and ends, for the trip to Hastings on Wednesday. If the weather stays like this it will be cold but lovely with the sunshine.

Did you get the email Gill about the help with insulation ??? if not I will try to send it again.

I've been told by Madam, that I must NOT do anything outside today. BUT I will get my front lawn cut while she is out :-P :-P :-P The greenhouse will also need watering.

Do you get this with your onion sets. I looked at my plot this morning and FOUR onions have "JUMPED" out of the row. Is it the BIRDS that do it. ??? (little buggers) I will have to put them back in later.

Nice dry sunny morning here, What plans have you all got for today ??? MONDAY IS WASH DAY, well it always was. ;-) ;-) ;-)

Afternoon all

Just done my mum some lunch and I'm about to make her a cuppa.

No Frank the email didn't come through, was it today you sent it.

Hope your hand heals ok Mel, is it bleeding to require so much padding, maybe you should go and have it checked out it might need stitches.

Off to make mum a cuppa now, sorry for the short message I'll try and get back later <3

Late me at last.I have spent the afternoon putting photos in Albums that I bought this morning. This job is going to take MONTHS.I am having to trim some down to fit too :-S
But at least I have made a start. Can't do any more now as i have a stiff back from sitting awkwardly.

Glad Mum is with you now Gill :-D..That wasn't too long a stay in the hospital thankfully.

Ann,thanks for your pics.I had expected the whole procession to be a Horse drawn affair and as quite surprised to a Hearse lol.You must feel as you have taken part in a bit of history now :-D :-D.It was great so many people turned out for it all, even plenty of visitors from overseas ......I see today there was a 4 hour queue to get into the Cathedral !!!!.Good job it was dry.

The pigeons are flying around in a real flap .The Red Kite is flying very low !!!!!

Frank I am pleased you are feeling back to normal today after that awful tummy upset.
I bet as someone said it must have been a bad Prawn :-S
We have Southern Fried Chicken Fillets,Rosti Potatoes and various veg tonight. There is something so good about a S F Chicken :-D

I have never heard of Onions popping 'jumping' out of the ground Frank .Weird or what :-S.I will ask Chris if that has ever happened to ours.

I must tidy up a bit in here.I have bits of cut up photos all over the floor.

Mel I hope that hand of yours starts to heal soon .It is in such a difficult place. The best thing to put on it is those non stick gauze pad dressings. You don't want get bits of kitchen paper stuck in the wound :-S

I think James is at the Dentist now, just for a check up.I had to book the last appointment of the day for him.He will be moaning about the cost when he gets in lol.I seem to recall it is something like £40 !!!! or there abouts.Chris and I have Denplan.
I bet he will need to see the Hygienist too so that will cost even more..Poor thing :-|
At least we don't have to fork out for him these days :-D

Right tidy up time

I said to Shirl I had seen the little video clip of her in the Limo greeting her Nieces at the airport. It was on one of her relatives FB (maybe a son) She asked me to ask Frank and Maureen who are on FB if they saw it...Did you?It was lovely.

VERY busy day here as it's threatening to rain so we've finally cracked the weeding! rotovating in progress as I type, and all should be ready for planting!
Yes it is the birds that pull out the onions, they do it here (I've seen them!!) when they're small and we are for ever having to push them back in till they get too big for them to lift!
We pay £17 for a check up at the dentist, but it's NHS. I pay privately for the hygienist, and she charges quite a lot more than that, but it's well worth it!!!

Jane

Jane Report 23 Mar 2015 17:37

Our Dentist went Private Liz.£17 is pretty good for a check up.
James has just walked in .....Here we go
£35 for the check up
£9.00 Xray
£48 for a simple Scaling....so £92 !!! :-0 :-0......Have told him I will go halves with him.
He doesn't earn a fortune.Chris will no doubt tell me I shouldn't :-S

What are you going to be planting Liz? Lots of nice veg?

magpie

magpie Report 23 Mar 2015 17:57

Yes, veg is the order of the day Jane, it virtually keeps us all year, (like the marmalade!!) Heavens that's a lot of money! What on earth would any treatment be?!!!!! Can't James find an NHS dentist? Ours is brilliant, and quarter the price!!

