Mel Fairy Godmother Report 3 Feb 2018 11:37

Well I have had aa good tidy up in the kitchen ready for the man to come and he rang me at 11.15am to say he can't make the appointment at 1.30pm!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I said it was 11.30am. Anyway to cut a long story short he is now coming, or supposed to be coming, on Monday between 4pm and 5pm.

I don't know they want your money and can't even keep their appointments. So I am all tidy and ready for his visit and after a couple of days I shall probabkly be in a mess again.....

Jane

Jane Report 3 Feb 2018 14:09

Afternoon All

I am really sorry to hear that our good friend Ann will not be posting again. Ann, you will be really missed you know :-(. But I know we will be keeping in touch and having our meet up next month with Fitz.

What a wet and miserable day it is here. I think I shall light the fire to cheer the place up in a minute. Thomas is curled up on his bed after coming in looking like a drowned rat earlier. He is really not impressed with this weather.

Frank, I hope the little kitten will have learnt its lesson now after having an unexpected dunking in the bath LOLOL. What a good job Julia was in he bath at the time !One of my cats used to love sitting on the end of the bath when I was in it but she never got wet.She was a right odd cat with no personality at all. Not like Thomas !!

Mel that is so bad that the chap now isnt coming to do the quote until monday. It makes you wonder just because it is a quote for just the one door they aren't that bothered.
James is having trouble sending back the Coffee Machine that Jess and her Mum gave him for his birthday. It didnt work.So he sent off for another one which arrived the following day. First Hermes came to pick up the broken one on the wrong day and James hadnt packaged it up. Then apparently some one tried to pick it up again 3 times BUT FROM THE WRONG ADDRESS !!!. So this morning James went to a shop that is supposed to take these parcels but they no longer do that . He then found 3 other places but each one said the machines werent working so couldnt accept the package!!!!!!!. He has to have it in the post by tomorrow but obviously cant now so he is having to get in touch with the company where the coffee machine came from to explain . What a performance . To say he a bit cheesed off is putting it politely .

Gill, I cant believe you havent actually been out since Christmas Eve !!!. That is such a long time. Once you are over this nasty virus you will have to get out there. It cant be good for you being in the bungalow all this time. I do hope that Sandra isnt going t o be the next to get this virus.

My Niece is in a right old state so Janice says. She has tried speaking to her Father but he is not willing to help. B*******. He said he might just be able to go and visit ner next Tuesday !!.Personally if was me I would tell him not to bother. He is a waste of space.Millionaire (I think ) but a total loser in all our eyes. Enough about him.
Rachel has an appointment with C A B on Tuesday.
I think Finn and Amelia are ok. They will be fine I think until they should see their Dad who hasnt even bothered to text or ring them :-S :-S Chris had trouble sleeping last night as it was all playing on his mind.

Mandy how are you both doing today. A little more improvement ? I suppose the only positive thing is that you have both had the flu at the same time.

Did anyone see Requiem last night? I tried but I dont think it is my thing. It will be the last of my favourite programmes tonight. Spiral . But because it is 2 episodes together I never manage to stay awake so will no doubt have to see it again on catch up when I am as bright a a button :-D

I just realised I havent put my food shopping away. My freezer food will be thawing !

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 3 Feb 2018 15:35

If its as cold at yours as it is here Jane it won't thaw out anyway.

We are having hail at the moment as I type. I have just turned the heating on as oh had the heating off this morning as the loft hatch was open. We have just chucked out two dress rails as they had gone a bit rusty up in the loft. They are from when mum and I sold clothes from home and we used to do house parties too.

Think I may have a little go at my felting. Not needle felting.

Jane

Jane Report 3 Feb 2018 16:11

It's not freezing Mel. Just that horrible chilly wet rain that gets into your bones. It is just that fine rain with possibly a tiny bit of sleet in.
How long have you had those dress rails in the loft? Bet you feel good now you have got rid of them. I often think of the false leg that Chris left in his Dads loft after his Dad died and we sold the bungalow. I was really cross at the time when Chris said it was left there as the new owners must have had a bit of a shock thinking that there was a body part up there LOL

This weather is what I call Devon Weather. We are just missing a bit of sea mist . Whatever people may say, Devon is really quite wet county. My Mum never agreed and said people were talking rubbish :-D She always liked to think it was sunny.

