Now Now Mel, Behave yourself :-D :-D

We had a delightful lunch, we sat at the same table as before. The Sunday lunch was, BEEF, LAMB or PORK. If you couldn't make up your mind you could have a slice of each !!! which Ros did. Greedy little thing. I settled for Pork, with loads of crackling. A very good selection of veg, and a BIG Yorkshire pudding. We knew the meal would be more than we could manage, so didn't have a starter. After if we were so full we couldn't face a sweet, which we don't eat at home anyway.

The had a guest beer on tap "PROPPER JOB" from Cornwall. What a beautiful pint or two is was. Ros had Tomato juice.

We then went up the A 5 to a place called "THE SHIRES" it's a courtyard of small shops, café etc. It has a BAND STAND in the centre of the courtyard. Today there was a group of OLD GENTLEMEN playing loads of old tunes. So I sat tapping my feet to the music while madam had a mooch round. We got home about 4.30 for a nice cuppa and cake.

Glad you all had a nice day with what you got up to. All those Eggs floating around Mandy, I am pleased the children enjoyed them.

What a pleasant afternoon it has turned out to be. Tomorrow is suppose to be better, with 16/17 degrees in places.

Ooh Liz didn't you do well !!!!!!!. We don't do gifts at Easter..But I do give something to Hannah and James and Jess.James had a Polo Shirt and a little bag of mini eggs, the girls had an egg and Hannah cover up(for over bikinis) and Jess a pair of snazzy jim jams .
The Half leg of Lamb I have was from M&* (3rd off the price).I am best really to have boneless Lamb as it is easy to carve and not so much waste as I have had today :-S

Mel I bet the boys will be pleased with your gifts :-D.How old are they?

Well would you Adam and Eve it...the Sun has just come out (for the first time today)
Shame it is so late.Chris is still out there planting seeds now i think.

I never did the ironing or read.In between doing dinner I have been looking up places to eat in Paris.I like to look at reviews from people so know where NOT to go :-D

Mmm Cheese and Bics ,walnuts and Grapes sound lovely Mel..Not sure I am hungry enough for this humungous roast.James and Jess have their tongues hanging out lol
I will see how long Chris is going to be in the garden and if he is going to be a while then I might just do 2 sittings.

I have a Turkey Crown for tomorrow but am not sure whether it will be another roast or to do something different with it.I will decide tomorrow.

Chris dug up an old pair of scissors today. Not modern ones they are totally covered in rusted bent.Could be from when the house was built in the 30's..Def not Roman though :-S
I need to turn the potatoes now.

I am back from next door. They have beat me with strange wildlife entering their garden ..............They had a visit from something that has never been in our garden!!!!!!!

Can youguess what it was. I know it's true because I have seen a picture of it. :-S

Emma said the deer come in right up to their patio windows and eat all her plants in her tubs so I am not the only one they sup at.

Frank I can only dream........but he still has a nice body........he is probably young enough to be my grandson.

You might have to give us a clue Mel, four legs or two ?

Glad you enjoyed your lunch Frank.

Frank Report 5 Apr 2015 19:08

Enjoy it when you get it Jane, as the Judge said to the actress :-D :-D :-D Don't over do it though. What has Chris been planting today seed wise ??

Mel Don't keep us on TENTER HOOKS, was it a big CAT (PANTHER) one has been seen round this way a few months ago. It might have hitch hicked down to DEVON :-D :-D :-D

We came through Gayton this afternoon (my old village) and the little field by the crossroads always had a sheep with lambs in it. Today it had to LLAMAS what a surprise that was. One was as black as your hat, the other then usual colour.

Had forty winks after my cuppa, now ready to settle down to the Tele. "VERA" in on tonight. Those stories are usually quite good.

An Emu

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 6 Apr 2015 10:17

Morning all and evening Kim,

It's a beautiful morning here with sunshine and blue skies after a frost I think but I was'nt really up early enough to see it.

Thanks for the pics of your garden Liz it's looking nice and tidy after all your hard work. Wish my borders were the size of yours. :-(

Washing on the line and I am about to put another lot in to take advantage of the weather.

Jane

Jane Report 6 Apr 2015 10:56

Morning/Evening All

An EMU !!! well I never..Where did that one come from???.One of James's friends parents keep birds like Emus but I can't think at the moment what they are called.I have a feeling they might be from Africa. They are smaller than the Emu

Frank I will have to check with Chris again as to what he planted There is quite a lot.
But I know climbing peas,2 different carrots, dwarf beans, leaks, cauliflower and a weird sounding kind of kale are some of the things.