Jane

Jane Report 23 Mar 2015 18:25

I've just suggested Liz that he looks for an NHS one..Not sure how easy they are to find these days but it is worth a try.I know my Sister changed from a private to NHS.She has to drive a fair distance but she said it was worth it.

Oh ,our little Gt Nephew William has the Chicken Pox :-(..I'm not sure how bad he has it ,but better now than when he is older.I found a photo yesterday of James and Hannah when they had it..They both looked so miserable :-(
I have one big scar from Chicken pox right under one of my boobs. At least it is hidden :-DI remembering plastered in Calamine Lotion and having Bicarb baths. At least nowadays antihistamine tablets can help with the itching.
So it is the birds then that pull up the onions !!!!!!.I never knew they did that.I wonder why?

I was just thinking about King Richards journey..I wonder what he would think (if he could see ) that he was in a hearse :-D :-D.That would be quite mind boggling lol
I think the interest this has whipped up is brilliant ..Maybe it will make youngsters more interested in our history.

Frank Report 23 Mar 2015 20:31

Evening all, Well I got lots done in the garden until 2.30. Cut the lawn and trimmed the edges. FED and watered the front garden. The earth was cracking, so needed a good soaking.

Cleaned out the water feature, but it was so heavy when full of dirty water, I have to call on a STRONG younger neighbour, who tipped it up like a bucket of water. Believe me it must weigh TWO cwt. . I will have to buy a small pump for it, as there isn't one. Well it did only cost £7.50.

I watered all the pots on the patio and fed them plus both side of the boarders. Never got round to the greenhouse so that can be done tomorrow.

Ros went to the Garden Centre, but couldn't get near the place, The cars were parked up to a mile away on both sides of the road. Even my neighbour commented that the traffic was everywhere. GAWD knows how much they took today. I hope she banked it, as she lives alone and is a prime candidate for a ROBBERY. (I might pop down later) :-D :-D :-D :-D

They did get in this afternoon, and yes, she came home with more plants and TWO BIG POTS for them to go in !!! I have banned her from going there anymore.

How's that HAND Mel, showing signs of healing I hope.

I have a nice bruise under my kneecap from bumping into the barrow. There will be some nice colours no doubt. It will mean I won't be able to go paddling at Hastings :-( :-( :-( Carolyn said this afternoon, Don't forget your BUS PASS as we will be going on the bus to Hastings Station then a train to RYE It will make a change from the car. She also wants to go to the "LANES" in Brighton, to BUY another DIAMOND RING, The last one was £10,000.00 but what a beaut. !!!!

That is a lot to pay for the dentists, surely he can find a NHS dentist. Jane you must get YELLOW PAGES OUT and ring round all the dentists to see if they are taking on any new patients.

I see you are catching up with me LIZ. Those birds are a pest. Why on earth do they do that ???

I thought they sent Richard off in a weird way. I know he was a murderer but he was a KING. I see "HIS SUPPORTERS" are supporting something about him. They didn't even know him. So how can they support him ??? IT WAS 500 years ago !!!

Glad you received the information Gill. Hope it proves useful to you. You should sign up for MARTIN's MONEY TIPS, There are always some good tips for saving money.

Only another half hour of soaps, then I will try to watch Trevor McDonald on the Mafia. Not sure if I will like it. if not back on the computer.

See you all tomorrow.

Will have to pack my case for my Holiday tomorrow. No bucket and Spade as Hastings is all stones.

Annx Report 23 Mar 2015 20:42

Yes I saw on the news they were queuing at the Cathedral at 6.00am this morning. They interviewed the ones at the front, a chap from America and another from Edinburgh. Yes, that is quite a mind boggling thought about the hearse Jane! They say he would most likely have had a West Midlands accent don't they. I wonder what that was like at the time he lived??