The birds have emptied the window feeder 3 times already today !!!!! They arent getting any more. Still no long tailed tits :-S

Bunnyboo Report 3 Feb 2018 17:34

We've had such a lovely day. Our lunch was a great success and the meal delicious. We both had fillet steak, nice and rare as we both like it, with French fries and side salad; for a pudding we had chocolate cheese cake with cream and orange sprinkles.
A bottle of white wine completed the meal! Afterwards we met some friends for coffee in the lounge and finally got home about 4.30pm! No supper needed so a relaxing evening ahead!
I think the weather in he West Country can be very wet!! when we lived on Exmoor the mist and mizzle were legendary!!! It is drier here although today you could be forgiven for thinking differently!!
I hope you and Hubby are continuing to feel better today Mandy. Frank, you do sound crook, let's hope it lifts soon. I hope other poorly people are feeling more chipper!
The weather forecast is for a cold week ahead with the threat of snow! :-S
We started to watch Requiem Jane, but turned it over as it was too spooky for us!! We watched another film with subtitles about the siege of Stalingrad, which was nearly as bad!! so we gave up and went to sleep!!

Evening all,

I too was sorry and shocked to hear that Ann wouldn't be posting any more ,you'll be truly missed Ann your posts have always been a real pleasure to read <3

Still both coughing here and i have no real energy to do any thing so i haven't ,i've never seen so much telly ,poor Max hasn't had his walk but he has had a good run in the garden with his Jolly egg so he was happy ,he's now curled up on the sofa beside Colin

It's been a murky old day ,no sun, no wind but it did rain just a while ago .

Jane what a performance poor James has had trying to send the coffee machine back :-0 i hope he's go it all out sorted now .

Gill that's a long time to not go out ,how have you been managing with getting shopping if OH has been poorly have you shopped on line ? i keep thinking about giving it a try especially as this past week we have both felt so bad ,i know son and DIL would shop for us and they have done this past week but it would save troubling them as they have enough to do with the grandchildren .

Frank how are you feeling now ? i hope you haven't given it to Ros now if she has a sore throat .

Frank

Frank Report 3 Feb 2018 19:55

Hi all, Nothing worth watching on the box. Roa had her Fish cake but threw most of it in the bin. It has CHILLY in the crust. She burns up in her mouth if she has too much.

I haven't eaten again. I had a HAM roll at lunchtime. That will see me through until the morning.

Glad you and Colin are on the mend Mandy. I must say (touch wood) my cough isn't so bad this evening. So I can but hope I can sleep tonight. My eyes are beginning to go SQUARE with all this night time T.V.

Gill, Come to think of it I haven't been out much since coming back from Paignton. I just don't seem to want to go out in this weather.

Have just ordered some TREE LILLIES from Thompson and Morgan. They were in the Mail today. Ros bought some before, but the bulbs got eaten by something. These, we will put in POTS.

See you in the morning. xx

Anne Report 3 Feb 2018 21:28

Good evening all

It's been raining nearly all day again, so no walkies for Ruby not that bothers her she uses all her energy up playing indoors with her toys.

Pleased to hear you are feeling a little better Mandy it does sound the same as I had. I've still got the cough but have got some my appetite back but still feel tired most of the time. I have been grocery shopping on line for about 7 years now, I was still working when I started and there is no way I would go back to doing it the other way. I even do it when we go on holiday.

I am very surprised and sad that Ann has decided to leave us after all this time hopefully she will change her mind and come back, she will be missed as she posted every day previously.

Just finished watching Suffragettes, what a brilliant prog, we were both spell bound.
We're now in bed watching the weather forecast which isn't particularly cheerful!!
Hope you have a better night Frank, and everyone else too.

Frank Report 4 Feb 2018 03:24

Here I am, COUGHED OUT !!! went to bed 10.45. I left Ros watching her jewellery programme. Then when I came out, she decided to go to bed. I took my tablets and cough mixture, and was back in bed by 1,30. I have laid and coughed since, I know I was disturbing Ros, so got up again. I've had a drink and more MIXTURE. Am going to find something on the tele for a while, then try going back to bed.

I can just hear your low breathing with the od ZZZ so I KNOW YOU ARE ALL SLEEPING.