Mandy and Liz thanks for the photos....LIttle Lewis is so lovely Mandy and his dimple is soon sweet.Do the others have a dimple?

Liz your garden is looking good.I do love all your old stone troughs and pots.Is that a cage for soft fruits? I seem to recall you saying something about having one a while ago.

It is a smashing day.Doors and windows flung open :-D.I think it might be a good idea to hang the metal fly screen up at the back door as I imagine we might start getting flies and bugs if we are going to be having the mini heatwave this week.
At least all the children will have some nice sunshine before they go back to school. All parents will be very happy :-D :-D

Just going to stick this Turkey Crown in the oven now and have a coffee.

Frank

Frank Report 6 Apr 2015 11:08

Morning all Evening Kim,

Well I slept like a log from midnight to 7.00 am. Feel a lot better for a good night sleep.

I have been busy in the kitchen already. After having a sausage sarnie. I sealed a bit of Silverside of beef in the pan and started to prepare a pot roast fort tonight. All the root veg and seasoning are in together with a pint of beef stock and half bottle of red wine. (will save me drinking it) :-D :-D :-D That can go in the oven on a low heat for 3/4 hours, so nothing to worry about there. I will do some green veg and small roastie's. Might even do a B & B pudding for afters.

What a beautiful morning we have here. The frost was about at 7.00 but soon cleared to leave wall to wall blue sky's.

Ros is in the garden already, she doing a bit in the front while the sun is on it. I know she bought more plants yesterday, so they will go in somewhere.

I thought "VERA" dragged on a bit last night. Kept going from one thing to another, I lost track of where she was half the time.

I was in bed listening to the radio after that. Local Radio, was playing the top THREE HITS of the 1960. There I was singing away, I certainly enjoyed myself. LITTLE THINGS PLEASE LITTLE MINDS, I hear someone say ;-) ;-) ;-)

Yes Liz, all yours and Ian's hard work has paid off.

AN EMU Mel. Where the devil did that come from. (it didn't fly there) !!!

I must get on and get in the garden to help madam, not that I am much use, but she can find something to do.

See you later.

magpie

magpie Report 6 Apr 2015 11:25

No Jane, we grow green veg in the cage! It protects against pigeons and worse than them cabbage white butterflies who just decimated them the first year we were here. The cage works really well.
OH has sold his big rotovator so financial stability has been restored!!!
I agree about Vera Frank! I went to sleep at one point, so it was even more of a muddle!!!
B& B pudding Frank? I haven't had that for years! I used to love it, so it's my turn to come to lunch!!!!
Cold meat and salad for us today, which is good as I'm cleaning windows and won't feel like cooking! OH is splitting logs and stacking them for next winter, so a hive of activity here!!!!

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 6 Apr 2015 11:25

There is a farm a little way away that keeps emu's and it had come from there.

Second lot of washing in now and I am going in the garden. Oh is already out there mowing.

Yes the pics of little |Lewis were lovely with his dimple in his little chin and Liz's garden looks so good I must get on with mine.......

I have just seen a Brimstone Butterfly fly across the garden!!

Frank

Frank Report 6 Apr 2015 13:58

Mel, I went into my small shed this morning and there were two butterfly's banging against the window trying to get out. I managed to retrieve them and they fly off.

I have taken down the old arch and replaced it with my galvanized one. When I put it together, it was too heavy for me to manage on my own, I had to call Ros. It's all in position now and I have retrained the Passion Flower up and over the arch. I have two honeysuckles to go in also, so when all settled we should have a nice scented arch to the lawn.

I can hear mowers going like mad around the gardens. I think the back lawn will be dry enough now (after the damp morning) to get cut.

I have had to put my onions back under ground. The Broad Beans and runners are doing well in the pots they are about two inches high now. I can just see my Garlic coming through and the trays of tomato seeds. So It looks like busy times ahead.

Just having a coffee, then I might (ONLY) might to the lawn.

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 6 Apr 2015 15:28

Oh back on the mower after a nice lunch of Melton Mowbray pie and salad.

I have washed up and am now going out there again.

Sowed calendulas, Cosmos and basil this morning. Looked at my Asidinanthrus (sp) and they looked ok so popped a bit of fresh compost in the bottoms of the pots and some on top. They are not frost hardy so I have had them in the shed over the winter. They have the most beautiful perfume.