Our dentist went private too, but after a couple of years we changed to the NHS one in the village which is much nearer. I know they still accept new patients so James may be able to find one ok. That is a bit steep to have to fork out. The only problem with ours is that as soon as young dentists there get a bit of experience they move on to set up their own private practice. :-S

Yes, the birds do pull at the onion sets, but even if you cover the sets with cloches so the birds can't get to them they still pop up! It happens as the roots try to push down into the soil and lifts the bulbs instead. I always bury mine so you can hardly see them which seems to help them stay put. I think the birds are probably pulling them out to look for little crawly things under them.

I went to the big store at Grantham today hoping to get some thin summer tops but couldn't find any I liked. OH stayed at home and did notes and then cleaned the bathroom floor and washed the kitchen bin out and did some weeding. Then he rang me to say what did I think as his pal had asked him to go to a match this afternoon.....the tinker knew I wouldn't disagree after he'd done all that!! lol.

I wondered if Ros would bring more back Frank!!! lol. It's perhaps as well you are away for a few days! Yes the water feature is still a bargain without a pump at that price. I hope you have a nice time at Hastings and that your knee will be ok after bashing it.

Hand is a lot better now but I do keep catching it on things now and again. It has bled a bit today but nothing like it did yesterday when I did it.

Yes it is the blackbirds mostly that pull the onion sets up. When we grew loads oh would put them under the earth so the birds could'nt see them. When you plant garlic bulbs you should make a little hole and pop them in because you can bruise the bulb by pushing them in.

Morning all and evening Kim,

Is it today our Frank goes on his hols? Safe journey for all of you Frank.

Not so bright here again this morning some blue but more grey I think.

Slept with hand uncovered last night and thought I may go shopping today but oh put paid to that and said NO.

We had the deer in the garden yesterday and he wandered around the orchard with the pheasents and then went along my border eating the hardy fushia and then he layed down in the border and stayed there for about three quarters of an hour. when I next looked out the window he was gone. I got some pics and while I was watching him in the orchard I saw a tree creeper on the big ash tree and snapped a couple of pics of that too.

Jane

Jane Report 24 Mar 2015 11:05

Morning Mel ana All

Mel it probably is a good thing that OH said no to shopping today. If you were pushing a trolley around and gripping the steering wheel i the car you might open up your palm again.
How nice to have the Deer and Pheasants all pottering about together :-D

Frank is going to Hastings tomorrow .I am pretty sure he said Wednesday. He hasn't said goodbye yet :-D

I had a rotten night last night. My brain was like it was on a high .It just wouldn't stop.
I did sleep from about 10 until just before 2 but then it was all downhill from there :-S
I ended up going into Hannah's room about 4 .20 and watched tv for about 10 mins and then had a read.I did drop of and think having a thinner duvet helped plus I opened the window so had some air...Chris is a devil for shutting all the windows at the moment at night.I can't stand it when it gets stuffy and my nose gets stuffed .There is still a bit of a paint smell about upstairs so that doesn't help either .I am going to have to insist that we have one window open even if it just a crack.

Nipping out now .I want to be back by 12 as the plumber is coming to have another look at our hot water cylinder again. BBL

Morning all, evening Kim,

Another pleasant morning here, sunshine but with a chill in the air.

Bin men have been so I have cleaned them out and put them away. I tend to jet wash the Green bin and pour the water and grass cuttings that stick to the sides down the road drains. It was easy this morning as Madam has gone to the hairdressers, and the drive was clear.

How lovely Mel, to have the deer that tame, that he spends time with you in the garden. Don't you mind him eating the Fushsia ???

I don't go away until tomorrow Mel. John is picking us up about 10.30 am.

I am off down the garden to FED and water the greenhouse and my "PATCH" and see if the onions are still in place.

Catch you all later.