Jane

Jane Report 4 Feb 2018 10:02

Morning Frank and All
I must have a look at my laptop when I wake in the night Frank Chances are you will be here :-D. This night coughing must really get you down when all you want to be able to do is SLEEP !.

It 's not looking a bad morning at the moment. I think Chris said there was a little bit of sleet earlier. I didnt see that as I was still in the land of nod.

Popping in the shower now and try to decide what to have for dinner tonight. I have no idea at the moment. See you later.

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 4 Feb 2018 11:17

Morning everyone,

Brightish here this morning and we have had some sun pop out at times. Oh is back in the loft. When I got up this morning he had the heating on and my clothes were all lined up on the rad. Lovely and warm to get into.

I don't have to worry about whats for dinner on a Saturday or a Sunday as we always, well nearly always have the same thing. Steak on a Saturday night and a big breakfast on a Sunday then something for tea like pork pie and pasta salads. Oh mentioned he had'nt had that pork pie with the egg down the middle for ages so I have a hunk for him for tonight.

I hated that when I was young and never ate cheese but its funny how you're tastes change as you get older. I have only really eaten cheese since with being with oh over the past 20 years. Mum and dad both loved it and dad liked a cheese and jam sandwich.

I ordered a lot of beads online the other day so am awaiting their arrival sometime this week.

Bunnyboo

Bunnyboo Report 4 Feb 2018 11:41

Not a bad morning here, like you Mel, it's brightish, and not too cold. You're right about tastes changing when you get older, I used to dislike bacon and cheese years ago, but now I love both!! We mostly have a joint or chicken on Sunday, ( today it's beef) cold on Monday!! but not necessarily mince on Tuesday!! Breakfast on Sunday is always boiled eggs and rolls/toast, & coffee. In the week it's toast & marmalade, & coffee.
Not doing much today except washing and reproofing OH's shooting trousers they can then be put away for the summer! Luckily you can do it all in the washing machine, else it would be a right old palaver!
Heard from Amazon that our refund for the too small coat has been accepted and will be credited to our account in three/five days, so that's this morning's good news!!:
Oh dear Frank, not another bad night!! Let's hope this wretched cough starts to ease up, it's so wearing endlessly coughing! :-(
Hope everyone has a pleasant day.

Afternoon all,

Suns shining now but i can see some black old clouds about ,i woke up about five this morning and it was really snowing ,big old flakes and the wind was quite strong .

Frank not another rough night you poor old thing ,your cough is really keeping you awake at night , we're both still coughing but we are able to get sleep at night , have you tried some honey and lemon that quite soothing for the throat .

I love my cheese ,i don't think i could live without cheese ,no meat wouldn't bother me at all i can take it or leave it .

Gillx

Gillx Report 4 Feb 2018 13:06

Afternoon all

It was icy this morning but the sun is out now so the icy has melted.

I woke up this morning feeling worse, my throat is so sore, all I can do is take some Strepsils and the Beechams hot drinks. I'm still drinking plenty which is helping, but like Frank, I'm coughing at night so I'm not getting much sleep. OH is still coughing at night too so we're keeping each other awake. I slept all afternoon yesterday and went to bed very early last night. I can't believe how tired I am lately.

Sorry to see you've had another bad night Frank, you must be getting so fed up of it by now.

I've never heard of anyone eating cheese with jam before Mel, not sure I'd like that combination. I love cheese, but it doesn't love me so I can't eat to much of it in one go. That was nice of your OH to put your clothes on the rad for you. Is he almost finished in the loft yet?

Talking of bacon and cheese Liz have you ever tried grilling them together on a plate, it's delicious? I have bread and butter with mine. My mum used to make it when I was a child. You do need to make sure you have a plate that will take the heat though. I didn't once and the plate cracked under the grill :-(

I also make cheese and onion soup by frying the onions then adding chucks of cheese and then milk, let it all melt together and there you have it. I like to have some dry bread with mine. It makes a difference from cheese on toast and really warms you up in the winter months. It doesn't take long to do either.

So you've had your refund for Cas's coat, when will the new one arrive? Let's hope it's the right size for her this time. Can't wait to see a pic of her in it.

