Frank Report 12 Mar 2018 12:48

Good afternoon all,

What a lovely day Ros had yesterday. As I said Harvey and Julia arrived as planed and Conrad and Jan arrived out of the blue.
Harvey and Julia bought Ros a very nice necklace of a dark stone set in silver. The back of which is finely engraved, so can be worn either way. Conrad and Jan bought Ros a PRINT of our local Artist Peter Newcombe, I have mentioned him before. His prints are getting very expensive, as his originals are in the thousands of pounds now.

By the time we settled down at our table and ordered drinks it was fast approaching 4.00 pm. Some of us had starters, so delayed the main courses being served. Four of them had the RIB of Beef roasted for 9 hours. Julia had pork, and I had A CHILDRENS MEAL of Roast beef, and still left nearly half of it.

They came back home for a while, but as Conrad had a long journey, and Julia had the ironing to do they left around 6.00 pm.

I am pleased that you all had a nice Mothers Day, even if it wasn't spent by all of you with your children.

We have a terrible rainy day here, and so dank and miserable. We have the lights on and the heating on. Nothing needed from Tesco, so will settle down for the afternoon.

For the first time I can remember, I have not got my tablets in the containers. I have run out. Ros has just done them for the next month. So this morning tablets are late going down my stomach, on top of a very nice Sausage, bacon, eggs and tomatoes. No lunch for me, to say the least.!!!!

I have a Sheep S@@@ Pie out of the freezer for tonight. So no cooking. Just a bit of veg to do.

Afternoon All

I hope the scan goes ok for OH and there are no signs of stones. He really should have a mask in the loft if it is all dusty and he Asthma . But like you said sometimes they just don't listen !!!!.

More boards for your craft work Mel :-D. You will be turning out all sorts of things (ready for selling :-D :-D ). You could have yourself a good little earner there :-D

Anne I keep meaning to to look at the new puppies on the FB page. I hope though that the Mum isnt going to be breed from too often as I always think that is cruel and then they are not wanted when they are worn out. But I dont think the people you got Ruby from sound like those kind of people. My friend rehomed a little Border Terrier who has been used to produce so many puppies. All she needed was a nice quiet homw where she could rest and have lots of love. You should see her now :-D :-D

The rain is arriving here. It's misty and heavy drizzle which looks like it is getting more now. James got back fro Sheffield a short while ago and said it was heavy rain on the way.Thomas has just come in too soaked through.I have dried him off with some kitchen paper and under hus tummy is was all muddy so gawd knows where he has been rummaging .

No Frank today yet?

Jane, Franks post is just above yours!!!
We're back from the vets! Cas was a very good girl and passed her check up with flying colours! She doesn't mind the vets at all so jumped up onto the table without any fuss. We've taken out a lifetime vaccination/check up protection plan for her. You pay £99 at the vet, and this covers her vaccinations for the rest of her life. It also includes a six monthly checkup as well. The yearly jabs are £40 and rising so for a young dog this is very good value and we're really pleased to have taken advantage of it.
You're right about the Hyacinths Jane!! They're right out now and although I do love them, the scent is a bit overpowering!! I think they'll be going into the Hallway!!

Afternoon all,

Dry first thing here but raining now and a little bit cooler than yesterday .

I hope OH's scan has gone ok today Gill and there's no stones showing up , naughty man he should wear a mask in the dusty loft if he suffers from Asthma , you have to really nag him next time he goes up there :-D

Liz , that sounds a very good deal at the vets if it's for the rest of her life , we pay a yearly thing like that that covers all injections, kennel cough ,six monthly check up and nail clipping .

We have been to the chocolate factory shop, oh Mel you should see the bag of Walnut Whips we got ,a huge bag, there must be at least two dozen in there for £2 :-D

Anne i had a look at the puppies ,what dear little things :-D

Cold beef and bubble and squeak with pickles for us tonight.

Anne

Anne Report 12 Mar 2018 16:17

Good afternoon all

It's been raining on and off all day so far but quite mild.

Hope your OH's scan has good results Gill. You both need and deserve a rest.

Ronnie, Ruby's Mum has only had 2 litters, she is a family pet, one of 3 bostons living very comfortably at home they are all related girls, I don't know if the new puppies have the same father as Ruby, they seem to have a lot more white on them then Ruby and her siblings.. Ruby is very much like her Mum.