Jane

Jane Report 6 Apr 2015 15:37

Sounds like everyone is having a busy day in the gardens today :-DThe sun is still shining here, but there is a breeze now which feels a bit chilly when you just sit down outside.Washing all dried and in :-D
My wrist joints are so painful today and puffy on one wrist :-|,my hip too seems to be giving me a bit of gip too.Feel like and old crock :-S

I'm going to have a read now while I wait for some potatoes to par boil.

I just remembered the name of the bird a bit like the Emu .It is a Rhea.

Frank

Frank Report 6 Apr 2015 16:35

Not Andre Rhea Jane :-D :-D :-D :-D I knew his brother RHEA END !!

I punished myself by getting the mower out and doing the back lawn. My gawd did it need it. I got six box's of cutting off it today, normally four. So it's been growing well since the spring treatment by Green Thum#

Ros has had a good go at the front garden, It looks very smart. She said the only trouble with working in the front is, everybody stops for a chat as they go by, so takes longer to do. She has just come up from the pond with two newts in the net. She is trying to clear more of this duck weed. !!! WHAT A JOB.

The sun has been very warm this afternoon, I took my tablet out to read a book, but it was too bright, so gave it up as a bad job.

Had another Shower and a shave with a new blade. Nicks everywhere. Good job I have one of those sticks that stop the bleeding ;-) ;-) ;-) Now sitting in my dressing gown for an hour, to get myself together.

Dinner is smelling great, even the neighbours asked what I was cooking, as it smelt so nice.

Tony the lazy neighbour has left his wife to do the garden this afternoon, while he sat on the seat on the patio reading. She is not well, Ros and I think she looks like she's had a minor stroke they way she holds her arm down by her side. I am always asking Tony HOWS VAL. Alright is all you get in reply. I think she should go and see the doctor, but I think what's it got to do with me !!! She has a brain, and should know she's not well.

Ice cream man is about, but his musical bells aren't working right. They are giving out a right old DIN.

Pub tonight for the football. and I think I have earned a pint, so might have one of those also. ;-) ;-) ;-) ;-)

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 6 Apr 2015 17:36

You have been busy Frank. I swept up the pebbles the bantams scratched all over the back lawn this afternoon. It was a new sack of them and the plastic went over the winter and they all spilled out. Bantams thought they were great for looking for grubs so over the lawn they all went in all directions.

I let them out this afternoon and they have had a lovely dust bath under the box hedge. The old cockrel was seeing off the male pheasent as 5 of his girls were having a little c orn with some of the banties. Poor old Phil Pheas. he dos'nt know whats hit him when he stands up to Cockle. Have you ever seen male pheasents stand each other off? It can go on for ages with a lot of head bobbing and tail displays to make them look bigger but old Cockle just puts his two feet straight in. I think Phil came off worse as he walked away in the end.

Jane

Jane Report 6 Apr 2015 17:45

You aren't covered in little bits of toilet paper then Frank :-D.lol..All smart to go to the pub.We never see a soul when we are in the garden except the occassional time if him next door is on his side near the only bit of fence we can see through.Yesterday I called hello and just got a silly grin and a nod.He is a weird one :-S.Well all the family are .You never see any one visiting ,and they seemed to have fallen out with most of the neighbours .Oh well there's nowt so strange as folk.

Mandy I was looking at little Lewis and his dimple again...A real Kirk Douglas there
:-D :-D
2 different meals here tonight.James and Jess are having the Roast Turkey,Roast Potatoes ,stuffing and veg.

Chris and I are having the turkey but with that Rice and Lentil thing I made on saturday
with peas and green beans. Jess goes back home this evening. We think the train service from here to London will not be disrupted(with it being B H ).Not sure what it will be like from London to Chislehurst. It should be ok.I must make sure she takes all her clothes and shoes home this time lol.She does leave a few bits here like jim jams and some undies and a top or two,But there seems to be a lot now .I must remember she has a coat in the garage too .It went in there after they had been out somewhere where there was a bonfire and it was a bit whiffy. Just got it and it smells fine now :-D
I think when Hannah and I go down to Plymouth for 3 nights next month they will be going off somewhere ,maybe Stockholm or Amsterdam.Chris is quite looking forward to a bit of time to himself :-D.
He is sitting out at the patio table reading at the moment.I'm surprised he isn't feeling a bit chilly.

So that is another Easter over. The next one will be here before we know it :-S..Easter Eggs and Hot Cross Buns will no doubt disappear off the shelves by tomorrow..What's next other than Fathers Day? Bonfire night?
