Wind here too Mandy! (not us) but we have a gap in the window frame and the brickwork in the back porch. It sounds just like a cow mooing .I'm just going to try and block it with a bit of bubble wrap :-S :-S.It is a really spooky sound.

Are you getting Paper Chains for the Grandchildren to do for Xmas? I still think of the taste of the awful glue :-S :-S

Fiona Report 26 Nov 2011 16:58

Evening All
Been busy all day helping OH in the kitchen taking out cupboards to make room for fridge and freezer, at the moment our fridge & freezer are in the old porch.
The builders who are going to build our new side porch are coming on the 5th December to remove the old rotten wood porch It was built in 1979 by the folks who lived here before us.
The builders origanally were going to start in October as we planned to have the porch for christmas. but the design had to be changed a few times so work has been delayed.
The builders are going to take the old one down and do the foundations before christmas then will come back after christmas and get on with building the new porch, (weather depending of course,) now I have to find some where to put all the dishes that came out of the old cupboards,
we are keeping the cupboards in the garage so we can put them back , till we managed to get a new fitted kitchen next year.

Hi Everyone,

Well, what cute little puppies Kim.......irresistible!! What a shame about that poor boy though and only 18 as you say. As Shirl says, things can happen in the bat of an eyelid. Tragic for his family......their christmas won't be a happy one.

Yes, I bet Pat has her scarf on today! It has been a cold breeze here, but quite sunny.

That shop sounds very handy for you Liz. Glad Millie is introducing you to lots of people!! lol :-D

Shirl I have a frog in my throat today and have to keep clearing it..........so I would have to be a little Husky!! Sorry.......couldn't resist! :-D

Well, it was a strange place where the craft fair and garden centre was that I went to today. Little wooden buildings here and there with different things in. There is a golf place and that had ladies fashions and handbags in it!! There were all sorts of things, a room with all doll's house stuff too. In the antiques bit there were lots of Crown Derby animals, but none like my little frog in the loft. I was tempted to get one of the tiny white horses I saw like those I had a few of in the 70s.....in the loft too now! lol I found a haberdashery stall with ribbons, cords, beads and buttons so I bought a few things there. They had some 40s glass buttons that were very pretty. I was looking closely at how the bead necklaces were made!! lol

I had my other results from the hospital today. Cholesterol is a bit high at 5.4, but it was 5.6 last time and they said the 'good' cholesterol was high. Also I don't have diabetes which is good to know.........but my metabolic age was scary!!

I opened the paper tonight and there was one of my photos!! I entered a competition titled 'Colour' and sent in a pic of a pretty autumn leaf I took ages ago. The ones they print don't usually win though, so I shan't hold my breath! :-S

It was at Breedon on the Hill where I saw the craft Fair Mandy. It is about 3 miles from East Midlands Airport. The little building dates from the 1700s and is a 'lock up' where they held drunks etc before they were moved elsewhere. I just googled the church, St Marys and St Hardulph........Hardulph was supposed to be a hermit who lived on the hill!!

I Gooled it too Ann, made interesting reading, you made a good little find there, worth having a look inside i think.
Just watching the dancing now and having a mince pie !!

Annx Report 26 Nov 2011 19:49

We still enjoy all those programmes too. I'd forgotten the name of the In Loving Memory one. Thora hurd was brilliant wasn't she. I still think it is a shame they didn't do more series of Last of the Summer Wine as the new characters fitted in really well. It was always glorious sunshine wasn't it.

Mandy, I love the smell of christmas cake cooking!! Did you scrape the bowl?

Sheila, there was a cellar like that ran all under mum's old house. I hated going down there on the narrow stairs.......always thought I'd get locked in like in the films. She had it all plastered out and painted, but it was still spooky and never got used. There was a large metal grid with frosted glass pieces under the bay window at the front and that let a tiny bit of light in. I wouldn't even walk on that and imagined it giving way and me falling in!!

Ann, I just showed the pic to Chris and asked him if he thought it was used for prisoners or reprobates .He said No !!!! ........Yeah I was right :-D :-D

Posted again at 8 pm Just pressed SUBMIT and lost the B LOT.

As I was saying before being intrerupted. THERE'S A LOT OF WIND AROUND THIS EVENING. What have you all been eating.???