I read this morning Ken Dodd has died, I remember first seeing him in Torquay in 1960 when we were on our honeymoon, he had a remarkable singing voice as well as being very funny. Much later he performed on stage at the Wilde Theatre which is part of the Arts Centre where I worked, he over ran which he is well known for. For his fee he only took a % of the box office otherwise he would have been too expensive.. We also saw him at the Peacock Theatre in Woking he was a one off and will be missed.

That was good value for Cas at the vets Liz, good that she had a clean bill of health.
Amy used to enjoy going to the vets but always sat on her bottom in case they wanted to take her temperature, Ruby on the other hand shakes like a leaf from when we get in Paul's car, because it's on week day she knows it's a trip to the vets
Our vets are now part of the Medivet Uk and they do a very similar scheme which I am going to join.. Ruby is also insured with Pet Plan not cheap but it's the lifetime plan.

Mandy that was good value at the chocolate factory, did they have .Easter Eggs on offer as well?

Ros had some nice presents and the meal sounds a real treat, like you, Frank I usually go for the children's menu when eating out unless it's fish & chips at the seaside,

Frank

Frank Report 12 Mar 2018 17:02

Still a dark miserable afternoon, It doesn't seemed to have got light all day.

That does sound an excellent deal at the VETS Liz, As you say £40.00 for injections, now you get everything for so little money. Much cheaper than PET insurance I would imagine. Not that I ever had my dogs covered, it wasn't something you did years ago.

Mandy, Why is the Factory outlet so cheap. Are they seconds or miss shapes ??

Oh what a lazy day we have had. After all he company and excitement from yesterday, it has been lovely just sitting reading my book. This in a Lynda La Plante Novel. Many of which I have read. Julia saw it yesterday, and said what a great read it is. So far I have to agree with her. Ros had some lunch, while I didn't want any. She has had a COT this afternoon and biscuits, but I didn't want anything.

I have done spouters, carrots and parsnips for Veg tonight. Roa seems to like boiled Parsnips more than roasted, where as I am he opposite.

I expect I will be on here later this evening, as Marcella is on again, and I just haven't been able to get into it.

Yes poor old Ken Dodd has passed away. I didn't know he got married ONLY TWO DAYS AGO. After being in a relationship for over FORTY YEARS. Thinking back when one of our local policemen, was on his death bed when he got married. Carolyn was a witness at the bedside.

My right knee has started to click and clunk. I do hope it's not telling me it needs replacing. :-( :-( :-( I still get trouble with the one that has been replaced. So don't think I will be going down that road, anytime soon.

Bunnyboo

Bunnyboo Report 12 Mar 2018 18:05

We've got pet insurance as well Frank, The vet plan we took out today is just for inoculations and checkups. Our insurance isn't cheap, but if she needed any serious treatment, it would cost a fortune, so is worth having.
Wet old afternoon, so we've just been snoozing and reading.

Jane Report 12 Mar 2018 18:09

I just missed seeing Franks post when I posted mine. That sounded a really good lunch yesterday Frank ,even though you did only manage a small amount. Is there anything that can boost your appetite? I am sure I have heard of something.

Anne those dear little Pups :-D :-D. They do seem to have a lot more white than the first litter.

Mandy aren't you lucky to be living so near to the Chocolate Factory Shop. That was a really good price for all those Walnut Whips !!! James came back with a lovely box of handmade chocs for me today. I wont tell him how much you paid LOL .There are only 10 in this box so i will have to eek them out :-D

I was never a fan of Ken Dodd, but it sad to see another great entertainer gone.I did read that he only married his partner of 40 years on Friday!. I bet there will be a lot of Tickling Sticks waved at his funeral :-D

Just had a Yellow weather warning for rain here now. :-S. So I expect Thomas will soon be heading home again. He wandered across the patio a bit earlier with a Rabbit in his mouth. Chris shooed him over to the hedge. I am going to have to take a deep breath tomorrow and have a look to see how many he has half eaten and left. There could be quite a pile :-S :-S.I really dont fancy a heap of decomposing little furry bunnies right next to the house.I said to Chris I would put on rubber gloves and if I find any he can be behind me with a plastic bin bag .

Slow cooker meal tonight. Its been on since 11am so should be done now. I always like to do it though for a bit longer than they say especially when it is Beef which is what it is.