Going to get a drink now, see if it helps my cough. All this coughing is making my throat worse.

Frank

Frank Report 4 Feb 2018 13:08

Afternoon to you all,

Went back to bed around 4.30 this morning, woke for a wee at 7.50 and slept again until 10.45. On the bedside cupboard was a nice COLD COT. I had a sip, and decided against drinking it.

Ros was sitting watching something on the box when I came out. made myself another COT and read part of the paper. Got showered and dressed. Now I have the Veg. to get ready for dinner tonight. We have a beef joint that Ros bought yesterday, not that we are short in the Freezer. !!!

Ros has been up in the loft looking for her knitting needle box. She must have 50 or more pairs. Over the years she has made some beautiful things. I don't know what she is going to knit now, something to do with Stitchery Do I expect.

Very high clouds here, and a bit of a breeze, but I must say IT LOOKS COLD.

We do tend to eat a fair amount of Cheese. Ros loves a bit of Stilton and biscuits at supper time. I tend not to eat after my evening meal.

Glad you are improving Mandy. and those of you who have been poorly are now getting back to normal. I will be so glad when the weather improves, so I will WANT to go out for a walk. Simon walks around 6 miles every morning with the dogs, and loves being out in the cold. He also goes out with Sally on her training trips, getting ready for her all night walk in May.

Well must get on with my choirs, and get a coffee. See you all later.

Frank

Frank Report 4 Feb 2018 14:46

I have just put a 1943 Black and White Movie on for Ros to watch. JAYNE AYRE. The voices are so annoying. Did they really speak like that, back then ??? I can't sit and watch that.!!!

While I was in the shower. Ros did the veg for dinner, so all I had to do was make the pudding and Cheese sauce.

My friend from "BEN" had arranged to call and see me Wednesday morning, but that is when my new appointment for my ultra sound is. So I have rung him to put it off. He will arrange another day when he is this way. He was very good to me when I first had my stroke. I have mentioned him and "BEN" before on the thread.

The wind seems to be getting up a bit. They say we are in for a very cold snap this week. So be careful if you are out walking. Mind any ice. !!!

I see on the Woodford Bridge site (where I was born) that the pond by the church has been taken over by what looks like hundreds of geese. The locals seem to be feeding them, and more and more are flying in. As a child I don't ever remember seeing a duck on it. !!!!

I was informed by HMRC this week, that in December when I reach 80 years old I will receive an extra TWENTY FIVE PENCE A WEEK on my pension. BIG DEAL. what will that buy ???

Like gets so boring when you have nothing to do. that is just how I am feeling this afternoon. I have read the paper (depressing) Done what needs doing in the kitchen, don't want to start a new book, while the tele is on and don't want to watch the film. I might go and lay on the bed and listen to the radio. lol lol

Anne

Anne Report 4 Feb 2018 15:18

Good afternoon all

Lovely and bright here today Richard took Ruby for a walk but didn't get far before the brakes came on.

We had roast chicken today but only for 3 of us Becky was at home as for once in a blue moon her mother was doing a roast dinner, Paul only wanted a sandwich as he's eating out later and it's one of those eat as much as you want places, so just Abbie, who only eats carrots and roast potatoes, Yorkshire puddings and meat, no gravy either, Richard and myself,

Hope those coughs soon ease up so everyone suffering can get a decent nights sleep, I am still coughing at night but not so much but I don't have to worry about anyone else. I find sucking a medicated pastille helps more than cough mixture.

Richard was out for a meal with friends last night so I also watched the Suffragette film it really brought it home the sacrifices these women made to get the vote. I was in tears when the little boy was given up by his father for adoption how wicked was that?

Bunnyboo

Bunnyboo Report 4 Feb 2018 16:07

Oh yes Anne, wasn't that adoption quite dreadful! Just imagine, that poor mother had absolutely no say whatsoever as to what happened to her little boy! Think if it had happened to one of us?! Beyond wicked. As you say what those women went though is almost beyond belief! I think all us ladies owe them!
OH has just taken Cas for a quick run in the field then we're pulling out the unit that the sky box etc is on ready for this chap tomorrow. It hasn't been done for weeks so is bound to be filthy!! :-0
A 1943 black and white version of Jane Eyre Frank!! No wonder it has those accents!! :-D