It appears when I use the emoticons: and put to many , when I "BACKSPACE" I loose my posting. So will leave that alone.

Ros and the girls took almost £200.00 in two hours this afternoon I think she sold 7 scarves

The new Scout hut is very large, but only has six small electric wall heaters.I can't see those being enough to keep it warm.

One of the older sewing women passed away this afternoon at 2 pm. in Hospital, just as they were opening the scout hut. How strange !!

Come on now WHEN HAS A WOMAN EVER BEEN RIGHT. I have changed my Email address and telephone no. !! LOL LOL

Gosh still got another hour to go before JUNGLE. Will have to go on Ebay and spend more money.

Just thought of paper chains. Mum would buy packs of coloured paper in strips, and we would make flour and water paste, and make our own. Never had any bells or things, they weren't around.

Our main game at Christmas was Lowering the cloths horse in the kitchen, to a level we could reach with our heads. Tie apples by their stalks to a bit of string, then tiw to the rails on the cloth horse, you had to keep your hands behind your back and bite the apple. Not easy, you should try it !!!

just popped into say goodnight going for a bath then of to bed really quite tired tonight after been busy all day,

Well done to Ros selling her scarfs, I bet she's proud of herself doing such a good job, and sad news about the sewing lady who passed away, it's a shame she never got to hear how well everything went today and the amount of money that was raised,

Frank, we did something very simlar to your apple game when I was a little girl in my nana's house here in Scotland but we did it at Halloweeen, we fastened the apples to the rails they called it a pully, a clothes horse or maiden as it's called in Lancashire stood up straight on the floor, and you hung your clothes over the bars.

I'm going for my bath now

night night
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx :-D :-D

Frank Report 26 Nov 2011 21:34

Exactly right, Fiona. We had a little Ideal Domestic boiler in the corner of the kitchen Coke fueled. stunk the place out with the fumes from the coke, but gave out a lot of heat, to dry the cloths. plenty of dust as well.

The old lady that died, use to do a bit of Tapestry, Ros said she was in her 90s. but would always come to the Tapestry classs's when she could.

Almost time for JUNGLE>#

See you in the morning.

Frank sorry to hear about the sewing lady. Good that Ros took another £200. You were talking about the apples on strings. We used to do that at parties when I was young. My friend across the road , her dad made a wooden frame with the apples hanging on strings and one of the children lost a tooth doing it. Blood all over the apple and he had to retreive his tooth to put under his pillow that night.

Showed my eletric ciggy to the lady in the shop up the road today. She immediately said her hubby wanted one ofo those for when he goes on a plane. I let him have a couple of puffs to try it and gave him the name of the website.

Did the avent ring today and then realized that it is not really needed till next week!! Never mind it is done and in the church ready for the next service the week after. I have kept the candles here though as they are expensive and I did'nt buy them. I don't want them knocked over and broken before the time to light them.

Liz good that you are settleing in ok and making new friends in the shop. Give Merlin and Millie a big kiss for me please? <3

Mandy I was going to do my cake today but forgot to boil it up last night. May do it now and then I can cook it tomorrow. No doubt oh will want loads of mince pies as usual...............bless.

Ann that little building could be a well or the local jail where people would be locked up over night as a punishment.

What village was it in?

Annx

Annx Report 26 Nov 2011 22:04

That was a shame about the lady Frank, she did well sewing to that age. Ros did well with more scarves again. The whole village will have one soon! They did well getting £200 too. What are they looking to get for the hut next?

Mince pies Mel.........if your OH is like mine he polishes them off like horses do sugar lumps.....don't last 5 minutes! I suppose I will have to dust down my tins soon. You seem to be doing really well with your new ciggie.......keep up the good work.

I found a sad thing on OH's tree today. Parents who had 14 children, but 9 died before the age of 2!! There may have been a couple more as I can't find anything on those yet other than a birth. None died at the same time so I don't think it was an epidemic that caused it, but perhaps they were premature or it was something genetic. Imagine all those funerals, burying those little babies, one a year!!! I am now going to trace descendants of the 3 that I know lived to see if their children survived ok and see if I can find anything like it in the wife's family.

That's just what the little building was Mel........you may not have seen my second EM yet with the plaque.