James and Jess had a trip out from Sheffield into the Peak District yesterday and went down a cave called the Devils Arse LOL They didnt think much of Sheffield itself but loved the scenery and the people who were all very friendly.

it's not looking too clever outside now.

MillymollyAmanda

MillymollyAmanda Report 12 Mar 2018 18:13

Mel i counted the Walnut whips .....there's forty in the bag !!!!!!! that's 5p each :-0

Yes they had Easter Eggs Anne ,i bought some tiny ones for the egg hunt they were £1 a bag and there must be fifty tiny eggs in a bag so i go two bags and also got some slightly bigger ones about five in a bag for £1-50 so i got two bags of them .

Some are seconds Frank it could just be that the foil wrapper doesn't quite cover the chocolate or they are misshapen and some are because they have over run on the order so they sell them off .

Jane

Jane Report 12 Mar 2018 19:50

I do the same thing as you Liz . I paid £99 for life cover for vaccinations and health check ups for Thomas. Bargain I think :-D(that is at the Vets). We also took out extra cover with Insurance which could be well worth it should anything major happen with Thomas. Good job we did too as a just a short time after was when he had to have that big op on his hip where the head and neck of his femur had to be removed.

Frank, have you seen the local news all to do with the Skint Northamptonshire County Council????? It sounds so bad :-S

Anne

Anne Report 12 Mar 2018 20:12

Richard bought me a lovely miniature orchid when he came in with the Paddington film, it's very pretty in a dark pink colour this was a nice surprise.

When we had our static caravan in the Peak District we went down several caves one was a Blue John Cavern near Castleton and another just outside of Buxton but don't remember seeing the Devil's Arse. The Peak District was like a 2nd home to us as we had the caravan for about 10 years in all that time we never visited Sheffield. So many lovely walks with both Haddon Hall and Chatsworth well worth a visit the gardens at Chatsworth were fantastic and we went there every time we visited. As you say the people are so friendly and beautiful scenery.

I also have the two cats insured with Pet Plan and get a discount for having all 3 with them, when Shadow had the accident which meant the loss of sight in her left eye as our vet referred her to a specialist in Luton this cost over a thousand pounds so we were so glad we had her insured.

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 12 Mar 2018 23:16

I hope your oh has good news after his scan Gill. I have been thinking about it all day. When will he get his results?

When I went to do the chicens this afternoon I glanced sown at the rat trap under the bird feeder and there was a klittle bird in it. A Dunnock so I picked it up to release it and there were two in there but one was trapped by its toe which was stuck in the wire join. I thought it was dead but when I put my hand in the trap it fluttered. I could'nt release its little tor so went to the window of oh's study but he was'nt in there, he was having forty winks. So there was I with my hand holding the little Dunnock in the trap trying to get the workshop door open to find a nail to prise the wire apart. I managed it and got it out. It had a bald face with blood on it just above its beak, poor chap. I put it on the bird table out of the wind and put a pot of water by it. When I looked at it it had its head under its wing having a sleep. I have no idea how long they had been in there. The first one flew away past my shed so that one was alright. I was wondering if they were a pair and they kept each other warm if they had been in there all night. Anyway I put it in a box in my shed so it will be warm in there tonight. I only put one bit of the box lid down so it made it dark as when I put melaworms and water in there it flew up and onto the window ledge trying to get out through the glass. Oh said he would look in there early tomorrow morning to see how it is or if it died in the night. He expects it to be dead. I hope its ok as they are funny little birds and always make me laugh with their mating habits. They also lay beautiful turquoise eggs.

Been doing a bit of craft this afternoon but when I got to the end of the thing I was doing I got a knot which took ages to get undone.

Gillx Report 13 Mar 2018 08:53

Morning all

Another rainy day here today. OH is going to go up in the loft later to see if we have any rain on the plastic he put down, if there is then he'll need to soak it up with a sponge and get rid of it. The fella for the roof isn't coming to take a look until 5pm tomorrow and we've had so much rain these past two days, the last thing we want is more water on the ceiling's.

OH won't have his results of his scan for about two weeks, he was told the doctor would write to him, so it's just a waiting game at the moment. He's off to the Asthma clinic today, then he starts his Physio in a month's time. I'm going to make sure he put's his mask on today when he goes into the loft. He can be quite stubborn sometimes, but like I said it's his health he's ruining no one else's. With a bit of luck he'll listen today and put the mask on.

I hope the little bird made it through the night Mel. At least the other one was okay so that's good. It sounds like you had a bit of a struggle on your own trying to get the bird out of the trap.

That was a nice surprise off Richard Anne, I like Orchid's and Sandra loves the colour pink ;-) I laughed when you said Amy used to sit on her bottom so the Vet couldn't take her temperature, she wasn't daft was she? Shame Ruby doesn't like the Vet's though.

I'm pleased Cas is okay with the Vet Liz, there's nothing worse than seeing an animal in distress. Pleased she had a clean bill of health. It sounds like a bargain for her injections.

So more cheap chocolate from the Chocolate Factory Shop Mandy. Sandra would love to live near you, she loves her chocolate. Mind you what woman doesn't LOL.

It sounds like you had a great time with Hannah Jane. Pleased to see your journey there and back was a good one. How is the weather by you, you said you had a yellow warning? Hope it's not as bad as us, our garden is like a lake. That's a funny name for a Cave, I wonder how the name came about :-S

How is your knee today Frank? Hope it feel a little better today and it didn't keep you awake last night.

It looks like the rain has stopped for now and the sun is out. It's been terrible wet weather here for the last two days, let's hope it stays sunny now.

Good morning gill and all,

Yet another bad night. I sat and rad my book through Marcella and prt of DCI BANKS. My eyes were closing so went to bed. Sill awake at 12.30 am so got up and watched T,V until 3.00 am. When I got back to bed I thought I herd the Television, so got up to check. All o.k. It was Ros grumbling in her sleep , which went on for ages. I didn't like to nudge her, as she seemed in such a deep sleep.

I slept until 8.00 am when the phone rang. It was Simon. He said I thought you got up early. I said it is !!! He and Sally have been ro Cardiff all weekend visiting friends. He managed to get tickets for the RUGY, so was well pleased. They left there at 5.00 am yesterday, to get home for work, Better them than me.

Knee still giving me a bit if GIP Gill, but I am trying to ignore it, where I can.

Nice bright start to the day, but clouds are beginning to come over, so I expect it will be dull and dreary again today.

I hope it doesn't stop you doing whatever today. see you all later.
I see that EX Liverpool player is in trouble. He should be SACKED and the family should sue him. What a disgusting man. !!!

Morning all,

We have sunshine and its really quite Spring like out there today.

I am sorry to say that the little Dunnock did'nt make it through the night. Oh said it was dead in the box this morning when he looked. I thought that may be the case but at least it had a warm night in the shed.

Donkey Day again today and I have to go up to Lidl to take back a pair of clogs I bought for oh as they did'nt fit him. He has such fat feet!!!!!!!!!!!!!! no he has a high instep like myself and the opening was'nt wide enough to get his foot into them. They would have been good for the garden too.

MANDY Walnut Whips at that price you should have got some for me and I would have paid you plus postage. I hav'nt had one since the last ones you sent me. You lucky girl........... :-|

Gillx

Gillx Report 13 Mar 2018 12:08

The sun is still out and it's quite warm out there now. The lake in the garden is subsiding slowly, so that's good. Sorry to hear your knee is still playing you up Frank. Can you take some anti-inflammatory's, would that help? If it does you might have a better nights sleep tonight. Hope you don't have the rain we've had recently.

OH went into the loft, (with a mask on) and said there wasn't any water on the plastic, so he think's with it being so cold up there some icicles might have formed and then when they thawed out the dripping might of caused the few dark marks on the ceiling. I hope that's the case and we don't need any work doing on the roof. We did have quite a lot of icicles around outside, so I suppose it's possible to have them in the loft too if it was cold enough. Once the fella has had a look at it tomorrow OH is going to put some sealant paint over all the marks and re-paint the ceiling.

So the poor little bird didn't make it then Mel....that's a shame. I hope it didn't suffer to much. Maybe it was the shock, at least it had a comfy place in your shed. Could you not buy a bigger size clog for your OH to wear if they are good for the garden?

OH and I have decided to re-do our front garden when the weather stays nice. It looks a right mess at the moment with over grown plants and a broken fence, not to mention the hedge which seems to want to grow out towards the public path rather than straight up. Mind you that way is south facing so it's just growing towards the sun I suppose. We also need a new side gate and a fence between us and Victor Meldrew, at least he'll be pleased with the fence and I doubt he'll offer to go halves on it, the grumpy old so and so.
Hopefully when it's all finished it'll look a lot tidier and be easier to maintain.

We need to do the kitchen first and see what's happening with the roof so we can put everything back up there. I was going to go through everything in the loft at some point and have a good sort out, so at least that job's out of the way now, even if we hadn't planned on doing it so soon. We had quite a lot of things we no longer needed or wanted so that's all gone now and we're just left with the things we want. The living room is almost finished I just need one more picture and I'd like some new curtains with a bit of colour in them as the ones I have now are plain and the same colour as the walls. Then it's just the floorcovering when we decided what we'd like, but that can wait until all the dust has gone with the other jobs.

Afternoon All

Its almost evening now and still so light. Well I think Chris must heard wrong about the Yellow warning last night. It must have been for somwhere else. It did rain but not that much. Dry day today with lots of sun and washing out on the line !!!

That was a shame the little Dunnock didnt make it Mel.At least you found it though and gave it a bit of comfort. It doesnt really take much for these tiny birds to die when something happens to them.
Thomas brought me a dead bunny :-S. I saw him coming up the garden with it so went out to try and stop him coming up to the patio. But I think he thought I was calling him and he came running with it !!!!!!!. Dropped it bedside me too !!!!. I picked Thomas up and called for Chris to quickly come and get rid of the rabbit. So I carried Thomas in and just had his cat milk and went straight out again sniffing all around the patio LOL
I think he has gone off to find more now :-S :-S

Frank if Chris starts mumbling or snoring I just do a gentle poke or say TURN OVER.That usually does the trick. He hasnt mentioned my snoring lately so maybe I dont do it any more :-D.I think I do though as I wake myself up sometimes :-D

Gill it sounds as though you may not actually have any leaks then from the roof. That will be just great if it is just melting snow/icicles . Fingers crossed for tomorrow and that the chap finds nothing wrong up in the roof. It does make me smile when I hear you say you and OH will be tackling yet another job LOL The front garden now :-D
:-D and you havent finished inside yet :-D :-D.

My oven is pinging..So that means my Rotisserie Chicken in a bag is cooked. I better take it out and get the potatoes in.

I am off to the cinema in the morning with Fitz and I still can't remember what film it is !!!!.

MillymollyAmanda Report 13 Mar 2018 18:58

Evening all,

We've had a nice dry day , i hung the washing out and got most of it dry ,it was just the cleaning cloths that were damp when i got the washing in but i had washed them by hand and as there were only a few i didn't bother to put the in the machine .

Oh dear Mel poor little bird but at least he died in the warmth and quiet of the shed, i suppose they go into shock .
Mel i don't know what the postage would be on all those Walnut whips they weight a ton LOL by the time postage was paid it would be cheaper to go and buy some in the shops LOL

Gill that's good there's no more water in the loft ,it does sound as if it was the condensation with the weather being so cold or that the snow had got in ,fingers crossed the chap thinks the same so you don't have to spend money on it , Colin has seen lots of lofts where the condensation has been bad because of the lagging being topped up so there's not so much heat going through the ceilings into the loft ,the answer is vents in the roof to let air in .

We are hoping to go and see Colin's sister in hospital on Thursday she has rallied round again bless her .
That's twice now she been so poorly and they didn't think she would make it , we wouldn't go in before because of having the flu and then the tummy bug we wanted to make sure we didn't take anything in to her .

They are building more flats and bungalows at the old peoples place near us and the amount of vans that park on the road is terrible , yesterday there was one van parked right at the end of the road and right on a slight bend it was a heck of a job to see what was coming down the road .
We park on the road so today when we went out and as the wheelie bin goes out for tomorrow we thought we would stand the bin where we park the car, that didn't work when we came home some one had moved it onto the path and parked there.

Gillx

Gillx Report 13 Mar 2018 19:28

Yes, I think it might be condensation in the loft Mandy. How do you put vents up there. We have slate tiles, would some of them have to come out to accommodate the vents? How cheeky of the person to move your wheelie bin and park in your space. I hope you managed to park near your house when you came home.

We're not doing the front garden for a while Jane as the weather isn't good enough, so hopefully all the jobs inside will be finished by then. So Thomas gave you a present of a bunny.......that's was nice of him.....not LOL ;-) Pleased to hear you didn't have bad weather and the yellow warning wasn't in your area.
